Jonah Montgomery and Matt Garrett had it all: Army careers they loved; Team Panther, the men they bonded with as brothers, and each other. But under the shadow of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, everything fell apart when Matt was captured in Afghanistan. Now five years later, a terrorist seeking revenge has come for Jonah. Will Matt take the opportunity a sniper bullet provides? Can Team Panther find … Panther find their missing brother in time? Will they stand together or will the love they still have for each other falter under the weight of revenge?
Does their compass really point to true love?

I’m kind of torn about this one. I really wanted to love it as MM Military is one of my favorite tropes to read about. I loved that Jonah and Matt have a history and that this also is a second-chance romance. Another one of my favorites. This story is basically told from Jonah and Matt’s point of view, but also from some of the secondary characters’ point of view also. I didn’t have a hard time telling when the storyline was being told by one of them, but some might have a problem with it. My guess is that this was done to lay the groundwork for the other books in this series. I did think it was a bit long as I ended up putting it down and reading two other books before I finished this one, which is a good indicator for me that I’m not quite getting into it. I do have book two downloaded and I will read that one before deciding if I want to read any more books in this series. Judging by the reviews, there are a lot of people who enjoyed it so I do recommmend giving this one a try.
There’s a line in a Garth Brooks song…”when you’re free to love anyone you choose.” Matt and Jonah both Delta Force soldiers, didn’t have that freedom at least while they were still in the service. A slip of the tongue during a rescue ended both of their careers and eventually their relationship. Now, five years down the line, they have a second chance to rekindle their love. Or will they walk away again after getting closure.
Jonah is a big country star and someone has taken a hit out on him. They almost succeed. When Team Panther is reassembled along with BW security, in order to protect Jonah it becomes apparent it’s not just Jonah who is in the crosshairs. One of their own from Team Panther has been taken hostage in Afghanistan. It’s now up to the Team to plan and execute an extraction.
This is a good action packed evenly paced military, MM romance. Matt and Jonah’s love for each is poignant and captivating. All the characters are extremely likeable, funny, focused and interesting.
Love is Love! No matter who you are!
Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell! This is the rule that LGBTQ+ personnel used to abide in the military.
Jonah and Matt had been in a relationship for a few years when the unthinkable happened. Matt got captured during one of their missions and kept captive for four days before his team found and rescued him. In his relief and anguish, Jonah outed them both in front of their COs which led to them being court martialed. Matt hurt and left Jonah.
Jonah, not surprisingly, became a country singer. Matt joined a private security firm in order to move on. But neither had really moved on with their lives. Neither had been in contact with each other.
Now it seems like someone is out to get Jonah, and it is up to him, Matt and their old team to find out who and why. This is a trope I truly love, I love the action and the love story in it. Ms. Annabella Stone was able to incorporate missions, black ops, espionage, betrayal, friendship, camaraderie, love, funny moments and family in this story. My heart broke when Jonah and Matt had to go through what they did. But I think whta is important is that they found out what they truly meant to each other.
