They say success is the best revenge. I say it isn’t enough. I’ve spent the last twenty years building my empire, but I’ll never forget the gutters I had to crawl through to get here. Or the enemy who made it that way. Kevin Cryson, the man who destroyed my life. It isn’t enough to build my own empire if I can’t crush his. Luckily, I’ve found his weak spot. The perfect lure in the form of a … own empire if I can’t crush his.
Luckily, I’ve found his weak spot. The perfect lure in the form of a brown-eyed devil with chestnut hair and a deviant smile. The princess he never should’ve let leave the castle.
They say revenge makes people bitter.
I’ve never tasted anything so sweet.
**Julius is complete story with a guaranteed HEA and NO cliffhanger. It is set in the same world as the interconnected standalone series Darker Places, but the series is not necessary to read in order to enjoy Julius. This book is a dark romance, and thus contains dark subject matter. Reader discretion is advised.**

REVIEW OF STORY:
Julius has been planning his revenge for years. When he finally hires a man to kidnap the daughter of his victim, he’s given the wrong woman, causing Julius to completely revamp his plans. Not only is Julius forced to reconstruct his lifelong revenge plans, but of course, feelings develop between him and his captor, Laney.
Laney herself is an innovative character. Having grown up on the property of a women’s shelter in Italy, Julius exposes her to a life she doesn’t remember living. He also brings her sexual fantasies to life.
JULIUS is so so so much more than your typical abduction story!!!! Years of deception and corruption result in abuse and neglect for Julius and feelings of betrayal for Laney. When they join forces, nothing goes as predicted + their romance is off the charts hot!!! This is one of the most innovative books I’ve read in a long time! I was glued to the pages, often surprised and consistently entertained!!!
The only negative about this book is that there were gaps in the storyline, and it contained a lot of errors. For details on those issues, continue reading below! Otherwise, this is where my review ends!!!
REVIEW OF PROOFREADING:
To start with, there were typos such as always using the word MIGHT when it should’ve been MAY, ONTO instead of ON TO, ABANDON when it should’ve been ABANDONED, INTO although it should’ve been IN TO, INFLAMES for FLAMES, ON instead of IN, IN instead of ON, WENT when it should’ve been GONE, and FURTHER when it should have been FARTHER.
Brand names weren’t always capitalized, and according to the CMOS, ellipses we’re not documented correctly. When in the middle of a sentence, ellipses should have spaces on BOTH sides. However, in this book, ellipses were followed by a space on the right side only (for example, “that… not”).
The most common mistakes were regarding COMMAS:
-The FANBOYS rule was followed quite often, but not all of the time.
-Commas were not always placed before pronouns (for example, “You aren’t a good actress Laney”).
-Introductory words and phrases were not always followed by commas.
-Rules for commas and the word OH we’re not followed (for example, “Oh my God” should have been, “Oh, my God”).
-OF COURSE was not always surrounded by commas when in the middle of a sentence.
-TOO was occasionally surrounded by commas when it was in the middle of the sentence and could be replaced by the word.
-TOO was occasionally preceded by a comma when it was The last word in a sentence, yet sometimes it was not. Either way is correct as long as it is consistent throughout the manuscript.
-THOUGH was occasionally surrounded by commas when it was in the middle of the sentence and could be replaced by the word.
-THOUGH was occasionally preceded by a comma when it was The last word in a sentence, yet sometimes it was not. Either way is correct as long as it is consistent throughout the manuscript.
-When EITHER was the last word in a sentence, it was occasionally preceded by a comma, sometimes not. Either way is correct as long as you’re consistent throughout the manuscript which was not the case here.
REVIEW OF EDITING:
Unfortunately, there were quite a few inconsistencies and gaps in the storyline. For example, we are specifically told, “…there isn’t a mirror in the room”, yet literally five paragraphs later it says, “I bring the mirror down from my face and look at him.” Also, one of the characters is cut, then less than 10 minutes later we are told that he has, “fresh stitches” even though the character never got any stitches. Same with when they go to the kitchen to eat beans yet make pancakes…
***Fortunately, all of these are things most readers won’t even notice, are super easy to fix (I’d love to work with you, Nicole) and didn’t diminish how how much I enjoy this fabulous story!!!!
This is the story of Julius and Laney. Julius is a millionaire with a troubled pass. Laney was trying to save her cousin and ended up being the one taken. Their chemistry is off the charts at times. He hurts her then feels so bad and takes care of her. Things get really heated between the 2.

Julius has spent 20 years planning the ultimate revenge. What happens when he kidnaps the wrong woman? Laney is tough and resourceful. She’ll need all her instincts to survive and figure out what drives Julius. For the both of them it’s a thin line between lust and hatred. An entertaining, suspenseful, dark romance with an intricate plot and multilayered characters!

Revenge can be a great motivator that drives you forward but what happens when it turns its head back to bite you? Julius and Laney are two very strong, independent individuals that are drawn to one another. This is one crazy, hot story with some great twists and a little darkness along the way. I found myself glued to my device and constantly reading, just one more page. Great read, enjoy!

This is a dark but intense book full of many twist and turns with plenty of drama that unfolds slowly at first but than it picks up. Julius is out for revenge and has one of his man to kidnap his enemies daughter. Lanie is kidnapped by mistake. The characters are well developed and engaging with plenty of chemistry. The storyline flowed slowly at the beginning but does pickup giving us. Great time.

I just couldn’t put this book down! It is that amazing! Julius is a self-made millionaire who lives for revenge against a family that has wronged him terribly. He has tracked down the family who lives under a different last name and who operates The Miller House, a place in Italy, that protects women who are addicts wanting to get clean, or hides women who have escaped from an abusive past. He has targeted their one weak link, the daughter of Kevin Miller.
He hires a man to kidnap Emma and smuggle her into New York, but the kidnapper never expects to meet Laney, Emma’s cousin and best friend, who fights him like a wildcat so that Emma can escape. He ends up taking Laney to Julius instead and expects to still be compensated in full for delivering a girl who is still a family member.
Julius locks Laney into a basement room and ignores her, except to give her 3 cans of beans and 3 bottles of water every day, as he works out the details to sell her back to her family.
As they spend more time together, they realize they are drawn to one another and then…….you just have to read it!
This book is action-packed, heartbreaking, dangerous, and dark. I couldn’t get enough! This is the first book I’ve read by the author but you bet it won’t be the last! Lawd!

This is my first book by this author and though it’s part of the Darker Places series it can be read as a stand alone. I love a good dark romance and the whole kidnap and revenge twist was a great added bonus. For me with dark romance, it’s the darker the better…give me the super twisted, I’ll gladly take it. While this story did promise us dark, sadly for me, it just wasn’t there and didn’t work for me. It was an okay read but unfortunately not a favorite for me. I’m sure there will be others who will love it.
This is a bit of dark read that has some
parts that might trigger some unwanted emotions.
I found it was an absolutely page turner.

Julius by Nicole Cypher is the story of Laney and Julius.
Julius is a dark man set on revenge toward Kevin Cryson. Thinking he finally has his chance by hiring someone to kidnap Mr. Cryson’s daughter and using her to bring the man down. But they made a mistake in who they kidnapped now Julius has Laney. Although she is who he wanted she still might be a way to get his revenge. But Laney brings something out in him that he can’t seem to stop.
*** Spoilers***
I really liked the flow of this book, but I wasn’t expecting it to be what it was. I am not a huge fan of stories where the kidnappee falls for her kidnapper. I know that there was more to this story, but he essentially tortured her and then they fell in love. I did like that there was a happy ending, but it still wasn’t my favorite type of story.

This was an amazing story. The characters, the plot, the angst oh my heart you have to read this book! My words cannot do this story justice I was completely amazed at the emotions pulled out of me. And when they finally kissed I was done for well done Nicole Cypher.

Julius is on a mission of revenge, and Laney is out with her bestie and ends up getting kidnapped. No spoilers: this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed. This is a well written flawless story which is a dark read and filled with intrigue, suspense, violence, action, twists, secrets, betrayal, redemption, and is a thrilling all-consuming read, which had me totally intrigued and enthralled throughout. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend for all.
This is a great twisted and in-depth story that captured my interest from the beginning. It is a darker story than I was expecting which was a welcomed surprise. The author gave me just the right amount of information so I wasn’t overwhelmed while keeping me interested in the building storyline. I felt on edge for most of the story so it definitely wasn’t a relaxing read.
The dual POV helped me connect to these complex and detailed characters who had amazing chemistry and just the right amount of steam. Julius is an interesting character. I wasn’t sure if I liked him or not but there was something about him that pulled me in. He comes across hard and uncaring in the beginning although as I got deeper into his story and learned more about him my feelings changed. His story is sad and it’s been eating at him his whole life. I was thankful that they helped him find a healthier solution so he could move forward.
Laney is great! She‘s strong and determined and I found myself giving her many virtual high fives. She’s definitely was not going to make it easy on Julius, their back and forth was fun to read. He’s also good at predicting her movements or intentions. So it’s always a win when she catches him off guard. I enjoyed her thoughts as she processed the information as well as her feelings about her current and future outcome.
This is a spinoff to the Darker Places series. I’m definitely interested in going back to read that series and meeting a younger Julius while digging deeper into his family’s past.
It was slow starting for me then the story enfolds & uu fond yourself wondering whose who…. You could read this as a standalone, but the writer gives you juuuuuust enough info to want to go look her up and find out if this story is connected to a series in some way….. I’ll be darn…. yes it is!! This is an enemies becomes lovers story with kink….. the link may not be my thing but the back story is!! Recommended! HAPPY READING!!

I read the original series and sometimes with spin offs they aren’t as great as the beginning. Not true with third book. It was exciting and kept me questioning what would happen next.

This is an interesting story with strong characters in Julius and Laney. It’s a story of revenge that had me on the edge , turning the pages as fast as I could and kept me glued to the pages from start to finish. The author does a fantastic job developing their relationship and pulls you in with the dark and twisted story line. It’s well written, moves fluidly and is an entertaining and thrilling read. Highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
This is part of a series, however can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the other books in this series, but have read this author before.
This was a enjoyable dark book about revenge. It was engaging with a great storyline where all is not as it seems, with twists and suspense and some romance in it.
Dark and Delicious!
This story is phenomenal! It’s dark, twisted, slightly depraved and utterly delicious. It will keep you on the edge of your seat, completely captivated and enthralled with the characters. There are so many secrets that slowly get revealed throughout the story it might have your head spinning and your jaw dropping. I was in shock at some of the twists that were thrown in! It’s an amazing, wild roller-coaster ride of action, suspense and so much intrigue from beginning to end!
Julius is a very dark and angry man. He is hell bent on revenge and will do anything to get it. But then in comes Laney, who turns his world upside down. Laney is one smart, witty, strong and very fierce woman. She knows just how to get Julius angry and turned on at the same time. These two characters come from completely different backgrounds but there is something about them that pulls them together. The chemistry is crazy intense and there is so much tension, violence and sex with these two that you need to hold on tight to your seat because it gets wild!
This is one amazing dark romance that you won’t want to miss out on. This amazing author knows just how to keep us captivated and highly entertained! Brilliantly written and very thrilling to read. Highly recommend.
