A return to Cliffside Bay is always delightful to me. It’s a small town on the California coastline where everyone seems to know each other. This time we get to find out more about Nico and Sophie and how their lives intertwine as they get to know each other better. This may be my new favorite couple in the series so far!
This was a real page turner for me and had me staying up late into the night to find out what would happen next! Tess Thompsons books always do this to me, good thing I’m retired so that I can sleep in the next day. This is the ninth book in the Cliffside Bay series. It can be read as a stand alone book because she does such a great job of keeping everyone up to date. However, I would strongly recommend reading the series in order to get a better understanding of all of the couples, how they know each other and became friends. You’ll be very happy if you did. I strongly recommend this book and gave it a big 5 stars!
Thank you to the author and publisher for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Jilted by Tess Thompson
Another love story masterfully told by Tess Thompson. The reader is once again taken to Cliffside Bay to witness the love between Sophie and Nico. Love is ageless, but this concept has yet to take hold in Nico who continues to fight against himself and his feelings for Sophie. Sophie is an old soul and is wise beyond her years. Nico was betrayed, both by his parents and a past love, which leaves him feeling like no one can love him.
The love between Nico and Sophie is almost palpable. Everyone in town can feel it. Why is Nico so desperately trying to deny it? His actions alone are a testament to his love for Sophie. When will he be willing to acknowledge to himself what everyone else already knows?
Journey to Cliffside Bay where Nico and Sophie’s story is finally told through the brilliant writing of Tess Thompson.

Nicely written. Too much sexual content for my taste. I normally like everything written by Ms. Thompson, so I was a little disappointed.
Sophie has been in love with Nico since the moment she laid eyes on him. Nico thought she was the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen BUT she was too young. He’s 12 years older than her. Their age difference never stopped Sophie but it did stop Nico. What she didn’t know was that he had also fallen for her but his past relationship left a bad taste that he no longer believed in them. When something happens that he almost loses Sophie he gave it his all and put things aside. Sophie was also very persistence, lol. They were cute together and deserve each other.
Jilted is love in it’s purest form. Raw, unpredictable, haunting and fierce. Buried inside the impossible resides the courage to make the impossible, a reality. Jilted is the joining of two deeply wounded hearts, despite the odds. Heartache has never hurt so good. Nico and Sophie delve deep into the soul and leave a gaping wound where the heart should be. It’s a messy kind of pain littered with some ugly cry moments, but Thompson never ceases to mend the wounds she inflicts. For within the tragedy of life is a salve known as love and that makes the heartache worth every tear.
The fact that Nico made me want to choke him sometimes had to be the first line of my review. I can’t believe this author turned me against him in my thoughts! Dang it this was a hard read. I have loved all of the books and this one just about broke my heart. These two have faced so much, Sophie in her short life has had to make some tough decisions. Nico on the other hand has experienced rejection, heartache and some major surprises that leave him floundering and drowning. The love and interference of a sweet, mostly salty old woman keep these two on their toes. It’s a great addition to the series with some serious emotional tagging along with some laughs. It wouldn’t be a Cliffside Bay book if it didn’t. Run into some old friends along with a little suspense and it’s a read that will attack all of the feels this author enjoys twisting up. It’s a goodie.
Jilted is the love story of Nico and Sophie in Tess Thompson’s latest installment in the Cliffside Bay series.
Sophie is young, but an old soul that knows Nico is the man she is supposed to be with. Nico is deeply in love with Sophie, but has deemed himself unacceptable for her because he feels he has nothing to offer her not to mention he feels she is inexperienced with relationships, innocent, and younger than him. Sophie does not give up on the man she loves and knows she will marry.
This book, as with all the Cliffside Bay books, will draw you in from the first page and will have you go through every emotion, but has the happy ending you hope for.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review
Do you believe in premonitions. Young Sophie does when she dreams of the handsome man she will marry complete with a cute puppy. Sophie a believer in true love is sure that man is Cliffside Bay landscaper Nico. He is equally determined to stay away from the much younger Sophie.
When a fire break out in The Oar, which
Sophie owns a part of, Nico rescues Sophie from her upstairs apartment. The reader is drawn into their relationship as Sophie is determined to make Nico see his true value, and make him fall in love with her
From the time Sophie was eight-years-old, she dreamt about who her soulmate was going to be. She recognized him as soon as she laid eyes on him. Nico. Now the challenge was to overcome the reservations and doubts he seemed to live with and carry. To convince him they belonged together. Is she able to cross the age barrier reasoning he’s put up? She is an “old soul” and goes after what she wants. She is impulsive and driven, has no doubts and knows what she wants. And she loves and wants Nico.
Nico’s been jilted and it’s stingingly painful. He’s afraid to put himself “out there” to be possibly rejected again. Just like he’s been all his life. But who can resist the “warrior princess and gorgeous Sophie”? He was going to have to be strong and determined to not give in to her but is it possible? In his mind, he’s not good enough for her. She deserves better that him. Oh, but how hard to resist her!
Ms. Thompson has once again taken me back to Cliffside Bay and drawn me into the pages of a story that is filled with wonderful characters. The story of Nico and Sophie brings with it unexpected surprises, drama, heartbreak and doubts. It’s also filled with hope, excitement, love and some spiciness that warms you up. Ms. Thompson’s writing brings all these things together in her storytelling talent in a book I couldn’t put down. Then she brings in two characters I absolutely loved. Jen…the cutest little pup that won my heart along with Nico’s. “Dogs made everything better…..dogs love unconditionally.” I love dogs in books and Jen is perfect. And then there’s Mrs. Coventry. She’s an elderly, sprightly lady who sees that Nico and Sophie belong together. She has a plan to accomplish this and isn’t afraid to set it in motion. She’s full of energy and humor. She is such a fun character.
I love going to Cliffside Bay each time a new novel comes out in the series. Tess Thompson writes with such heart and soul that it emits from the characters. They have become a part of me and visiting, reconnecting and going deeper with new characters makes this series a fantastic read for me.
I am honored to have read Tess Thompson’s Jilted: Nico and Sophie. I loved everything about the endeavor of Sophie and Nico to find their HOA. It pulled at my heart. I love going to Cliffside Bay and spending time there….and I’m excited for the next book in the series. Thank you, Ms. Thompson, for this wonderful read!
All opinions and thoughts in this review are my own.
This is another beautiful and intensely emotional romance in this wonderful series. Nico and Sophie’s slow-burn story delivers a boatload of feels as this age gap romance unfolds. I loved both of these characters and they each touched my heart in their own way. Sophie was strong, sweet and genuine. Nico was terribly wounded and my heart bled for him. His fears were realistic and relatable. This was quite simply a immensely enjoyable read.
I’ve wanted Sophie’s story ever since we learned about this sweet girl. Her personal story is just so amazing that I wanted her to have an equally amazing HEA as well. Enter Nico. He is broken, battered, and just trying to survive. He has a great group of friends and an amazing job that he loves. However life has left him fighting his inner demons alone for way to long. He doesn’t believe he is good enough for the awesome that is Sophie. Poor girl has the fight of her life before her. But she’s not willing to give up, no matter what tragedy comes at her and I love her for that. With this book we face the sad ending of decades of blood, sweat, and memories. We get an overly over protective brother, and we get to learn more about the man Hugh Shaw really was. His journal entries were so full of love. I hated watching Nico fight his feelings, but in a sense I understood. With that said, I’m so glad Sophie didn’t give up on him and that these two got their HEA. Oh and I loved meeting Judi!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
Another great story from Tess Thompson and her Cliffside Bay series – about people in a small coastal California town that makes me want to pack up & move! This is Sophie & Nico’s Story, with enough references to previous couples in the series to delight Tess’s long-time fans and make new readers want to go back and grab those books too. Sophie is “old” for her 22 years, and knows with a fierce certainty that 34 year old Nico is her soulmate. He takes a lot longer to get over their age difference, her protective older brother & his own romantic history. I loved these characters and think the world would be a much better place with more Sophies in it! Buy the book, I think you’ll enjoy this story.
I absolutely love this series by Tess, I never want it to end! 5 stars for this one!
Sophie has been in love with Nico since she met him. She know’s hes the one and though twelve years separates their age, she doesn’t care. But Nico is resistant to their pairing, she’s younger, she will leave him when she grows up more. Can she hang in there and convince Nico that they belong together?
Sit back and enjoy this one, if you haven’t read the other eight books, what are you waiting for, start now and fall in love with Cliffside Bay!
Tess Thompson did it again. Another sweet, page turning, making me cry, romantic story. I absolutely love Sophie’s character. She’s the sweetest person who is always trying to help people. She also knows and goes after what she wants. I love Nico’s character too. He was hurt in life from the people he loved. He tries so hard not to fall in love with Sophie because he doesn’t want to hurt or use her knowing he is a mess on the inside. Judi. Oh my I love her! She’s so feisty and hilarious! Thank you for this amazing and heartfelt story Tess!
Swooon I have be waiting for Sophie’s story for so long, and it did I not disappoint. The banter between Sophie and Nico the whole book was really cute. And the new character Judi was delight. I was busy reading along and turned the page and it said , The End, I couldn’t believe it. Maybe we will learn more at the wedding. Can’t wait. Highly recommended.
I know many reviews for books use the term “page-turner” but I. Literally. Could. Not. Put. This. Book. Down. This is definitely competing for my favorite in the series. Sophie is so loving and pure and Nico has been through so much…it’s, of course, a perfect match. I love how Tess Thompson wove together their story with Hugh and his past. And I love how he guides her still. Also, Judi! I’m in love with her and I hope we see more of her. I highly recommend this book but it will mean much more to start from the beginning of the series.
This is Sophie’s story of second chances – one of rebuilding her life as well as her livelihood. It’s a story of unconditional love, with an element of suspense. The author, Tess Thompson, paints a beautiful ‘word picture’ of the coastal shoreline of Cliffside Bay, as well as the streets of Paris. It leaves me wanting more……a good thing! I see a sequel coming in the future!
I received a copy of this book to give my honest opinion.
So much to love in this beautiful romance!
Nico is so broken from having been jilted, he’s oblivious to the fact that he’s more than ready to move on. He has a laundry list of reasons why he doesn’t think Sophie is the woman for him, but his path of gradual self-discovery eventually leads him to the truth about what his heart believes, and what he needs to do to find healing.
Along with this tortuously-slow romance, we get much more of Sophie’s history and letters from her late father, a catastrophic event that forces her to rethink all her priorities, a growing mystery that threatens various members of their tight-knit community, and a gut-wrenching reconciliation for one family that was long overdue.
As with all the Cliffside books, this story gives us a fully immersive look at the hearts and lives of the local residents. This is an amazing series, and though each book is its own standalone romance, each book builds on the previous stories to create a truly unique literary experience. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Grateful to the author and publisher for an AR of this book. Book 9 in the series so these characters are like my family and friends. I have loved each and every one. Thank you again Tess Thompson for writing such beautiful books Finally Sophie and Nico ! Sophie has been through so much and Nico has been rejected by everyone he has ever loved. Can Sophie convince him that that age difference is irrelevant and they are meant to be ? You will laugh and you will cry. And if you don’t want to move to Cliffside Bay, well there is something wrong with you ! Get the book ! It is a gem !
