He was never a part of my plan… dead when the judge sentences me to time in France with her. Actually, I take that back, I want her to keel over dead! And then somebody says she has cancer. Wow, I’ve never had a wish fulfilled this fast. But until that happens—or I turn eighteen, whichever comes first—I’m required to work in some unknown family’s vineyards.
Yeah, right…
France, however, holds another surprise for me. Julian.
He doesn’t miss a chance to provoke me, and for some reason he seems to foresee each step of my brilliant escape plan. What the hell—?
But then he makes a tiny mistake. And suddenly, I’m confronted with a secret that makes the little hair at the back of my neck stand on end.

Who would give up a chance to be with your mom and find love?
In Julian by Anna Katmore, this is the question that our lovely main character Jona Montiniere has to ask herself. She gets a second chance at having a life with her mom when she hasn’t had one since she was a little girl. I went through all of the emotions while reading this book.
What I like:
• Ms. Katmore’s writing style.
• It is in the first person point of view, all we know is what Jona thinks, and it’s fun to see it through her eyes.
• Jona is still able to fall in love and got to reconnect with her mom.
• France as the setting was splendid. It almost made me forget I was in Montana in the winter.
• The banter between Jona and Julian is tantalizing and refreshing.
What I don’t like:
I didn’t like that it was slow in the beginning and that made it hard for me to get into it. Also, the main character, Jona was a bit off-putting with her sarcastic comments and the way that she talked to anyone trying to help her. Another dislike I have is that Julian wouldn’t explain a whole lot to her despite everything that he did to make her life a bit easier. The last thing that bothered me is that Jona didn’t know how to tell Julian that she loved him.
Four Star
Julian by Anna Katmore is a sweet book. Jona grows on you especially once she starts to let people in. The plot and turn of events that lead us throughout the book to the moment that it ends were entertaining. Get your tissues as this book is a tearjerker during certain parts. Oh, and the mystery of what Julian is kept me going. I am giving this book a four-star rating as it was a perfect read. I am also recommending it to all my young adult paranormal romance readers out there.

Jona never thought her life would turn out the way it did the day she was dropped at the orphanage at the young age of 5. Now that she’s 17, her life’s about to get a bit complicated. When caught shoplifting, she was faced with two options, go to prison or stay with her mother and family in France until her 18th birthday. Not having a great relationship with her mother, she chose prison… but we wouldn’t have a book if she got her way. Forced to spend time with her mom and family, Jona is determined to not enjoy herself. The problem? Julian… mom’s “caretaker”. He seems to know her every move… before she even makes it! As Julian and Jona get close and get to know each other, each day becomes more complicated. Can anyone find happiness, before it’s too late?
While I thoroughly enjoyed this book, my issue is that it took a while to get into. The beginning is a bit slow, but it picks up around chapter 3. It definitely drives home the message of how important forgiveness is and how you never knew what you had until it’s gone. I adored Julian, it wasn’t hard to figure out who he really was… given the cover. I thought Jona was a bit of a brat. Don’t get me wrong… she’s earned that right to be, however… she was so much of a brat you tend to forget she’s turning 18 soon. Overall, the writing was great, with great character development. Definitely worth a read!
