Booth Pena definitely didn’t make the smartest of decisions when he was a teenager. At eighteen, he knocked a girl up and signed up for the military all in the same day—signing his life away in more ways than one. Fast forward six weeks and he’s in bootcamp learning that he’s going to be a father while also learning that not only is he going to be deployed, but it’s going to stay that way for a … way for a year.
There weren’t a lot of things that the baby’s mother and he saw eye to eye on after that. He honestly wasn’t sure why he even slept with her in the first place.
Okay, that last part is a lie. He knows exactly why he slept with her. Because the real woman he’s in love with, her twin sister, Dillan, won’t give him the time of day.
Five years later, and he still wants her.
Now he’s home for good, being the best father and police officer that he can be, and still he’s not good enough.
***
Dillan Davidsdottir hated Booth Pena. Immensely.
She hated him because he slept with her sister, then left. Granted, she knew that he hadn’t meant to leave like he did, unknowingly and unconsciously leaving his daughter behind, but that didn’t change the fact that he had.
Five years later, and she still dislikes him just as much now as she did when he chose the wrong sister to take to his bed.
Maybe if he’d chosen her, her heart wouldn’t be broken, and his wouldn’t be untouchable.
But when a SWAT officer sees his life flash before his eyes, and decides that enough is enough, what’s a girl to do?
Give in, that’s what.

I’ve been waiting to hear the real deal between Booth and Dillan ever since I read subtle hints about their situation in other books. I went into this story with fear and trepidation. I had a feeling that LLV would make me feel better, but I didn’t know how. Why? Because their situation was the hottest of hot messes and I couldn’t figure out how anyone could move on from it.
The situation: Booth has a twin brother, Bourne. Dillan has a twin sister, Delanie. Booth always liked Dillan and Dillan always liked Booth. Bourne always liked Delanie and Delanie always liked Bourne. And then Booth slept with Delanie and they had a baby. See what I’m saying about a hot mess?
Delanie had the baby while Booth was deployed and so his family stepped up. There was never a moment of his life that young Asa didn’t know he was loved. From his mother and aunt to his uncle Bourne, his papa Nico, his grandma Georgia, their other kids, and all the friends that make up the family that love and adore each other. Everyone helps out and works together. Honestly, it’s a thing of beauty!
Fast forward and Booth’s co-parenting with Delanie, working as a KPD Swat Officer. After a near death experience, he decides he’s done punishing himself. He’s wanted Dillan from the moment he saw her and he’s going to have her. When Dillan gives him the go-ahead, it’s a quick ride to a happy ending… they just have to deal with the murderous intentions of a spurned lover first.
As always, I enjoyed myself. LLV has a way of writing stories that give a strong sense of comfort. Her characters are relatable and, for the most part, easy to love and I definitely loved Booth and Dillan. And now I’m patiently waiting for the flip side – Bourne & Delanie are next!
You did it again Lani Lynn Vale, although this one was a little bit different from you but it was done extremely well written and I loved it.
Loved this book, I have already read it twice. LLV does it again.
I could not wait for this book. I just love Booth’s dad Nico!!! It was great to finally find out how Booth became a dad at such a young age and who exactly Dillian is. These two had me laughing so much from chapter 1. And I just loved Booths son Asa. You have to read this book it won’t disappoint. Don’t worry there some good crazy drama that’ll have you laughing at the end.
I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about this book going into because of the history between the twin men and the twin women. Sometimes love triangles like this tend to make me cringe. However, I should NEVER HAVE DOUBTED Lani Lynn Vale because she nailed it in the BEST WAY! I loved how we found out the how’s and why’s of what happened in the past and I adored the love that these two shared. Of course, the suspense was off the chain and now I can’t wait for the next book! This is a must read!
I wasn’t sure about this book when I first read the blurb, Dillon having a baby with Delanie but loving her twin Dillon, Delanie loving his twin Bourne. Oh, but I should have had faith in Lani Lynn Vale because she pulled it off masterfully. It was awesome. Their relationships get explained, the circumstances get explained, the bad guys get unmasked, and there is a wonderful HEA. I went from unsure to loving this book!!
Another great installment of the SWAT 2.0 Generation series. It was filled with mild-angst, forced-to-pull-out-the-fan sex scenes, heroic dogs, fan favorite characters & those stupid, who-the-f*ck-do-you-think-you-are bad guys!
Have to say I was nervous going into this one because I’m not a fan of sisters having slept with the same guy; especially when that guy is the Hero of the book. I understand that other factors were in play in this particular situation but I don’t think I can ever totally get those “pissed, eww” thoughts fully out of my mind. #dammit THAT SAID & off of my chest…
I ADORED Booth & Dillan together. They were always meant to be, so I was over-the-moon happy when they chose to go for it & put themselves first for once. I was madly in love with the fact that they only had eyes for one another because that made their chemistry even HOTTER!
Booth… Everything about this man was sexy. His love for Asa, his determination, him initiating those sexual fantasy scenes in the donut shop & the one after reading Dillan’s book… Such a *le sigh* kind of guy. Loved his excitement over the surprise news he & Dillan received towards the end of the book. I only wish we got Asa’s reaction to it (not to mention to the nuptials, too) because I bet it was frickin’ hilarious!
Dillan… She was a strong, hard-working, kind, accepting woman with a beautiful heart. I can’t fault her for the way she reacted to the Booth/Delanie situation in the past. Unlike Bourne, I don’t think she d*cked Booth around. Like ever. I sympathized with her & understood why she was upset & why she wouldn’t want to talk about what actually happened. *shrugs* Loved her to bits & thought her scenes with Belle, Booth’s sister, were so sweet & funny!
Huge shout-out to Bobo for having Dillan’s back TWICE! Such a savior, especially in that second scene. And what Booth did to “clean up” the mess… Woot-woot! #BurnBabyBurn
Excited to get my hands on the next book in the series, Join the Club, featuring Bourne & Delanie! It’s still an awkward as heck situation but if their brother & sister can push that aside for love, then so can they!!
Side Note: So, about Malachi & this pregnant, young receptionist lady…
I was dying to read this book! I was intrigued about twin sisters Dillan and Delanie being in love with twin brothers Booth and Bourne. Dillan fell for Booth and Delanie fell for Bourne. However, one crazy night, after a fight with her father, Delanie got drunk and had sex with Booth and ended up pregnant. Booth learned he was going to be a father while deployed, with five more years still to go. When his baby Asa was born, he only had thirty-six hours with his baby, and he asked Bourne to be there for his son while he finished his assignment.
Fast forward five years, and Booth is working in the Kilgore Swat team. He and Bourne are part of the second generation of the Swat team men. So there are uncles, fathers, cousins and lifetime friends involved in this story, which is what makes it so memorable. Booth and Bourne’s father is Nico, who is Ace Valentine’s brother in law. It makes for such a convoluted connection but I love it!
For the last five years, Dillan has been in Booth’s life but only in the fringes. She’s been keeping distance from him because of the situation. Poor Delanie feels bad that she and Asa are the cause for Dillan not having her HEA with Booth. Delanie and Booth have a great relation parenting their son, but there is no love there, just friendship. Meanwhile, Bourne has always been involved with Asa, playing advocate for his brother while he was deployed. Likewise, Bourne keeps his distance from both Dillan and Delanie, but he’s brusque with Dillan especially, as if he doesn’t like her. Read the book to learn why!
When Dillan learns that Booth was involved in a bad Swat situation, she’s scared off her wits, worried about him. Even though she sees him after the situation, she’s still out of sorts. She’s realized that she’s not living the life she wants, and that her heartbreak happens because she let it happen. Her sister is not keeping her away from Booth, she is. And suddenly, she changed her mind….
I loved this story because I love all the characters in Lani Lynn Vale’s world. These two had a hard time for the past five years, heartbreak on Dillan’s part, because Booth went to bed with the wrong sister, by accident, resignation on Booth’s part. Many situations occur, a mystery related to Booth’s and Delanie’s night comes to light, Delanie’s and Dillan’s father causes a lot of problems and a flame from Dillan’s past comes to cause many problems.
As with all Lani Lynn Vale’s stories, there are heartwarming moments of loving family life, funny moments with Asa who is a brilliant little boy, steamy moments between Dillan and Booth, and the usual appearance of several of the Kilgore police, firemen, Swat men, mothers, and other related persons. Even Ace Valentine makes an appearance! I loved it all and was hugely entertained. I hope next book is Bourne because I can’t wait to read his story!
One half of the couple we’ve been waiting for! After getting the premise of this story (and the next) from the previous books, I couldn’t wait to see how things panned out after the mess of a situation between these sets of twins. Booth has always had feelings for Dillan, but somehow ended up in bed with her twin sister and that resulted in a child, linking them together forever. Dillan has always had feelings for Booth, but after he has a child with her sister, she’s resulted herself to never being with him. But after Booth returns from the service, he has finally decided to go after her, especially with the understanding that her sister is in love with his brother. As their relationship starts, they start to dig into what really happened all those years ago and realize that it has to do with Dillan’s father and her friend, and the more they find out the crazier the story becomes. I was on the edge of my seat reading and finding out along with Booth and Dillan what really happened and my mind was blown! In the end, the climactic situation was as epic as I anticipated, and Booth does everything in his power to save Dillan. I loved every aspect of this book, and I cannot wait to see what happens between the Bourne and Delaine!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Jokes on You is the sixth title in the SWAT Generations 2.0 series, featuring Booth Pena and Dillan Davisdottir. Booth Pena is the son of Nico and Georgia who were featured in Double Tap.
Booth and Delanie have a child after on night together. There are quite a few questions surrounding the night of Asa’s conception as neither party recalls the events of the night.
To make matters more complicated Booth is inexplicably drawn to Delaine’s twin sister Dillan, and has had feelings for her since his teenage years.
This title is a complicated, suspenseful and dramatic story full of twists and turns. I honestly wasn’t sure how I would feel about this quadrilateral relationship, but Dillan is difficult not to like. She’s kind, caring, sassy, and strong willed, but also compassionate. Booth is a hard working single father who dotes on his young son, and is not afraid to go after what he wants.
At times I did struggle to keep it straight in my head of who was who and who was attracted to who. Their name being Booth and Bourne and Delanie and Dillan did make it difficult at times to keep up.
Now that I’ve read Booth and Dillan’s story, I’m looking forward to Delanie and Bourne’s.
They always tell you never to judge a book by the cover – well I going to tell you, never to judge a book by its blurb.
Booth Pena has always had a thing for Dillan Davidsdottir but one night he slept with her twin sister Delanie and the results were his son, Asa. Five years later, Booth is ready to make Dillan his. But is Dillan ready for Booth?
Warning – you will crave donuts after reading this book LOL!!
As this is the 6th book in the series we know that Lani always has some type of investigation going on during her books. This one has some twists and I can’t wait to read the Join the Club to see what will happen between Bourne and Delanie.
If you get past the “family” dynamics between all the characters involved. This story is cute, witty, fun, and a little bit crazy. I liked both Booth and Dillon, their chemistry is fantastic. I enjoyed this book.
Being a fan of the rest of the books in the SWAT Generation 2.0 Series Joke’s On You has been one of my most anticipated reads! As soon as I reached the end of May Contain Wine I started counting down the days for this one! I picked it up right away and I had to finish reading it in one sitting. I really enjoyed it!
Booth and Dillan’s journey was quite the unique one! I’ve been looking forward to Booth’s story for quite some time now and I’m so glad that I finally got to get into his mind! Same with Dillan! I wasn’t sure what all was going to happen with these two.
I enjoyed Booth and Dillan’s chemistry and they sure made me blush! I felt so many different things with them as well. I adored Booth’s son Asa and what he brought to the story!
Ms.Vale has created another great read with Joke’s On You! I can’t wait for Bourne’s book Join The Club to be released next month!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
Joke’s on You by Lani Lynn Vale is the sixth book in her latest series, SWAT Generation 2.0 . Continuing with the stars of the SWAT Calendar shoot, meet the month of June – also known as Booth Pena. A dedicated father who has overcome some rocky issues and is putting his best foot forward despite the fact that he has a child with the twin sister of the woman he’s been head over heels for since her first laid eyes on her in grade school. Dillan Davidsdottir has loved and hated Booth equally since the night he got her twin sister pregnant. But five years later the hate has lessened and the love is still there, unrequited, unannounced and ready to burst.
A story that is hot and steamy and handles the complications of these two sets of twins, Booth & Bourne and Dillan & Delanie, the complications their relationship could cause and the fact that despite the intervention of some really sinister and twisted people, true love and fate prevails. Loved It. Devoured it! Enjoy!

I have been anxiously awaiting the stories of Booth, Bourne, Dillon and Delanie, wondering how in the world LLV would pull this off. I shouldn’t have been worried, because as usual, she blew me away. After a near fatal call, Booth decides enough is enough and goes after what he wants…Dillon. He’s determined to make her his and show her that he loves her and the night he did the unthinkable (slept with her sister), he thought it was her. As with all LLV books, there’s always so much more to the story than meets the eye and Jokes on You is no exception. I know some people will never get over the fact that he slept with her sister and the woman his brother is in love with, but if you give the book a chance, all that is explained and makes total sense. And I think it’s great how they co-parent. Let’s be honest for a minute. There are so many kids that are torn apart from their parents not getting along and using them as pawns to get what they want from the other parent. So, even though Booth and Delanie never had a relationship, I commend them on their co-parenting.
I may be in the minority on this book, but I don’t care. I loved everything about it. It’s got all my favorite LLV elements and that’s all that matters to me. It’s got tons of love, laughter, and that edge of suspense I crave from her books. I cannot wait for Bourne and Delanie’s book! I need the whole twisted story.

Forbidden love unleashed! Book six in the KPD SWAT Generation 2.0 series has Lani Lynn Vale tempting her readers with Booth and Dillan’s love story in JOKES ON YOU. It was fast paced and delicious to devour while that hint of intrigue kept us on our toes. I wanted more dramatics and justice based on the secrets we uncover, but overall it was a solid read and has me hungry for Bourne and Delanie’s story.
Booth Pena is easy to fall for as a character. He’s alpha but not in an “in your face” way, he adores his son, and he just can’t let go of the love he’s felt for years. Watching him finally reach out and grab for it after a scary incident is so satisfying!
Dillan Davidsdottir is easy to like as well. She’s kind and accomplished and does anything she can for someone she loves on a regular basis. She’s been fighting her feelings for so many years that now that they’re all coming to the surface, it seems so easy to just be.
I recommend this book and the series as a whole to anyone who loves a close-knit group of cops who go after love and family with everything they’ve got. There’s quite a connection of friendship, brotherhood and love in every book.
Booth is just trying to live his life – be the best dad he can to his son Asa, the best SWAT officer he can, and get through life knowing he can never have the woman he’s always wanted, who happens to be his son’s mother’s sister. Talk about a clusterfuck of epic proportions.
Dillan’s rightly upset that Booth got her sister pregnant, considering she is the one who has feelings for him, not her sister. So they all just go about their lives, being Asa’s family and trying to deal with their complicated history as best as possible. It’s not possible for Dillan and Booth to be together. Or is it?
I have to admit that I was leery of this story before I read it, wondering how two sets of twins could be in love with each other when the wrong two had a child together. But I shouldn’t have worried, because Vale has a deft hand, and managed the situation with ease. Well, with drama of course, but it flowed seamlessly and Booth and Dillan were able to get the happiness they fought so hard for. I really liked their story and the two of them both individually and as a couple. And of course little Asa, who stole the show with his precocious nature and every single hilarious word that came out of his mouth. There’s some suspense and action, and some serious sexy times – all in all, another great story in this SWAT series.
Love this series! Can’t wait for more. Love revisiting old
Characters. Couldn’t put it down.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Booth Pena definitely didn’t make the smartest decision when he was a teenager. This is the story of Booth and Dillan. Booth and Dillan both are identical twins. Delaney and Bourne. Booth has had a thing for Dillan since she first came to town and he laid eyes on her, however a night that was a huge mistake and neither remember has Delaney and Booth sleeping together and that produces a child that he doesn’t know a thing about until he gets a letter in boot camp that he is about to be a father and he knows that his chances with Dillan are ruined but he is so excited to be a father. He however never expects to be shipped off over seas so soon and he misses basically the first five years of his son Asa’s life only seeing him on short visits and Skype calls. Now he is home, being a great father to his son Asa and a member of the SWAT team. However one day and a news story has Dillan flying to Booths door and he has decided that after nearly dying he isn’t letting Dillan get away . I really loved this story. Don’t let the fact that he slept with the woman he loves sister and had a baby make you not pick this book up. There is a villain in the book who has done some very bad things and is obsessed with Dillan. Her father too has to be on of the most awful people on earth. He does things to these these girls that make you think he is living way way back in the era of arranged marriages and such and he is all about him and what can get out of life. I would like to have hit him up the side of his head. I did however fall in love with Dillan, Delaney, Booth and Bourne and of course Asa. He is the sweetest and a super smart little man. I so hope that the next book is about Bourne and Delaney. I want there story like now!!!!
Joke’s On You is Book 5 in Swat Next Generation 2.0 by Lani Lynn Vale.
Get ready for the drama-rama! This is the beginning of the Booth, Dillian, Bourne, Delanie drama. Joke’s on You is Booth and Dillian’s story. Booth and Dillian had crushes on each other back but 5 years before, he made a mistake and slept with Dillian’s twin sister, Delanie. Out of that came his son. Fast forward to now, Booth is ready to start pursuing Dillian and show her that he has never gave up on his feelings for her.
It’s a great story where we get the first half of the story from the couples involved. The storyline is a bit unconventional yet it worked. It’s sizzling, intense, angsty, hot, sweet, and interesting. I do think the ending is rushed and would have liked if there was a bit more but otherwise, good plot, great characters and amazing writing. I can’t wait for Delanie and Bourne’s story next.
My Rating: 4.5 stars ********
