He had a job to do. She had a home and livelihood to save. Could they even survive? Welcome to Highland County. Where we take our heroes seriously. James is a wild land firefighter tasked with getting one stubborn woman out of the path of the blaze. But when she refuses what can he do? He hates to see her arrested but if it’s the only way to save her life, he’ll do it. He’s trying to save not … trying to save not just her place but the entire town. Can he manage it?
Allison wasn’t about to leave the animals she’d come to see almost as pets behind to die. She wasn’t entirely stupid, she’d done everything she could to protect her little farm but with no way, nor time, to get the animals out, she was willing to die with them if that’s what it took. But that stubborn firefighter just wouldn’t leave her alone.
When the flames get even closer, sparks fly in more than one sense of the phrase. Can they make things work or was it just the heat of the moment?

Highland County Heroes, Book 3
By: Melissa Stevens
Narrated by: Bump Turgeson
Highland County Heroes is sucking me in and making me fall for every hero I meet! This one features James, a wildland firefighter. Things are getting out of hand now and he is helping evacuate people. But he meets his match in Allison who has no intention of leaving her farm. It’s not your typical farm, and Allison has every angle taken care of to protect her livestock. James won’t take no for an answer, but finds out there is no pulling this lady from her home. It’s so easy to feel the emotions in this story. Allison is a tough cookie and I loved her spirit. She has such great qualities and is just so independent. Give her a man like James that shows his frustration, but respects her and you can’t help but fall for this couple. But in the end, will she be safe? Should she have evacuated? Will James be able to save her? So many questions, but it’s a great listen leaving me with a warm heart.
Bump Turgeson continues his narration of this series and is creating the community with his voice. I enjoyed his performance.

I liked this story a lot. It actually had me on pins and needles waiting to figure out what would happen with the fire. I completely understand Allison’s reasons. She seemed to have it all under control. James made a comment that had me wondering. He said that he hopes she doesn’t freak out and run out into the fire. I thought about that comment for a while. I could see the panic set in and out the door she runs to get away from the fire. Anyway. This is more than just the fire and these two taking time to see if they have a relationship.
I listened to this on audio. Bump Turgeson was smoking hot as usual. Ha ha! See the fire reference there?
This book was gripping, well written & the chemistry between the characters, James & Allison, sizzled throughout this wonderful read.
Well done Melissa. I look forward to more!
I really enjoyed this fast paced story! It’s a fairly quick read but definitely keeps you flipping pages to see what happens next. Love the characters in this intriguing story. James and Ally are great together with fantastic chemistry. This is a fun and somewhat entertaining story with a little danger.
Ally owns a sheep and goat farm which is being threatened by a spreading wildfire.
James is the wildfire fighter who has been tasked to get her to evacuate but she refuses to leave her animals .
Doesn’t matters what he says ,if she is going to die,so be it. No other options for her.
James wants to leave her to fight in other area but as the blaze worsens he returns back to Ally’s farm .
They are cut off from safety and he ends up staying the night.
A connection and chemistry between them are strong. Both are stubborn, too.
Enjoyable romance

There’s a fire burning wildly and fire fighters have been sent out to get the people that refused the first round of evacuations. Ally wouldn’t leave her little ranch and her animals instead she had a plan in place to save her barn, the animals and herself. James is sent to try and convince her to leave with him but he knows after talking for five minutes its not going to happen but promises to have someone if he can’t come back to check on her. James gets caught up in helping others and by the time he gets backs its be a few days. He catches some sleep and then goes to Ally’s place to look in on her what neither counted on was for the wind to change while he was there. James and Ally get the animals in a hold up in the barn as the fire breaks out around them. Will Ally’s plan work or will she lose her ranch? Will James find that Ally is what he wants in his life?
This is a great story that will have you on the edge of your seat while you read to see what will happen next. The chemistry between them is scorching hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Great story. Ally and James meet when he’s sent to get her off her property because a fire is in range. Ally won’t leave her animals that have become more like pets and she’s done all she can to protect them. She refuses to leave. James is a firefighter and hates to admit defeat but he’s needed elsewhere. The fire is headed in another direction so the urgency to get her to safety is delayed. But James can’t get her out of his mind. She’s young, beautiful, smart and stubborn. I liked both characters. The story had a nice buildup with nature proving to be the enemy but the spark that matters to them is the one between them. I always enjoy this authors books. They are fast and easy reads with well developed and likable character set in place where they can help each other. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

This was a good read. I cannot say that it was my favorite by this author but our hero was perfect. I did enjoy that characters, but the story was a little discombobulated at times.

Ally owns a small farm where she breeds sheep and goats, not for their meat but for what they can produce. From this she makes cheese, soap, and spins and dyes the wool. James is a wildfire jumper and puts his life on the line at every job. When a wildfire is raging in the area where Ally’s farm is, he is sent to get her to evacuate. But she refuses as she won’t leave her animals. When James goes out to try again he gets caught and can’t get back. He and Ally have to prepare for the worst. This was a wonderful story and I loved it.

This is the third book in the Highland County Heroes series, I noticed that the second and soon to be released fourth book in the series is by another author. At least that explains why I lost book two. In this book we meet Allison that is a sheep and goat farmer, there is a wild fire that is continuously is getting closer and closer to her ranch. She has taken as many measures as she could to put as much as she can between this fire and her ranch but it may not be enough. James is a travelling firefighter and he is tasked to convince Allison to leave the ranch. This is an impossible task as she will not leave her animals to die. James starts checking on her regularly and is impressed with her measures. There is bond that forms between these two characters, especially after they find themselves trapped by the fire. This was a really good, quick read.
