Booth Pena definitely didn’t make the smartest of decisions when he was a teenager. At eighteen, he knocked a girl up and signed up for the military all in the same day—signing his life away in more ways than one. Fast forward six weeks and he’s in bootcamp learning that he’s going to be a father while also learning that not only is he going to be deployed, but it’s going to stay that way for a … way for a year.
There weren’t a lot of things that the baby’s mother and he saw eye to eye on after that. He honestly wasn’t sure why he even slept with her in the first place.
Okay, that last part is a lie. He knows exactly why he slept with her. Because the real woman he’s in love with, her twin sister, Dillan, won’t give him the time of day.
Five years later, and he still wants her.
Now he’s home for good, being the best father and police officer that he can be, and still he’s not good enough.
***
Dillan Davidsdottir hated Booth Pena. Immensely.
She hated him because he slept with her sister, then left. Granted, she knew that he hadn’t meant to leave like he did, unknowingly and unconsciously leaving his daughter behind, but that didn’t change the fact that he had.
Five years later, and she still dislikes him just as much now as she did when he chose the wrong sister to take to his bed.
Maybe if he’d chosen her, her heart wouldn’t be broken, and his wouldn’t be untouchable.
But when a SWAT officer sees his life flash before his eyes, and decides that enough is enough, what’s a girl to do?
Give in, that’s what.

No joke, my first words upon opening this book were “BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!” So I think that should explain the level of expectation I had going in to this book. I was excited And like Lani Lynn Vale always seems to do, she surpassed all my expectations with this book. Like, my expectations were chilling out around cloud height and Lani’s like “naaaaaaah” and soars to outer space with her super author cape waving behind her.
*I am fully aware I’m dramatic. Don’t care.
So I guess I should get serious here and stop rambling. I’ve been intrigued by the whole Booth/Dillan/Delanie/Bourne situation since it was first mentioned. Obviously that led to a whole lot of thinking and theorizing and I was 100% still not prepared for the reality of Booth and Dillan’s story. I’m also 100% not giving away any details so I’ll leave you with this
Interpret that how you will.
Dillan has got to be one of the most selfless and sweet heroines ever. Her sister sleeping with and then having a child with the man she loves would have destroyed most others, but not Dillan. She stood by them all despite her own pain. She didn’t turn bitter. She didn’t wallow. I freaking loved her.
Then Booth. That man. I swear going in I thought I’d want to spend a good chunk of my time holding a grudge against him, but I just couldn’t. Ultimately Booth is a good man, a good father, and head over heels in love with Dillan and that really shines even from the start.
Ahhh. Finally after not so subtle teasing from this author through this series, we finally have Booth Pena and Dillian Davidsdottir’s story.
Two sets of twins in love with eachother. The problem though.. is that they had a baby and not with the one they’re in love with.
Gasps everywhere right!. Talk about a freaking plot twist. Alas have no fear, Lani will not steer you wrong. Even if you doubt her for a small second. Hahaha.
I mean if there is ever a way to mess up a relationship before it even starts, it’s to sleep with your crushes sister. However that is not enough… no sir no ma’am. Just to add insult to injury you get her pregnant and leave for deployment. It’s a hot mess.
I’m calling it a love square. Bahaha. And yes I laughed at myself over that when I wrote my notes for my review. I mean, I think I’m hilarious and that’s all that matters.
Booth is the perfect blend of his parents but leans towards him momma’s nature with his sweet side.
He’s a good man. He did something wrong but out of that came the best gift of life so really was it so wrong?. Nope, his boy is a sweet treasure.
He took responsibility and stepped up despite his circumstances and the negative backlash. He’s devoted and for that I just loved him.
Dillian was butthurt and confused. I have to be honest she was way more forgiving and calm than I’d be for sure. I like that she was a realist though. She didn’t hide from her feelings or pretend they weren’t there. She’s a great sister and an even better auntie and for that alone she was a winner for me.
This isn’t what you think it’s going to be. Despite the circumstances I promise you Lani does not steer you wrong.
Booth and Dillian just fit together perfectly. The chemistry is explosive and the years of wanting just added to that already fiery connection. It’s not a slow burn. They fall together fairly quick and it made sense because of the years of neglected want between them. Them being a them was just right.
I love that with these stories not only do we get great character growth from the main characters. We also get a slew of crazy mad and interesting side characters both old a new that add so much life to an already bursting story. I can’t get enough of it.
It’s sweet and sensual and hilarious. It’s action packed, suspenseful and tension filled. I laughed like a looney, cried like a crazy person and fell in love hard with these characters. There are moments where I was like WTF. For real I was concerned about my blood pressure at times. This story takes you on a emotion rollercoaster you won’t be expecting and it will leave you rung dry and emotionally exhausted by the end. But it’s so worth it.
Now I just need the next book!. I have questions that need answered!. Lani Lynn Vale
This is the sixth book in the KDP SWAT 2.0 series. I couldn’t wait to read this and the next book, because it involves two sets of identical twins. Booth & Bourne and Dillan & Delanie. Plus, there’s an adorable kiddo, Asa.
Don’t worry, this isn’t a triangle (or a square), or even a swapping book. Yes, Asa is Booth and Delanie’s son. Yes, Booth has always wanted Dillan. No, I promise it isn’t anything with twins switching out. There is a lot more to why this happened. And how it happened. You will get the full story.
I think Bobo stole part of the story. I absolutely love this dog!
I hope we get closure with Dillan’s dad in the next book. He’s such a douche bag.
Kerrie got exactly what he deserved and it was awesome!
“I used to be cool. now a tiny person shows me his asshole to make sure that he cleaned the poop off well enough.”
Of all the books in this series I have been most hesitant of this one and the next one. Having been introduced to Booth and Dillon and Asa and Delaney and Bourne in previous books and knowing the bare basics of their story I had no idea how the author was going to address it.
Even having read the book and finding out all of the circumstances around baby Asa, I still can’t get my head around the whole Aunty / stepmum thing. But then in the next breathe, who cares? As long as everyone is happy and consenting who has the right to judge.
Anyway as I was saying. I wasn’t sure how Booth and Dillon could be together when he had had a child with Dillon’s sister. I was worried that someone’s feelings were going to be hurt or that there would be a drama around poor little Asa. But then everything came to light and I was so relieved.
There was a little bit of drama but none of it was relationship drama. And Delaney was just happy that her sister got the man she had been crushing on since she was a teenager. And the teasers for Delaney and Bourne made everything even sweeter. A few little things in regards to Asa were left unfinished but since it’s Delaney and Bourne’s story next I’m hoping we will get that resolved. And I can’t wait.
This is a tangled web we weave in this author’s latest story. Booth has always wanted Dillan but in the drunken night he slept with her twin sister Delanie and that produced lasting consequences but he wouldn’t trade Asa for the world. Both still want and need each other but can Dillan get over this perceived betrayal? All is not as it seems with the drunken night long ago. Will they be able to get to the bottom of it?
I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is Booth and Dillan’s story. Booth is a character we have watched grow up. He is Georgia and Nico’s son, one of the twins. At 18 he has a one night stand with the twin sister of the woman he has crushed on forever and gets her pregnant. Now it is 5 years later and he is out of the military and now back home to stay.
Dillan is a relatively newer character, she runs the donut store and is very close with her twin sister Delaney and 5 year old nephew. And she has always had a crush on Booth even though he thinks she hates him for having a one night stand with her sister and getting her pregnant.
To be honest I hate romances with exes of siblings HATE it!! And this is worse because they are twins. But I really could not wait for this story because it was Booth. I have watched him grow up and well I loved Nico and Georgia’s book and well I could not wait to hear the full story of how and why it happened.
Dillan wants Booth and Booth wants her but there is a third player here and he causes lotsa drama . Thats all I can really say about this story except that it was awesome. I LOVE Dillan and I loved Booth and I cannot wait for Delaney and Bournes story.
The author did an amazing job of what happened 5 years ago and why it occurred. I also have a small crush on Bourne and Booth’s little sister Bella, she was awesome in this book and she stole a few scenes away from Dillan.
Relationship status….complicated
Jokes on you is the next book in the second generation series and focuses on Booth and Dillan. This relationship or lack thereof is complicated due to the fact that Booth slept with Dillan’s sister, Delanie and has his child. However, Delanie is smitten with Booth’s twin brother Bourne and Dillan has been in love with Booth since they first saw each other…oh dear…like I said complicated
Loved Booth and Dillan, had a few very suspenseful scenes that got my blood pumping and I loved the insight into Bourne and Delanie and I’m already wishing it was July
Solid start then it waned a little bit for me.
So I know there is some outcry over the situation that Booth and Delanie find themselves in. But I felt that this book started strong with seeing the current status of what was going on and then eventually unraveling how that came to be.
Booth is a great dad. He regrets his actions, but who can regret the result which is adorable Asa.
I have to say that I can tell Lani Lynn Vale is a mom because there is a certain scene in this story that was so accurate I almost pulled a Booth in my car!
This one has some added drama…this is part of what pulled me away from the story and seemed unnecessary, but I still enjoyed Booth and Dillan as a couple.
Looking forward to Bourne’s and Delanie’s story – let’s hope they don’t string us along too long.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
Y’ALLLLLLL. I’ve been so curious for Booth & Dillan’s story since the beginning of the series! I was so excited to learn all the history between not only these two, but their twins as well.
I loved the chemistry. There was so much even when we got to look back and see how they handled what life threw at them. The added suspense of who tried to ruin their lives, and how it was continuing had me turning pages until the end!
I so loved these two and I’m honestly so excited to see how Bourne & Delanie handle their attraction next!!!
Jokes On You gives us the story that we have been anxiously waiting for, Booth and Dillan. Their story is emotional, passionate, witty and at times angsty. Two people who were always destined to be together need to make a decision, take the leap or forever wonder about what might have been. It is a story that will tug hard on your heart strings and bury deep into your soul. Booth and Dillan’s story is overflowing with love, romance and is sizzling hot. Theirs is a love story like no other and one that will leave you breathless and enamored.
Dillan and Booth. Gah! What a complex story! Dillan has secretly pined for Booth, but Booth got her identical twin pregnant before going off with the military. Things have been complicated since then. But Booth is back. He shares custody of Asa with Delaney and everyone gets along. Because of a particularly harrowing event with the SWAT team, Booth’s life flashes before his eyes. He decides he’s done waiting and pursues Dillan. They’re a very steamy couple! And I love Dillan’s little donut shop. (You really had me craving donuts!) Dillan’s father is a bad character. Dillan’s friend Kerry is out to win Dillan and he will stop at nothing to get her. Will Booth & sweet Dillan get to live happily ever after? Def grab up this book!
Joke’s on You kept things moving from the beginning. Lots of twists and turns, but in the end this story had me so “in love” with this series! Can’t wait for the next one, too! 4 stars
I’ve been looking forward to this book for months and it didn’t disappoint.
The back story of Dillan, Booth and Delanie has been eluded to for the last couple of books and it really piqued my interest to get to the bottom of this story.
This is not just a story of how two people work out their differences and their feelings en route to a happily ever after. There is so much more that you’ll discover as you read.
Joke’s On You is probably my favourite of KPD SWAT GENERATION 2.0 publications so far but I’m certainly interested what happens in ‘July’ and its offering to this charity calendar.
I was looking forward to this book! The Pena’s twin brothers love confusion with the twin Davidsdottir’s sisters are going to be pure combustion. This story has been on the back burner for so long a now we can finally see how they will work it out the several issues that this love story will bring.
Booth is a great guy, trying to do the right thing and loving his son with all his heart. He has the help of his parents and siblings, specially Bourne his twin brother. They have a complicate relationship with the Davidosttir sisters since Booth impregnated one and is in love with the other.
However, as always, Lani Lynn Vale tells a great and rock story of these characters and how they can finally get to the happy life they deserve.
I love this series and this book is so great that you will want to read it again!

(5 stars)
Booth and Dillan have loved each other for years but have never acted on it, mainly because of the fact that Booth and Delanie (Dillan’s twin) have a child together and it might be awkward especially as Bourne (Booth’s twin) and Delanie have the same unspoken love for each other but avoid it for the same reasons. Talk about complicated! Well, Booth isn’t waiting any more. One close call on one of the S.W.A.T calls has him rethinking his approach to life and change number one is Dillan; he’s not waiting for her anymore. All seems to be going well until things start to go wrong for Dillan and secrets are revealed that show someone has been messing with them for a lot longer than anyone even realised.
This was so good. I love this world and how we’re now getting the next gen stories. I can’t wait for Bourne and Delanie’s story next and give this 5 stars.

(4 stars)
So first and foremost, this is book six in a series. It’s not only a part of a series, it’s also a second gen story. For any of the characters to make sense, for any of the storyline to make sense, I do suggest reading the previous stories. Booth, Georgia and Nico’s son, made a mistake one night and that mistake gave him one of the best things in his life, his son, but it also cost him the girl of his dreams. Booth has wanted Dillan since the first time he saw her. Sleeping with her sister and then getting her pregnant sort of put the kibosh in that dream. Once Booth finished his time in the Army, he went back home to his family and more importantly his son. Now on the SWAT team, Booth is trying to navigate the world of working and being a co-parent. After a call that went a bit sideways, Booth is done waiting for Dillan, and has decided he is going to make her his. But has Dillan forgiven him? Will she be willing to give him a chance?
We have been teased with this story for a few books now, we knew it was coming and Booth and Dillan made a good story. With some good drama, danger, violence, and some hot naughty bits this was a good read, but for some reason this wasn’t the great awesome read that I normally get from her. I give this 4 stars.
So I have been waiting for the double twins stories since these books started. Their story was just so out there and I needed it! I am not disappointed. I love everything about Booth and Dillian. Honestly I thought she would give him a little more trouble before she gave in. I’m glad she didn’t. Now we just need Bourne and Delanie which I am glad to see is next up. Wonder what those have been up to, I bet it’s good! I really love all these characters. The books are fun quick reads with some great alpha males and headstrong woman who bring them to their knees. Nothing like seeing the alpha fall!
**I was generously provided with an advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review!**
I love these hot men of the Swat Generation 2.0 series and Joke’s on You is a perfect addition to the series! It has all the action and excitement that we expect from a Lani Lynn Vale book with the bonus of lots of steamy moments to make for an exciting, swoon worthy read!
This book feels a bit like a second chance romance to me even though Booth and Dillion never actually had anything beyond friendship before. They had been friends for years but have both skirted around their mutual attraction towards each other. One night five years earlier changed their lives but now they have their chance to finally take this relationship where they both want it to go. But first Booth and the Swat team have to take care of the menace threatening Dillion.
I have to say that I was a bit skeptical about how LLV would pull off the whole Booth getting Delanie pregnant thing, but come to find out when you actually read this book, it works. I love the way she intertwines the characters, and reveals all the crap that they were put through when they were just kids. Yes, it seems that Booth and Dillan were destined to be apart from the beginning, but when you throw in a crazy ass man, a domineering father and circumstances that were beyond their control, it works out in the end. Don’t forget all of the natural hysterics from Lani and you’ve got a perfect book. LOVE this series!
This is the 6th book in this phenomenal series and is Booth and Dillan’s story. These two have loves each other for years but then Booth made the biggest mistake of his life by sleeping with her twin sister who end up pregnant. Now 5-years later he is back and is determined to get his girl back no matter what. This is a beautifully written story which is filled with secrets, drama, violence, and love. I was totally captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more form this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.
I’m slowly getting addicted to this authors books They read so quickly and that’s not to the detriment of plot, steam or drama.
Which by the way this book is full of. The complicated relationships between Booth, Delaine, Bourne and Dillan were catnip for me. This kind of drama is EVERYTHING. Yes, it’s super messy and complicated but so is life. And I loved Asa, he was the best!!
I recieved an ARC of this on behalf of the author and I volunteered to leave an unbiased review.
Complicated life, complicated love…
Oh wow – was the relationship between Booth and Dillan uber-awkward! After a crazy incident, an unexpected pregnancy, military duty and five years of life, the two were back together again. To sort and figure out what happened, or at least make more sense of it, and work out what they were going to do next…
I loved this drama-filled, wild ride of family of love! They’d had feelings for each other, or at least a spark, but before they could do anything about it, the incident happened. How it all went down and what happened afterward was reality of the soapiest extreme. And all of it was entertaining to the nth degree! Booth struggling to connect with his son – and doing a bang up job of it, and Dillan as the favourite aunt, with a loving hand for her nephew and a snarky comment for his father… So much to smile and laugh about even when the moments of seriousness snuck in.
Another chaotic, emotion-filled romance with characters that you don’t want to let go of…
