Journeys Through SpaceTime (Journeys Through Book 1) by James Talisman
This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Mr. Talisman has me hooked. I can’t wait to read the next book.
There are so many characters so it was hard to choose the quotes. Two that stuck out were characters from different worlds. Or different parts of the MultiVerse.
The first quote comes from Matt. He’s a college student in Colorado. The quote I chose for Matt is: “Doubt that, buddy. You seemed to be the one taking a beating earlier.”
The other quote comes from Queen Neferities. Part of another part of The MultiVerse. The quote I chose for Queen Neferities is: “I would like some time to think about your request. I will ask Aderan to arrange accommodations for you and Thoran while I spend a few days pondering your entreaty.”
Highly recommended for Fantasy Sci-fi lovers.
‘Journeys Through Spacetime’ by James Talisman marks the first entry of his ‘Journeys Through…’ series and follows six protagonists across different realms in the MultiVerse as they’re all suddenly called to action by a mysterious force against an all-encompassing evil. Talisman’s passion bleeds through the pages- there is evident love channelled into each and every one of his characters, themes and particularly, worlds. The world-building in ‘Journeys Through Spacetime’ is by far its greatest strength. As the book takes place across the literal MultiVerse, there is a tall-order on the author to ensure that the logic of their universes are consistent and to craft worlds that stretch the limits of human imagination, given that essentially anything is possible. Talisman, however, does not fail to deliver in this department- each of the realms that the six protagonists hail from are unique with different social structures and norms and are interesting and engaging to read about. There is just enough familiarity to these worlds for readers not to feel out of their depth or lost but not too much so as to quash the distinct spark that each of them has and to lose the audience’s interest. Since the book juggles multiple, it was always a treat to plunge to each of these realms- each chapter or segment serving as a nugget into the life and times of the outlined societies and their inhabitants.
Talisman also uses the book as a vehicle to disseminate ancient, esoteric wisdoms and traditions. It is shaded with considerable philosophical nuance and blended with deep, thought-provoking concepts of the collective and connected consciousness and ideas of one within many. It is clear that Talisman has taken a great deal of care into researching these notions- notions that are woven into the story’s fabric seamlessly and in a manner that isn’t jarring or doesn’t take the reader out of the story. Drawing wisdoms and customs from multiple sources, Talisman has truly designed something one-of-a-kind as building blocks to construct an unparalleled, extraordinary story that has all the strangeness, bizarreness and ingenuity one would expect of a tale spanning the MultiVerse.
Trying to write a good protagonist is no easy feat, let alone six, and yet Talisman manages to do this also. Like the worlds they come from, each of the main characters are different and distinct with their own histories, motives and personalities. There is no weak link in the colourful cast- you never feel cheated when you switch and suddenly begin to follow another because they’re all fascinating in their own right. The hero’s journey is hard enough to properly do once, but it somehow is written multiple times in relation to each of the protagonists in a way that doesn’t feel repetitive or stale. You feel the emotions along with the characters- riding their highs and successes and slumming it with them as they hit their lows and failures.
In conclusion, if you’re in the mood for compelling characters all connected by a single thread as they’re dragged into an adventure spanning space and time, then ‘Journeys Through Spacetime’ is the book for you.
This book took me roughly 2 weeks to read and I really did enjoy the overall story and diverse worlds and characters portrayed. The MultiVerse in this book encompassed stories from some interesting and very diverse worlds including but not limited to reptilian humanoids set on destruction, unlikely human heroes and celestial beings with concepts based on real physics and ideology w/ the fantastic twist we all love from a good sci-fi novel.
I found the characters to be sincerely likeable and relatable which is a feat seeing as most of the worlds are very diverse from our own reality. Strangely enough, the characters I had the hardest time getting behind and liking were the Earth characters. They seemed too formal and rigid for modern day college kids. The relationship between Matt and Julia (how many times can two people say the word ‘babe’ – too many!) just seemed overly formal and forced.
I enjoyed how the many worlds and scenarios all connect on some level and the ending was a good one, which is really important to me. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and expect I’ll enjoy that one just as much. Really interested to see how it all shakes out and what the culmination of the myriad of stories will look like.
I’d rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. The stories were great, it’s just the rigid Earthlings that threw it off a little for me. I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a good quick sci-fi read that’s multifaceted and complex but still allows for easy and enjoyable reading. I would recommend getting to know the characters a bit ahead of time. The author does a great job of providing lists of the worlds and characters at the beginning of the book which is super helpful because it can get confusing if you just jump right in without a good overview of what it is you’re diving into.
Journeys through space time by James Talisman is an amazing story!! The author did an incredible job bringing multiple worlds and characters to life. An interesting plot that will keep you hooked until the very end. Sensitive readers beware there are scenes of sexual violence that my be triggering for some. Would highly recommend this book.
This book is amazing! It had me hooked from the start, I couldn’t put the book down. It was very well written. You get lost in the world and the people in it. It takes people from all parts of life and has them connected by one thing. I loved that each character is different, but they are all fighters in the different worlds that they live on. For this book to be this author’s first, it is outstanding!
This is not my normal genre, but decided to give it a whirl. I have a hard time keeping the universes cohesive in my head, luckily there is a helpful guide at the beginning of the book. I can get lost in a romance book, this one really made me think.
Someone from every universe got the same message from an all knowing power, “I am sorry, but I must leave you for awhile.” They were all told to rely on their teachings and meditation helped them do this. They make their own futures, and with a war brewing, which side will win? Makes me wonder, what messages would I receive or find if I took the time to mediate and reflect? What else is out there? Could there really be parallel universes?
I look forward to the next book, thank you James Talisman, for spinning a tale that made me dig inside myself.
Being a fantasy/sci-fi novel, Jouneys Through SpaceTime is not my typical go-to choice for reading. However, I always love a good world-building series, and this book delivered.
Author James Talisman’s debut novel explores the classic Good vs Evil theme, in a very original yet comfortably familiar manner. As indicated by the title, the story takes place over different periods in time. Readers will follow many different characters, points of view, and story lines. All are joined by the over lying central idea that we are all One and connected in the universe.
Although I enjoy flipping back and forth between perspectives, this book does it consistently and it did take some time to establish the actual plot due to the level of character description used to develop so many points of view. The language and thinking of the characters is very formal, which may have been a tool used by the author to show how the characters are all connected in the MultiVerse. I was left with the impression that the book could be easily adapted into a TV series, as the chapters felt like episodes and many of the character’s story lines would make excellent separate books on their own.
By the end, I had fallen in love with many of the characters and looked forward to discovering how the story would unfold. I also look forward to reading book two.
I’ll be honest Journeys Through SpaceTime by James Talisman is not something I usually read; I normally stick with thriller books. However, I do not regret branching out and trying something new. Many things are happening, a lot of action, some danger, and mystery also. I wasn’t quick to figure what would happen. I thought I could guess; usually, I am pretty good at it, but Journeys Through SpaceTime kept me guessing the whole time. There are many characters, but it’s not so many that it is overwhelming because James Talisman provided a character list at the beginning of the book that really helps to understand who everyone is. The amount of detail written about the characters and what they’re facing/dealing with is so good. I felt like I was there with them like I have known these characters for a long time. It’s worth the read, and I don’t think anyone would be disappointed by taking the time to read it. I would encourage everyone to read it, even if it were a genre you would normally read. Leap and try it out!
Journeys Through SpaceTime is the first book in the Journeys Through series by James Talisman.
I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this book. The book is set in a ‘multiverse’ that consists of different worlds and spans across different times. What unites the chosen characters is the voice. Sounds confusing, but it soon makes sense. I love the concept of this story and for me, it more than lives up to my expectations.
The characters, like the book itself, are full of layers and personality. It is the kind of book where you need to pay attention. There are a lot of characters and events to keep track of, but it is definitely worth the investment of your time.
It is hard to believe that this is the author’s debut novel, his writing is engaging and experienced. It is obviously an idea that was a long time coming, it is so well developed. I can’t wait to read the next installment!
One voice links the multiple beings from multiply dimensions but can they find the meaning behind it.
Can they with help from special mentors along the way battle against the evil which is trying to destroy them and overcome to help the good win.
I have to say this is not normally a genre that interests me at all but I was recommended it to read and although at first it took a few chapters to get into it I thoroughly enjoyed the overall story. The book opens up to make you think about your views and aspects of multi realities and space and it was a brilliant world that was conjured up with the pages of this book.
I do have to say if you are not good at reading or following multiply perspectives and narratives in a book this may not be a book for you. Although this add the dimension to the book that I really enjoyed. The characters where so different and unique in the way they were portrayed and written that the story flowed brilliantly and engaging.
As this the first book in this authors collection I thought it was a great effort and will continue to read the next book in this progression through reality.
This Sci-Fi creation takes your imagination on whirlwind of 5 different individuals as they navigate personal beliefs, personal struggles, and the overall connection they each somehow have. Its such a fun story that you cant help but want to read from start to finish with no distractions. The relatable characters and life lessons no matter the world they inhabit made the story even more lifelike.
There were so many things about this book that can be said! James Talisman took us on quite the adventure with his Multiverse and the many different characters who inhabit it. The worlds were wonderfully crafted with the most well thought out characters and their intricately woven stories. This book was a complete page turner, and has me revved up for the sequel.
Please excuse me while I go grab book two!!……. This book is so amazing! The way the author builds up his characters is wonderful. You can envision this unfolding! I didn’t want to put it down once I got into it. Definitely a page turner here!! I haven’t read many sci-fi type books, but I really enjoyed this one. Traveling through space time, meeting each character, and following along while their adventures unfold was very entertaining. I would definitely recommend this book to sci-fi lovers!!
Journeys through Spacetime is the first book in the series. It sets the tone for what to expect and boy did it deliver. This is my first sci-fi book I’ve read and I can’t wait for more. It has multiple characters in multiple universes and the way the Author gets down to the even tiniest detail is amazing. The story has danger of course, it has a lot of mystery and just a little bit of excitement. While reading the book I came to really enjoy it. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in the series. I definitely feel like this book deserves 5 stars.

Journeys Through Spacetime is unlike any book you have ever read. It is classified as science fiction/fantasy but it also has spirituality woven throughout. It really is an original story. It takes place on different planets and separate times. Many reminding me of different eras on Earth; Egyptians, Japanese warriors and ninjas, gladiators and present day. There are many characters and multiple points of view which are constantly changing. This I found made it difficult to follow the story. Just as I was getting into it, we changed places and characters. Parts of the book felt like I was watching an episode of Star Trek. Readers who are interested in sci-fi will love this book. Personally I’m not a fan but I decided to step outside the box a little and try something different. I do believe in mind over matter so the book intrigued me.
The author gave most of his characters a very formal speech which felt unnatural to me. It turned me off and annoyed me because no one speaks like that. I’m willing to forgive this because the story takes place in different time eras and planets so it is a possibility. Personally I felt that there were too many storylines and there were only a couple that I was interested in. Cassius and Hirosho drew me in the most. Hirosho and the shadow demon could have been a book unto itself.
Honestly I wasn’t sure how to rate this boom. It’s not a three but not quite a four. I finally decided to give it a four stars. I felt that being a debut novel for this author, it was good. The concept was original and well thought out. I wasn’t going to let my personal preferences and tastes affect the rating.
James Talisman has the gift of descriptive writing! I am normally not big into the Sci-Fi genre, but Talisman’s writing style and character development, along with his story building, had me excitedly turning pages. It did take me a while to understand the immenseness of the characters and worlds in this book, but Talisman’s talented use of descriptive words had me feeling as though I were in the multiverse along with them. Journeys Through SpaceTime is an amazing work of art full of otherworldly characters, amazing settings, and a sense wonder at the vastness of life and our interconnectedness with everything around us. I don’t think I’ll be switching my overall reading to this genre anytime soon, but I will definitely be seeking out more from Mr. Talisman.
A must read! I am normally not a fan of sci-fi fantasy novels, but Journeys Through SpaceTime takes you into a multiverse that really brings you to a place of wanting every complex drop of knowledge you can wring from the story. The first little bit can be confusing (I actually read it twice) but is full of very important details that you need to really be cognizant of space time dimensions and the silky threads that bind it together. If you are reading the book and feel like giving up I urge you to keep reading. James Talisman really brings all these seemingly unrelated events to fruition. I thoroughly enjoyed the complexity of the inter dimensional threads that combined the characters.
He takes you to places in such detail that you can actually see, feel and smell what he is describing. I absolutely love the details in this book. To me there is nothing better than an author who can create a picture so clear in your mind you can swear you have been there and James does exactly that!
I also find the parallels between our world and the universes James creates particularly fascinating. Believe me this book is a hidden gem and I cannot wait for the next installment!
I highly recommend this novel for you to read!! The author tackled the multiverse with multiple characters, who were pretty diverse in their personalities, with great skill! I truly enjoyed myself with this Science Fiction/Fantasy novel! Even though the author was well thought out and very enjoyable, I struggled a little with the back and forth reading of the multiverse groups. Then trying to remember what happened in the previous chapter/subsection when the change occurs to another point of view. I love the worlds he creates and his characters in these awesome universes! My favorites were the Isonian Empire and The United Commons of Eurotopia, as these particular universes caught my fancy! I love the Utopian feel of the United Commons of Eurotopia, and how the exploration into the new chapter unravels! I enjoy and yearn for a relationship like Rashella and Cysoro have!! The getaway scene has definitely made my list of romantic settings! With the Isonian Empire, it was the way the author created drama between this AMAZING POWERFUL Queen and her relatives! The drama this universe creates has been around for centuries but it never gets old watching it unfold! The other universes are good as well as the characters, but these are the groups I wanted to keep getting to!
I am not typically a sci-fi reader as I find it very difficult for me to get into that genre. I took a big leap in reading this one, but I like to challenge myself on new reads and new authors. This one took me on a rollercoaster ride between learning about all the different worlds within this multiverse. The characters were wonderfully developed as well as each scenario described beautifully that I could picture them in my head.
It all starts with the characters hearing a mysterious voice inside their own head and in turn each discovering their own journey to figure out what the voice was talking about. This book makes you fall in love with some characters while despising others. Overall as you dive deeper into the lives of the characters will good win all or will the multiverse succumb to evil. You must read to find out and this is one journey you’ll be glad you took!
Have you ever heard of the wonderful, might magnificent Doctor Who? Well, in “Journeys Through Space Time” James Talisman takes you on wonderful, detailed trip that leaves you in awe. If you are a SciFi fanatic then this is the book for you. What’s the phrase you hear “Who you gonna call…..Ghost Buster? “Well in this case it’s Talisman in this scenario. It was very intriguing and kept you for a ride through each world, all intertwined by the same voice. I can’t lie when I say I didn’t try to see if I could skip ahead to get ahead of a certain part, just to find myself having to go back and read the part I skipped because it was a much needed part of the plot! Suspenseful! Please read it. I will be reading more books by this author. Do not skip about! It isn’t boring its exciting don’t rush it!
This book is a lot for me. I tend to enjoy fluffier, easy reads, which this is definitely NOT. It’s not a bad book, it just wasn’t really my style. However, if you like sci-fi/fantasy books with lots of world-building and many characters, you’ll definitely love this! It reminds me a bit of game of thrones, which is an amazing series but too complex and hard-to-follow for my to really get into and enjoy. Many other people love them though!
