Some books are what I call fluff writing. This is definitely not fluff writing. This is not a book that you will sit down and breeze through while distracted by your kids. It will draw you in and captivate you, but you need to pay attention. There are a lot of characters and changes, so you can’t just skim your way through. It is a fascinating read, and I look forward to more from James Talisman.
Be prepared to take notes because a ton of plotlines and different settings are involved. It took me a little time to get into the story. Soon though, I found myself getting emotionally invested with some key characters. The author’s strong suit is characterization. I connected with Cassius who’s going to defend the helpless, no matter the consequences. I saw myself so much in this character. Also, Hirisho was a favorite with his love of family. At the same time, the villains in the story are truly awful – like I can’t stand them with a passion. Some things reminded me of Star Wars. However, some of the dramatic elements reminded me of Lord of the Rings. Overall, a dramatic sci-fi that will introduce you to some new worlds and characters you love.
This book is not my normal genre, but I found it so intriguing! The author does a great job of bringing the reader in visually. As you are reading you can close your eyes and feel like you are right there. While I loved all the characters I would love to see them split into two books, it was hard for me to keep up with them all, but that is probably just a personal thing. Each character had a unique personality, no two were the same and I loved that there is nothing else out there like this book that I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to read more from this author and see how they grow. I found it hard to believe this was a debut novel, because it was that well written. There is action, mystery, scenes that could be in a movie and even some romance. I immediately felt connected to a couple of the characters which always keeps me glued to a book and I couldn’t put this one down!
This is a sci-fi/fantasy in which there are multiple storylines following different characters in different universes, realities and timelines. Each is very different and draws on various ancient mythologies which I really enjoyed. Although confusing to follow, I appreciated having to engage more with the story. I also liked the world-building, which was extremely complex, although it was at times more descriptive and wordy than immersive. The ending was definitely action-packed, and the weaving of the story becomes clear in the way the end is tied up but leaves you wanting more.
