I LOVE a wounded and broken hero–and I freaking LOVED this book! I had a million things to do and thought I’d just read the first chapter…nope. I didn’t stop reading until I finished the book. I didn’t even stop to eat – just grabbed a protein bar when I was hungry. The hero is badass, dangerous, deadly, wounded, and all of the good stuff that you just want to fix. The heroine is kind hearted, tough, and a survivor. And the band of brothers/sisters around them is fascinating, and I hope every single one of them gets a book, and I loved their dedication to each other and how tough and vulnerable the entire group is as a whole. I read the book in eBook but I’m buying a print one for my keeper shelf.
I weep for Reaper. Such a tortured past and current with Anya providing moments of hope and peace. I am in awe of Anya ‘s strength. Some of this (sex included) was a little rough, but it was a very intricate part of the plot. I am thrilled with this new spin off and can’t wait for the rest to come. I personally don’t need so much, nor so detailed, but the story was so well done, so emotional, so feeling that I still have to give it a 5. I am a proud member of CF Ambassadors and received this ARC.
I asked to be able to provide my opinion.
“His soul had been gone so long ago that he couldn’t remember having one. Now, his heart was slowly disappearing.”
4.5 stars– JUDGMENT ROAD is the first instalment in Christine Feehans’ contemporary, adult TORPEDO INK slightly paranormal, erotic, romance series focusing on the members of the MC Torpedo Ink. The Torpedo Ink series is a spin-off from the author’s Sea Haven series but you do not have to have read the original series to understand or follow Torpedo Ink. This is Torpedo Ink enforcer and Sergeant at Arms Savva ‘Reaper’ Pajari, and bartender Anya Rafferty’s story line.
NOTE: Most of the characters including Torpedo Ink club president Victor ‘Czar’ Prakenski, and his wife Blythe Daniels were introduced in the final instalment of the author’s Sea Haven Series BOUND TOGETHER.
WARNING: JUDGMENT ROAD contains, and makes reference to graphic violence, rape, murder, torture and abuse against children and women, and therefore, may not be suitable for all readers.
SOME BACKGROUND: At the tender age of ten years old, Victor ‘Czar’ Prakenski set about to save and rescue over three hundred children from a Russian child sex-slave operation but in the end only eighteen survived. The Torpedo Ink series focuses on the survivors: their stories, their history, and their happily ever afters.
Told from several third person perspectives including Reaper and Anya JUDGMENT ROAD follows the acrimonious relationship between Torpedo Ink enforcer, assassin and Sergeant At Arms Savva ‘Reaper’ Pajari, and bartender Anya Rafferty. Anya Rafferty is a new hire at the biker bar run by the Torpedo Ink MC; a woman that quickly gets under Reaper’s skin but a woman whose past may be a threat to the security and safety of the Torpedo Ink MC. When a rival MC comes looking for help the Torpedo Ink gang set into motion a search and rescue mission that reveals a much darker and deeper threat than anyone had suspected, a threat that quite possibly leads back to Anya Rafferty. What ensues is the building and volatile relationship between Reaper and Anya; the search and take down of the threats against Torpedo Ink; and the potential fall-out when Reaper’s nightmares and heart breaking past refuse to let go.
Reaper is a stone-cold killer; a dark and tormented man whose own family-the Torpedo Ink MC- is troubled by his emotional instability and inability to let go. Trained as an assassin Reaper believes he is incapable of any relationship involving the woman with whom he will fall in love. With the arrival of Anya Rafferty, Reaper slowly begins to shed his dark and cold exterior. Anya Rafferty is on the run and finding a home with the Torpedo Ink MC places everyone in danger. Unaware of the history, and the savage beginnings of the man that she loves Anya finds herself at a crossroads, ready to run, on more than one occasion.
We are introduced to all eighteen members of Torpedo Ink- survivors of horrific abuse, torture and betrayal at the hands of the sick and depraved. A tight-knit group that calls itself family, the Torpedo Ink gang collectively share telepathic abilities, as well as a heart breaking and devastating history that only furthers their close relationship and over-protective nature as it pertains to one of their own.
The world building reveals the tragic history of abuse, torture, rape and ‘education’ of a group of children who discovered that the world and people have a sick and twisted version of right and wrong. In past reviews I have remarked on the author’s increasing violent story lines and abuse against women and children but in the case of the Torpedo Ink series, the violence is part of their history and lives-ingrained and imbedded –into their very existence.
JUDGMENT ROAD and the Torpedo Ink are the stories of the broken; the damaged; betrayal and revenge. The premise is a startling and edgy; the characters are colorful, charismatic and protective; the romance is dramatic, controversial and healing. Christine Feehan enters the world of the MC with the first fiery instalment in the Torpedo Ink series.
Anya was raised in shelters and on the streets. She’s hiding out in a little town working as a bartender in a biker club. Reaper comes from Russia and had a very traumatic childhood. He is the enforcer for the club and probably the most damaged. The club was raised in a school for assassins in Russia, now they rescue people who have been kidnapped or are being sold. Reaper wants Anya but is terrified of hurting her.. Anya just wants a normal life, a family to love her, and kids. There is so much to this story and I don’t want to give anything away. Sexual graphic. Bikers. Torture of children. The story will leave you wanting to bawl your eyes out.
I was delighted to get this ARC at NetGalley, I really didn’t expect it. I have read all of Christine’s Carpathians so this was a treat. It was pretty typical Feehan, lots of description and restating things a few times and kinda slow pacing, but I was expecting that. I have found I must put my internal editor away and just go with it. Her books are worth it. Warning this has a LOT more sex than usual.
These bikers are so damaged but not broken. They somehow have good hearts and bleed for those who are abused as they were. They are the survivors of a Russian spy’s training “school” using the most horrific techniques imaginable to shape these children into assassins. Many have certain gifts that help them in their operations. They kill to protect or defend now. Their mission now is to hunt pediphiles and rescue their victims. Reaper, Savva Pajari is a Sergeant at Arms with his blood brother Savage, Savin. Their job is to protect the leader, club president Czar, Viktor Prakenskii. They are VERY good at their job. They have side businesses, one of them is a bar where Anya Rafferty works. She’s running from a bad group of men because she overheard something she wasn’t supposed at their casino/bar. She’s a very good bartender by trade and they hired her for her skills. Reaper is drawn to her immediately but he’s not interested in a relationship and has few skills. He also has a phobia of being touched. There’s some sex problems as well. When he discovers she’s sleeping in the wilderness in her rattle-trap car he steps in and brings her to the compound. The intrigue and action in this book are fabulous as only Christine can write it. I loved these character’s hearts and dedication to each other.
Thank you Berkley for granting me this NetGalley ARC.
Christine Feehan has done it again, she has created a world full of strong, compelling characters that really grab readers by the heart strings as well as being full of suspense that holds them hostage throughout the story. I loved the Drake Sisters and then I fell in love with the Sisters of the Heart characters and now I get to visit Sea Haven some more with more wonderful characters.
The romance between Anya and Reaper is anything but easy as it has lots of emotional turbulence, turmoil that keeps readers wondering as to whether or not this couple can get the past issues that keep rearing their ugly heads and the present issues that threaten to tear them apart. Readers can’t help but become emotional caught up in the story as well the character’s lives.
The suspense builds throughout the story keeping readers glued to the pages as there is danger coming from several different directions but that danger is kind of all tied together which makes for a medium to fast paced and complex plot that.
I must say that while I was looking forward to the release of Judgment Road, I also had some doubts about it too because I wasn’t sure that I would like the mc angle of the story, but I am glad to say that I was completely captivated by the members of the Torpedo Ink MC and that Christine Feehan did such a great job of world building that they slid right into Sea Haven with no problems whatsoever and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Y’all…one of my book besties kept telling me that this series is a must read!! Yea I was a hard head and kept putting them off..
Then……
I decided to read and Holy Moly I’m in freaking LOVE!!! Feehan is AMAZING and I’m just now finding her Thank you Rosa Sharon for keeping after me until I read..lol. I am now obsessed with this author and her MC men!!! *SWOON*
I was dying to get my hands on this book after we met all of the members of Torpedo Ink in the last Sea Harbor book. Reaper meets his match when they hire a new bartender which sets off all of his emotions and feelings that he has no clue how to deal with. Due to his past he tries his best to fight the attraction but fate has other plans. I have to say it is not a smooth road for these at all. They have quite a few issues to deal with along with some outside danger before it all work out in the end. A great introduction to a new spin off series that already has me hooked. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
“He needed the wind in his face and the devil at his back.”
Judgment Road was my introduction to author Christine Feehan. All I can say is… mind blown. I’m guessing she hasn’t been on my radar because I don’t read paranormal. But I am addicted to MC Romance so when I saw her latest cover with a biker on it she got my attention. So, I gave her a chance and it was the best decision ever. I can’t even put into words how much I enjoyed this book, it was that good.
Anya is a recent hire in the biker bar owned by Torpedo Ink MC. She’s a good bartender and handles herself well. The only problem is that Reaper can’t take his eyes off of her. This is bad. Very bad. He wants her gone, now! That’s the lie he told himself and his club president, Czar. Neither believed him…
Anya is on the run. She’s living in her car at a local campground and insisted on being paid in cash. She doesn’t want to draw attention to herself. But she can’t deny that having Reaper’s attention wouldn’t be so bad, until she overhears him trying to get her fired. She needs her job and since she didn’t do anything wrong, she’s taking it very personal. When the club president allows her to keep her job she’s relieved but still pissed at Reaper. Her mom always told her, “When you don’t know what to do, stand still.”
Reaper is a coldhearted killer. He doesn’t show emotion and he doesn’t chit-chat. Only his club family know about his past, and they are used to his ways. He’s never shown any interest in a woman before, and when it becomes obvious that Anya has his attention, it gets their attention. He fights it soooo hard, but he can’t push her out of his mind, or his fantasies. He becomes obsessed with her safety and when it becomes dangerous for her, he takes matters into his own hands.
The chemistry between Reaper and Anya is intense from the get-go. With Reaper fighting it so hard, this enthusiastic reader was mentally urging and chanting in the background, encouraging them to let it loose, promising to keep a fire extinguisher nearby just-in-case. I knew it was going to be a hot and explosive inferno when it finally happened. How exciting it was for me to anticipate, the waiting was thrilling, and every page turn was a new adventure.
Let’s just say that Code has nothing on this reader when it comes to author stalking. Now that I’ve discovered Christine Feehan, she will stay on my radar, I can’t wait for more Torpedo Ink MC. They are very special, “These broken, damaged individuals weren’t quite so broken or damaged when they were together.” There are so many other very interesting characters with very special skills that I can’t wait to get to know better. The line forms here…
Christine has outdone herself in this well written, steamy story of a biker named Reaper and a sexy bartender named Anya. The group he lives with, called Torpedo Ink, have some pretty amazing job skills which they put to good use by going after child traffickers and other bad people.
I can tell I’m going to love this series!
This is the first book of a new series by Christine Feehan. She introduced us to many of the characters in Bound Together (Sisters of the Heart series). The stories continued, this time revealing Reaper and his demons. We are also treated to glimpses of the rest of the family that is Torpedo Ink. I received the book 2 days ago and I am back to reading the book for the second time. Judgement Day is an edgy, somewhat dark book but is the start of a wonderful new series.
Reaper looked out for all the members of Torpedo Ink. He didn’t think he deserved anything or especially anyone of his own but he couldn’t resist the new bartender. Anya just needed to keep her new job but she was very attracted to Reaper. Neither of them were looking of a long term relationship, but they decided to give in to the attraction. That was just the beginning.
While Reaper and Anya work on their relationship, they also have to deal with club business and Anya’s past. There is lots of action, suspense, and learning how to work together.
I’m looking forward to more of the members of Torpedo Ink.
Just WOW! I just wish I could write a book as half as good as Christine Feehan. But I’ll have to settle with reading them instead… like that’s a hardship! I’ve always loved author Christine Feehan’s writing; this book did not disappoint. I can honestly say this will be added to my collection when it comes out on paperback. She has a way of writing hot men with complicated histories like nobody’s business. This is a spinoff of a spinoff, so it was nice for me to hear some familiar characters from those stories as well. If you haven’t read from this author yet, no worries you don’t need to read the other books to follow along with this story. I love MC stories and felt this story had solid characters and I really liked the heroine Anya, she was a great fit to our hero Reaper. Even though she isn’t your normal biker gal, she seemed to understand Reaper very quickly; I think it was because of her own experience in her life growing up. In fact, she tired her best to help Reaper throughout the book. But you will have to read to know what happens I don’t want to put any spoilers out there. I do have to disclose that there is abuse mental and physical, torture, pedophilia, and violence for those who have issues with those types of triggers though I felt the author did a great job not to over whelm her readers with too much description of the encounters. The story was full of action and as with all Ms. Feehan’s books, hot dirty sexy scenes you should check it out if you like dirty dirty kinky dirty. I cannot wait to see what the next story in the Torpedo Ink series will bring us; I bet they will be just as amazing!
***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.*** Thank you!
I got hooked on the Torpedo Ink characters in Bound Together and was so happy when Judgement Road came out. Reaper is by far my favorite character. He is so strong yet so vulnerable. So willing and wanting to do what is necessary to make his relationship with Anya work. Anya is the perfect balance for him. Her quiet strength and compassion allows him to be who he needs to be. I loved this book.
This is a story about a Reaper the enforcer of the Torpedo Ink, and Anya Rafferty she has a job at the biker bar. Anya, she Reaper weakness, he wants ,Anya. But he feels he not good enough for Anya, and he can’t trust anyone because of all the things he have done in life to survive, also the brutal education in a Russian training facility for assassins that was made of children. The men ,and woman of Torpedo Ink are now a family that found a place ,near Sea Haven, a small town of Caspar. A sample the page 5 of Judgement Road ( One look at Anya Rafferty, Listening to the sound of her voice. Her fucking laugh. The way all that hair fell around her face like a dark cloud. A waterfall. She had more hair than two women put together, and he found he thought a lot about that hair when he should be thinking about keeping his president alive. Or himself. He refused to allow his cock to drive him. That part of his anatomy would never drive him. He didn’t trust anyone, especially not a woman who made his body ache until his teeth hurt.) This is a sample, book is just getting started. This novel is so good, and the people inside. Reaper is a bad boy Russian, and Anya a young woman who’s strong enough for this man.
I dont think I can say enough about this book. I am definitely in love
Amazing- fall in love instantly characters, great story line and details.
The character’s chemistry throughout is amazing. (Not just the main 2 but all of them together just- belongs perfectly) the sex scenes are STEAMY and detailed ( so not for everyone unless you enjoy them)
The storyline flowed so well with great details of scenes, emotions, etc. Speaking of emotions- ugh- just pulled me along for the ride with the characters.
This series will definitely be one I keep track of and wait with baited breath for the next to come!
Well written!
I have read other reviews about the torpedo inc. Books. That there tortuous books. If you don’t like the series don’t read them. They are the bad boy hero’s who came out the otherside. But to say you will never read another book of hers is sad because I read all her series and I love them.
Steaming hot sex, wicked danger around every corner and more angst than we know what to do with … what more could we ask for??? To my delight I’m finally finding the time to sit down and dig into Christine Feehan’s take on an MC romance, and I’ll tell you right now,I’m hooked! There’s a touch of paranormal, but mostly edge of your seat drama and danger. The characters are raw and emotionally scarred, but a close knit family of friends, siblings and extras. The ending was a bit abrupt, but I loved every minute leading up to it and I’m looking forward to devouring the rest of the series!
Savva Pajari AKA Reaper is a cold-hearted killer who we should abhor, yet hearing his story and seeing his reaction to every day life burns him into a reader’s soul and makes us want to save him. I loved watching him accept love.
Anya Rafferty is endearing. She’s scared of the life Reaper lives, but she is drawn to him with every breath she takes. She finds the strength to accept the ugliness she can’t change while at the same time standing up for what she believes in and expecting more from him.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves an unabashedly raw romance filled with danger, crime and heartfelt affection. I’m looking forward to a series binge!
This series is an offshoot of the Sea Haven/Sisters of the Heart series and introduced the characters in the last book, Bound Together, which is Czar’s story.
Reaper is the enforcer for the Torpedo Ink motorcycle club. He lives for riding and fighting. Feelings are a weakness Reaper refuses to show, until he meets the sexy bartender Anya. He fights his feelings for weeks but after one touch he can’t let her go.
This book was fast, furious, and dark. Reaper, and the Torpedo Ink group, are a tight knit family that was created from a horrific situation. Reaper is the tough as steel enforcer who shows no emotions until it comes to Anya. She brings life back into him and makes him face his past. Anya is Reaper’s opposite. She is a beautiful, kind soul who is just to find her way in life.
Reaper and Anya’s story was a rollercoaster of emotions and acceptance. Their journey was brutal, emotional, and painful, all of which was necessary for their happiness. This was an intense, dark, emotional, and action packed book that kept me hooked from the first page. If you enjoy dark romances or Feehan’s books definitely check this series out.
Also, this was just as good as I remembered it being and I cannot wait to dive into the next one.
Reader Warning:
– Hero raped and abused as a child.
– Torture and rape of side characters.
– Also discusses pedophilia and human trafficking.
I love this whole series.
