This author did a great job with the serious emotional journeys that Amber and Karen went on. She told the story of both women struggling in their lives and how they dealt with loss, love and life. This story was unique, well written and serious but humorous at times too. It is full of surprises and lots of twists and turns. It’s interesting the way the author has connected the two women’s lives on their journey in discovering themselves. The book not only takes you through the lives of Amber and Karen but it also gets the reader to think about their own lives and the journeys they are on. I really enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading more from Ms. Long.
Journey to the centre of myself a sublime five-star read. Andie M. long is a great writer, she writes with a passion and consideration for her characters, no matter how dumb, annoying and needy they are you still can’t help loving them a little.
This book is a journey of self-discovery for the two main characters Amber Stockley and Karen Louisa Owen, they are two women who have two life paths but those life paths seem to be crossing at several places.
Ambers husband Will’s best friend had a baby, and Will feels like it’s now time him and Amber have a baby, Amber thinks that they should leave it another year but doesn’t know how to tell him. She’s only a temp in her job, a job she feels guilty at having at times as the previous person was made redundant, after a lot of years working there when there was a companywide restructuring. But after a drunken night out she impulsively agrees that maybe the time is right. The only problem is all is not what it seems in her life, and a baby may not be the thing she needs most.
Karen isn’t having the best of times, she has been made redundant, her marriage to husband Adrian seems to be on the rocks, she finds herself on a plane to Berlin to find herself and finds bad weather, delays and a tiny hotel room instead. Once she arrives in Berlin she finds something she hadn’t realised she needed. Sometimes you don’t know what you are running from until you have the space away to gain some perspective.
Both women face challenges, and the question is will they both manage to come out of the other side. Will a drunken kiss on a works do change their paths? Or will it make everything become clearer for both? Showing them both they need to make their own decisions?

I spend around twenty minutes perusing before buying myself a shopping bag with a chic French woman on it, as if I might become that person through osmosis.
Shh, you crazy cow. I love you. Not in that way because even if I was that way, you would be punching above your weight, but in the best mates way, I love you, you daft bat.
We spent our marriage starving each other of oxygen instead of encouraging each other to breathe.
Andi comes into the office before it’s time for us to leave with a face that looks like she’ll put a horse head on someone’s pillow.
It’s like I was a paper cut-out before, all think and white and plain, and then someone shook me and a chain of other Karen’s, other personalities, flowed out. They’re slowly being coloured in, decorated, gaining features of their own, yet can be folded back under the plain looking girl.
My Review:
Oh, that Andie M Long is a sly one. She tricked me – the clever minx! Journey to the Centre of Myself was absolutely brilliant. The writing was stellar and insightful, the characters were endearingly flawed and lovable, and the storyline was unique and well crafted. I thought I had it figured out and had been bracing myself for a big show down – and actually got several, just not the one I was expecting… it was even better. I adored the humor, heart squeezing inner musings, and dual POV. The writing was smart, insightful, amusing, and unfailingly entertaining. Ms. Long has mad skills!
