When a cop killer cuts loose in a club called Purgatory, New York Detective Eve Dallas descends into an underground criminal hell in this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series. In an uptown strip joint, a cop is found bludgeoned to death. The weapon’s a baseball bat. The motive’s a mystery. It’s a case of serious overkill that pushes Eve Dallas straight into overdrive. Her … straight into overdrive. Her investigation uncovers a private club that’s more than a hot spot. Purgatory’s a last chance for atonement where everyone is judged. Where your ultimate fate depends on your most intimate sins. And where one cop’s hidden secrets are about to plunge innocent souls into vice-ridden damnation…

Eve Dallas and Roarke aren’t a perfect couple, but they’re perfect for each other. Sometimes they’re “couple” scenes are jarring, at least for me, but that’s what makes them feel so real. Sometimes, even the writing jars me–small things like POV shifts I don’t expect or dialogue I have to go back to figure out who’s saying what, but none of that matters, because each scene is so vivid. The characters feel raw at times. Webster’s internal conflict–both about Eve and his job–made me fear for him. Mavis’s marital advice for Eve made me laugh. This wasn’t a smooth read, a seamless book, and that’s what made me like it so much. I’m glad I’ll never catch up with all of the books in this series. They’re perfect reads when I’m in the mood for something grittier.
From the first paragraph I was hooked on this book!
She stood in Purgatory and studied death. The blood and the gore of it, the ferocity of its glee. It had come to this place with the willful temper of a child, full of heat and passion and careless brutality.
Judgement in Death- J. D. Robb
When a cop is murdered in a nightclub owned by Lieutenant Eve Dallas’ husband Roarke, it’s just the beginning of one of the most complicated cases of her career.
The investigation uncovers a web of dirty cops, drugs, money laundering, and murder orchestrated by an old associate of Roarke’s.
It was her job to wade through the debris of murder, to pick up the pieces, see where they fit, and put together a picture of the life that had been stolen. And through that picture to find the image of a killer.
Judgement in Death- J. D. Robb
Tension escalates between Eve and Roarke. Eve is determined to do her job and catch a killer, while Roarke is just as determined to protect his wife from a crazy crime boss.
While the police procedural aspect fascinated me, it was the push-pull between Dallas and Roarke that made this story unforgettable.
“The dick’s connected to the ego. It’s medical fact. Or maybe it’s the other way around.”
Judgement in Death- J. D. Robb
Because of her abusive past, Eve tends to come across as abrupt, but it’s also the reason she’s so good at her job. She’s made it her mission to rid the planet of the monsters who pray on those weaker than them. Roarke loves her even more for her dedication, but he’s also protective and it causes them to come to loggerheads in this book.
Someone is killing cops and Roarke is standing in the way of allowing Dallas to do her job- something has to give.
When a threat is made on Eve’s life, the two of them set aside their differences to pool their resources. Will they be able to uncover the truth before it’s too late?
I can’t get enough of this series!
Love this series. Great complex plot with twists and turns and so much emotion. A great read!
In book 11, Eve is tracking down a cop killer. In the process, she learns more about her past. Will Eve Dallas find the killer or become the next cop killed?
This series keeps me coming back for more. I am so invested in learning more about Eve’s past. Plus I adore the romance between Eve and Roarke.
This book was a little eerie to read with the state of our country. Police corruption and killing of police. Politics aside it was a good read.
Triggers: Murder, Incest, Cursing, Prostitution
Enjoy all Eve Dallas books
Love this author. Will read anything that’s written.
Love the entire series!
Always great stories from JD Robb
Typical Robb, in a good way
Loved it my sort of good read
I own the whole series and I love the characters Dallas and Rourke. Also Nora Robert’s is a great writer both as herself and writing as J.D Robb. Readers are sure to like the Eve Dallas series. Unpredictable and edge of your seat stories. Just waiting for the next book.
I love the characters of Eve Dallas and Roarke. I have read every volume and will keep reading it.
I love the whole series.
I fell in love with Nora Robert’s J. D. Robb In Death series since reading her first one: Naked in Death. She has a way with writing amazing mystery stories and this series is one of my favorites. Some might say that these books are predictable, but I say that if a story keeps you intrigued and glued to the pages, than the writer is doing something right. I get a little sad when I finish the next book in the series and I take my time reading it because I know that the next book is going to be awhile before it goes to print. I am almost finished with Faithless in Death and I am already anxiously awaiting the next book. Thank you Nora!!
Always love reading Dallas books. Add Roake into the mix you have a great story line. I always hate to see the book end, always look forward to the next one.
I read every one of the series that comes out!! You go Eve Dallas!!
Can’t go wrong with an Eve Dallas book! Read them in order or mix them up—all really good reads.
From a terrible past, Eve Dallas rises above & solves crime in NYC. She meets & marries an exceptional man & together, their daily life is worth looking into.
this early in the series, Robb rarely disappoints
Wonderful to have everyone make a show in this book but boy, how extremely sad overall this was.
Eve and Roarke find that balance in their marriage is very much needed in this case.
Webster, a police officer that Eve knew from her early years in the force and who is now Internal Affairs Bureau, whom she once had sex with, makes an appearance.
Laughed when Webster and Roarke pound on each other and Eve pulls her weapon and threatens to stun Roarke.
An old acquaintance from Roarke’s past who is a nasty criminal, is pulling strings and setting cop on cop. This unravels into one huge mess, with egos and attitude evident everywhere.
Grief and manipulation causes one officer to lose his way and not trust the system to do what it should.
His quest to serve justice to the corrupt police officers was understandable as the corruption was rampant and widespread, but he is wrong. Unfortunately a good and honest police officer gets killed.
Eve, her team and Roarke bring the criminal down with style.
But how do you handle a grieving father who has lost his honour? Eve uses truth and integrity to show him what needs to be done.
Read and reviewed previously but review is missing. No hardship to reread this series for the third or fourth time.
