This is another story of a brilliantly crafted mystery, that a strong willed heroin has had to solve, with the help of a troubled hero. The plot has some intriguing twists and turns. This book will suit all those that love clean historical romances that have a bit of suspense.
Couldn’t Suspend Disbelief
I have been reading this author’s books for over a year now, and in general, I have found her writing style has improved much over time. However, something just didn’t sit right with me with this book. I liked the heroine at first, as a widowed lady trying to figure out the cause of her husband’s death. She is certainly sympathetic at the start. The hero first comes across as our standard Regency rake. But things went sideways for me a little with this book when the heroine kidnaps the hero. It’s just hard to imagine a woman of those times doing something like that, and none of this particular heroine’s previously displayed traits gave an inkling that she was capable of this. I just couldn’t suspend my disbelief. If the author had gone another way with the story, I would have enjoyed the interplay between these characters. But that plot device just didn’t work for me and decreased my enjoyment of this book significantly. However, I have been impressed enough with her books lately that I will certainly continue to check them out.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
She kidnaps a gentleman to find the truth. After only a few months of being married to Lord Rutherford, he becomes sick and dies only days after being at a house party. The doctor suspects he was poisoned and Josephine is determined to find the culprit, but upon learning she is pregnant and having her son, she puts in on the back burner. But five years later she is ready to find her husband’s killer and when she asks all of the gentlemen who were at the party, Lord Farrington’s name comes up. So she kidnaps him and keeps him locked in a bedroom. This starts her deception as the veiled lady trying to get information from him. But what she learns is a plot more nefarious than she suspected, but Lord Farrington was not the killer, just duped. Now she needs his help to capture the real killer. ONE TUMULTUOUS WILD RIDE!!!
Outstanding! Joyce hit this baby out of the park laying down one refreshing out-of-the-box, frills, chills and spills, waxing poetic justice and finding the enemy, melding this gem together flawlessly. Chicanery runs rampant and intrigue is rife, noting the drama, turmoil, abduction, misgivings, mystery, spiraling suspense and intense situations, along with a boatload of trouble, you have one mind-blowing experience. Balancing the scale and bearing the weight, delivering one thrilling, pulse racing, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, page flipping dynamo, catapulting this baby to life beautifully. Lines blurred and boundaries crossed, limitations are amplified and exploited, throwing this gem into the eye of the storm, blowing it into a tizzy with an astonishing realization. Intertwined, combined and tightly woven, witnessing the soaring ups and agonizing downs, breathtaking in it’s simplicity and awe-inspiring in it’s depth, drawing our characters closer than they could have ever anticipated. The attraction and chemistry builds as each layer is peeled back exposing an endless emotions and growing bond, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters are complex and genuine with traits and qualities that add depth and diversity, transforming into charismatic personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions that feel as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Joyce, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Book three in the London Temptations series a well written story that held my interest until the end. Lady Josephine Rutherford is a woman of strong believes and wants to know what really happened to her deceased husband. I liked the kidnapping scene of Viscount Thomas Farrington. There is suspense, drama, danger, kidnapping of a man, one very evil man, and romance. I would recommend this book.
