Well thought out plot.
I started this series with book #3, enjoyed it so much that I went back and read books 1 & 2. With these 2, Torpedo Ink has become my new favorite series.
It’s unusual but this MC series starts not with the story of its Pres but Enforcer Reaper. Reaper along with his twin Savage are the defenders of the club and specifically Prez Czar. Having survived a childhood straight from the depths of hell, Reaper doesn’t believe that he has a happy future ahead of him. Being part of Torpedo Ink, guarding his brothers and sisters, and wreaking havoc on the evil of the world is enough for him. Until Anya takes up position behind the bar the club owns. Anya is a street kid determined to have more in her life, saving her money and looking for a better future.
This is not a series for the faint of heart. The way Reaper (and all the Torpedos) grew up, the situations and depravity are hard to read. He fought tooth and nail to just survive, making him hard in personality but a deep well of compassion. A man for whom right and wrong is clear but deeper emotions are elusive. Anya, born to an underage girl and drug user, knows how to survive but she wants more. She strives to have a place to call her own and a family that accepts her. The two have great chemistry from the outset, setting the pages on fire when they aren’t circling each other warily.
Judgment is a hefty read that introduces the cast of characters in the MC, who they are, what their purpose is while telling the love story of Reaper and Anya. There is a great amount of action to steam, interaction to inner monologue so that there is really no downtime to the pacing. You are always learning something new or getting scenes with Reaper and Anya. Even with as long as it is, I blew through Judgement Road within a few hours because I just didn’t want to put it down.
This has to be one of the best MC series I’ve read and I think it’s because it is so different. This is the first book in the Torpedo Ink series and it starts with a bang! It looks at the relationship between Reaper and Anya. Reaper is a hard character, in the sense that he doesn’t give much away, is quiet and almost closed off, but that all changes with bartender Anya who he seems to fall for almost instantly, even though he knows that he shouldn’t because of the darkness in him.
This book focuses a lot on what Reaper and the rest of the MC have gone through and at times it can be hard to read as it is quite horrific. But so is Anya’s past, when you find out where she came from and what she has done to survive it is quite heart-breaking. I really liked that the relationship wasn’t easy…there was a lot of turmoil; and misunderstandings between Anya and Reaper which can only happen with two people who have such traumatic pasts.
There is such a bond between all the men and women of the MC and at times you could totally understand how Anya felt like she didn’t belong, especially when it came to making decisions based on past experiences.
Overall this was a riveting read with some intensely hot sexy scenes, scenes of pure heartbreak and sheer redemption, especially when it comes to Reaper and how he sees himself! If you like a touch of paranormal, with a dash of darkness and some smoking hotness all mixed together then this series is for you!
Great characters. You get invested in the story do that these people become your friends! One of my favorite authors and this is one of her new story lines.
So, I really liked the actual story, but there were things that really REALLY bothered me. First of all… repetition is NOT our friend. Second, repetition is NOT our friend. Also, it’s ok to simply way, “we were taught to use sex as a weapon.” Instead of saying “We were taught sex every way imaginable and had sex with all women imaginable, and did everything imaginable and unimaginable. And we were better than perfect.” goes back to repetition is NOT our friend. Cause they can kill every way imaginable and have sex every way imaginable. There are several different things similar that really detracted from the overall book, but it’s in every Feehan book I’ve ever read and I don’t expect her to change now. The book tries to be paranormal, but it was almost as if the author couldn’t commit. There are hints, especially the interrogation, but that was pretty much it. Though i understand why it was necessary — SPOILER!!! you can’t very well physically torture the heroine and have her fall in love with you later END SPOILER!!! — it felt out of place given the lack of paranormal elements in the rest of the book.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. Just a few gripes.
Judgment Road is the first book I’ve ever read by Christine Feehan, and now I’m adding the previous series the author has written to my TBR list on Goodreads. One of the many reasons is due to two of the characters that appeared in the first book in the Torpedo Ink series, actually already had their book and I’m going to make time to read the other books Christine Feehan has written.
FAIR WARNING ahead of time that this book is not for the faint of hearted and it’s not suitable for anyone underneath the age of 18. There were times I was uncomfortable with certain parts of the books, but it is due to some of the dark violence and topics that were mentioned or happened in the book when reading it. All I can say is the Torpedo Ink Motorcycle Club is not a motorcycle club you want to mess with, especially since they all have their way of killing someone. This is due to how harshly they were trained in Russia. No other motorcycle clubs know about the Torpedo Ink team, and the team would like to keep it that way. Unfortunately, something is happening to other clubs that will start to impact Torpedo Ink where other clubs will ask for their assistance.
Judgment Road is a good introduction to the Torpedo Ink series with quite a bit of characters being introduced and worldbuilding that is happening in the first book. The first couple chapters alone I didn’t know what I was getting myself into when reading the book. Don’t get me wrong I’ve read motorcycle club books before, but never in the PNR genre and like I stated in the previous paragraph this book involved some very dark sensitive subjects to it.
Reaper is the main male character in the book, and I didn’t know if I was going like him in the book because how he was already treating one of the female characters. He’s the Enforcer of the club, and he’s very lethal and scary. The way the author described him made me want to stay away from him and not look back at all. Christine scarily described the other characters too. Although, I’m intrigued by some of them, especially after getting to know their abilities. Reaper’s abilities though are downright awful though. He has it out for the new bartender at their bar and wants the Czar to fire her. Something about her is throwing him off.
Anya Rafferty is the new bartender at the biker bar, and she’s trying everything to keep her job, even though the scariest member of Torpedo Ink has it out for her for some reason. She’s trying to keep her head low because she has her secrets and they come rearing forward sooner than later. Anya ends up falling into the club pretty drastically. I felt for her in the story because she didn’t want to be a part of it.
There is a lot of dark times in this book, and after finding out what happened to Reaper, I can understand why he’s the way he is now. There’s also the big issues that are happening in the book that will show off some of the other Torpedo Ink club members. I’m interested to read more about Absinthe, Code, Steele, Savage, etc. There are so many different characters that are mentioned briefly in the book, but those stuck out to me in this book the most.
Overall, I give the first book to the series 3.5 stars and recommend it to fans of Christine Feehan’s other books and readers that love a mixture of PNR/motorcycle club in their books. This book may not be my favorite, but that is due to certain elements that bothered me. I did enjoy the book though it just took me a while to read this book.
Will, I read the next book in the series? Yes. I want to find out more about the other club members and find out about their troubled pasts and find out who they will fall in love with in their stories.
It is a good book. Tragic in places and a little dark. The one thing I’ve noticed about her writing in the last several books is, she repeats her info about her characters, a lot. They are still good books but with some repetitive “ness” going on.
I have loved the paranormal books by this author and to know she is now writing MC novels well that was a treat indeed.
She handled this genre perfectly. This book gives you everything a great story should.
Tons of feels…
This MC club is made up of tortured souls.
However, their quests are for the good of mankind.
Reaper enforcer of Torpedo Ink has fallen for their bartender. But is Anya what she seems to be?
Can these two twisted souls become one in the end?
Grab your copy and enjoy this action-packed, sexy, emotional story.
Wonderful exciting very emotional
Loved the book. A departure from her other series but still awesome. Love the characters so far. Can’t wait to see which character will be featured in the next one. A departure from what I’m used to from Christine but it was gritty, erotic and suspenseful. It almost had me holding my breath in a few places. Great read.
One of my best books by CF
Excellent read
Dear lord, I absolutely loved Reaper and Anya’s story! Smart, sexy, tender, engrossing, and heartbreakingly beautiful! I was entranced from the very first page and couldn’t put Judgment Road down until I finished. I am captivated by all of these Torpedo Ink characters and cannot wait for more in this series.
This is the first book in Feehan’s new MC series and it does not disappoint
The story takes place just outside of sea haven. Torpedo Ink is compromised of survivors – each having a special or psychic gift that is unique to the individual but all sharing the same horrific past. They survived together and now they live as a tight brotherhood, rebuilding, and reclaiming their lives – Learning to live and love in a world they don’t completely understand.
Reaper is the enforcer – swift, deadly the perfect killing machine- he lives to protect his club, his family – he never questions his duty – until Anya
Sweet innocent -smart mouth little vixen Anya
Well developed characters both main and secondary
The plotline flowed smoothly – though I had a small problem with the “closed spaces” issue -if he could do it at the club he could do it in a house – don’t want to give spoilers but that was a major hiccup for me -the reason for the loss of a star
Lots of action, suspense, mystery and steamy romance
Will be adding this series to my Must have list
If you are a fan of Feehan’s writing style or the MC romance genre then this is definitely one series you don’t want to pass up
I love how this series was a spin-off of the other two. We see that the group from Russia has what they need to live life to the fullest but without love there is nothing for them. In this story we watch as Reaper, Czar enforcer finally finds what they all hope to have one day…love. Anya is a bartender who knows a few things about another club and hides when she finds her roommate dead. Finally through it all they turn it all around and soon we see live bloom. I can’t wait to see who gets the next book in this series. I absolutely give it 5+ stars
Reaper acts like he doesn’t care, but he actually does, “you have trouble with those idiots at the bar, you look my way. Understand me?” It was an order. He didn’t ask.” Reaper says what’s on his mind, “got to eff you again hard, woman. Only thing that mellows you out.” This book was everything, I loved the characters I can’t wait for more books to come and other characters getting a story. Reaper that man was just scrumptious, he had his demons and his demeanor screamed alpha, bossy man.
Awesome read.
The main character is a hard-ass and can be annoying. You can get why he is the way he is but man I wish he would give it a break when you have your reason for existing right in front of you. Otherwise loved the book. The relationship had to be worked for and was a long ride I truly enjoyed.
Loved it! 4.5 stars. A great start to another exciting series from this author. A different type of MC. Hot former Russian assassins with issues. But who doesn’t love a bada$$ with ice blue eyes! This story had some of the usually MC behaviors but without most of the criminal activities like gun runner or drugs. Fantastic MC characters which appears to have some mystical abilities. The brothers were harda$$, scary, lethal and delicious. Reaper was the baddest of all. Liked the girls too. Anya vacillated a little too much between staying or going and was very forgiving. Worth the read! Can’t wait for the next story.
Love all Christine Feehan Books. This one continues my addiction.
