Juliet by Kailee Reese Samuels was a masterfully woven tale of tangled lives and relationships all centered around Juliet . . . a training academy for submissives.
Married at 18, Iris Kettles’ world is rocked when her husband is killed in action. Trying to deal with the aftermath, Iris finds a key and an address that leads her to Sugargrove Texas. Once there, Iris begins unraveling the truth about who her husband really was and what she really needs and wants to do with the rest of her life.
Once in Sugargrove, Iris discovers her late husband had ties to Juliet. Iris is drawn to the academy in ways she can’t understand as well as to the people who make up the extended Juliet family. Her biggest draw is the golden boy among the submissives, Salvatore.
Salvatore is also drawn to Iris, but struggles with commitment and tends to use sex as a way to avoid dealing with his emotions. Iris and Sal begin a relationship dance that takes them both on journeys of self-discovery, love, pain, anger, denial, friendship, and more . . . it is a true emotional roller coaster that neither can seem to quit.
This book is extremely intense and has many points of views giving the reader into a variety of viewpoints from both submissive and dominant standpoints. I devoured this book needing and wanting to watch Iris and Sal find their ways among the Juliet society. The ancillary characters are well written and add much to the plot. Their love for one another shines through, even though the actions are not always what the reader will expect.
My personal note to readers is that there are some very intense scenes, both sexually and emotionally. Make sure you have a box of tissues on standby and prepare to immerse yourself into the world of Juliet.
4 stars.
