Great
Starting over. Declan & Kaitlyn meet in a Detroit airport. She is dealing with a cheating husband, a join she needs to like and a ruin ski jumping career because of an injury. He is doing promotions and doing a final tour with his partner in ice skating.
Great for the romantic.
I immensely enjoyed the story of Kaitlin Reynolds and Declan McLoughlin, two world class athletes, she in ski jump and he, pairs skating. More than 2 years ago, as Kaitlin readied herself for the Sochi Olympics, an accident on the course caused an injury so severe that she lost the usage of much of her leg and was forced to retire. The depression that overtook her soured her spirit and her outlook on life. Declan McLoughlin and his partner, Natalya, exceeded expectations, winning the bronze medal in pairs. In the airport, Declan and Kaitlin literally run into each other and he catches her before she can do a face plant. Quite the meet cute! They continue to run into each other, strike up a conversation and their flight to LaGuardia is cancelled, forcing them to spend the night. Declan really wants to know this enigmatic, beautiful lady and find out what is causing the distress on her face. Kaitlin sees that he is uncomfortable being seen by the public and finally understands why when she opens her People magazine. This is one of the most romantic and intensely personal stories I’ve read in a long time and it’s made even more so by having the dual POV, giving the reader the ability to see the same situation as the individual character sees it. Kaitlin’s self-doubt and inability to believe that Declan would want anything to do with her made me sad, but it’s understandable through her eyes. The texts and phone calls keep their relationship honest and they both make an effort to remain friends, all the while hoping for more. When Declan is at a crossroads for his future, there are too many assumptions that keep them from finding their HEA. My only complaint is that I felt the ending was a little rushed and I wanted some of the loose ends to be tied up. I wanted more information on Nat’s prognosis and to see that Kaitlin’s physical therapist got what was coming to her. An extended epilogue to see a few months or years into the future for Declan and Kaitlin would make it ideal! The narration is beautifully done by Lisa Beacom and I’ll be looking for more of her audiobooks.
Fun to read and uplifting to someone with an injury that might think romance can’t be in their future.
Having been a skier, (instructor for 15 years) I know the feeling of devistation of being kicked out because of injury. I loved this story!
DNF
Fun premise. Likeable characters.
Liked the leading man and the leading lady but her relationship issues were a bit much to overcome. I did enjoy he sarcasm.
Fun to read
Nothing special.
Good storyline. However, the book was written from each of the characters views. Very repitious. Book could have been shorter and more straight forward. Almost boring with all the repetition.
Main character needs a major personality change and you see this happening when she meets a guy who is living her dream. A dream that will never come true and she has to face that fact. I like how the author goes back and forth between the 2 characters so you can see each perspective. It was an enjoyable book which i finished in a day.
Lovely story about life and the twists it can take. Although sometimes I wished the story moved faster, really appreciated the insight into feeling and different ways of dealing with them.
Boring
I liked the formate in which it was written where it was written so you got the thoughts and point of view of each character.
I’m not really sure how to rate this one. On one hand, it’s a great story of a former Olympic bound athlete whose dreams have been shattered, who is now hanging in limbo fighting depression and anger. On the other hand, the story felt like there were gaps and holes that weren’t filled in. You either have to struggle to figure out how the story jumped or you just let it be and move on to where the author jumped to.
Kaitlin has struggled with losing her dreams for two years. She’s bitter. She’s angry at the world. She’s floating through life alienating everyone who even tries to help her. She’s become an island as both a coping mechanism and because she really doesn’t know who to trust. Her life is in shambles, the people she should be able to count on are the ones she most definitely can’t rely on. She’ll never “fly” again, never experience that high and adrenaline rush, never realize competing in the Olympics that she fought so hard to get a to.
Declan has just won the Bronze at the 2014 Sochi Olympics in figure skating. He’s at a crossroads in his life. Does he retire while he’s on top or go into another aspect of figure skating? Can his body even handle staying on the ice and performing? He’s ready to quit. He’s ready for his Plan B. The problem? His partner isn’t ready. He hates her, but he still cares for her deeply. She can’t continue without him. She manipulates him and he hates it but can’t seem to stop it, either. He’s home now and is about to embark on his farewell tour. Forty-five more days and he’s free.
Declan literally runs into Kaitlin at Detroit airport and that’s when all the plans, or lack of plans, that each of them have begin to fall apart. It’s sort of a love/hate relationship. They’re good for one another. Well, Declan is good for Kaitlin. Declan’s already got it pretty much all together, calls Kaitlin on her pity parties and won’t let her wallow for too long. But could there be more? There’s always Natalya getting in the way, manipulating Declan, and twisting him up, around, and inside out. There are other things keeping Declan and Kaitlin apart, too.
This one is typical chick lit. It’s angsty, funny, many-layered, and “aww” inducing. The writing sometimes jumps from one place to another with no transition. It’s not particularly difficult to go with it, but it can be annoying. The ending was too abrupt for me. There didn’t seem to be a resolution in proportion to all the drama that preceded it. It’s entertaining and holds your interest, though!
Bumping into a stranger can lead to almost anything and jumping to conclusions may lead you down an unexpected path. This story is about two people who are ready to change their lives but approaching the intersection from different perspectives. Their journey is filled with very human thoughts and actions.
Fun read!
One of the best love stories I have read. I
Liked the fact that people can become that envolved so deeply so fast. It was a truly beatiful story.
