They only want what is best for Joshua—but disagree about what that is.When Dr. Sam Morgan’s estranged wife dies in a tragic accident, he returns home from a months-long, overseas surgical mission to discover his disabled son, Joshua, does not remember him. Sam is convinced that he and Joshua can only overcome their heartbreaking memories by leaving their decaying small town and starting over … and starting over somewhere else.
Nicole James runs a women’s shelter where Sam’s wife fled with Joshua, claiming Sam was not the saint he appeared to be, but a physical and mental abuser. Nicole is determined to protect Joshua by legally preventing Sam from leaving Golden Ridge with his son until she can get at the truth—is Sam Morgan an abuser or the victim of lies in a marriage that went terribly wrong?
As Sam and Nicole are forced to work together on Joshua’s behalf, they begin to gain a grudging respect for one another. But will mutual distrust prevent them from realizing that the best thing they can do for Joshua is to fall in love?
Award-winning author Olivia Rae brings another heartwarming story of forgiveness, acceptance, and a family restored.

Joshua’s Prayer is a unique inspirational story of a young boy with FAS and the struggle his father, Sam has to connect with him and Nicole, the woman, who cares for Joshua in his fahrer’s absence after his mother died. This is a heartwarming story of love, faith, and letting go of the past. I enjoyed the author’s engaging story about a very difficult topic and I felt she did a wonderful job with Joshua’s character. I fell in love with this little guy and loved how the two adults put him first and found an everlasting love built on faith and compromise.
4.5 Stars
Stellar writing with wonderful character and story development. Most of all, it had a strong faith thread that was woven into all aspects of the story. Although i was aware of this author’s historical novels, this was the first book that I had read. It impressed me enough that I want to seek more of her work and look forward to the next book in the Golden Ridge series.
Joshua’s Prayer is a wonderfully uplifting story full of family, love, and the complexities of life. Both Sam and Nicole struggle with their pasts, their faith, and what’s best for Joshua, Sam’s son who has AFS. Their love for Joshua, and mistrust of each other cause conflict between their thoughts and actions.
Can two people with hearts broken by circumstances learn to trust each other for the sake of a child? Does the need for trust run even deeper? Do they need to first learn to love and forgive themselves?
The pure love, and simple wisdom of one special boy could be the healing balm they both need.
This is an excellent heartwarming book. I recommend it.
A touching story of the love a father has for his son who doesn’t remember him, a caregiver who loves the little boy she cares for, and the love the child has for his caregiver. A truly heartwarming story that shows you can have hope even in the most desperate of times. Beautifully written and will have you laughing and crying throughout the story.

This is my first book by this author. It is a creative, well developed story about second chances. Sam has lost his wife and now he just wants to start over with his son somewhere else. Will he find a reason to stay? Great strong characters that support each other. They made me feel as if the story was real. I highly recommend this book.
Sam is an oral surgeon and missionary. When his estranged wife dies, he comes home to a son who doesn’t remember him. Joshua suffers from fetal alcohol syndrome, and is living in a shelter where his mother took him. She had told them stories about how abusive Sam had been to her, and the women who run the shelter believed her. Nicole is one of the founders, and a teacher at the preschool, and she doubts Sam’s motives when he shows up to take Joshua back. These two very stubborn people both think they know what’s best for Joshua, but they’re coming from different places, both filled with lots of heartache. They have to overcome their preconceived notions about each other in order to trust and work together. This was a wonderful story, but I spent a good part of the book not liking Nicole, her willingness to believe all that Vicky had told her, her consideration that she should go to social services to get her way with Joshua, her insistence that Sam should not have a say in where his son lives. These problems were eventually worked out. It truly is a story of finding a way back to faith.

This was the first book by Olivia Rae I have read. It was a heartwarming story of Sam, a widower, trying to reconnect to his young son after being apart for months. It deals with several serious issues yet still doesn’t get depressing. The strife between Sam and Nicole, his son’s caregiver, begins immediately. They have both been molded by painful experiences in their pasts which makes it seem they could never be compatible. Ms. Rae does a great job of showing how God can make a path even where it seems impossible. I was given a copy of this book by the author. This review is my own opinion.
Olivia Rae is a new author for me. I will be looking for more inspirational stories from her.
