Jilted was Sawyer Bennett’s second book in the Love Hurts series. I’m a total sucker for second chances so I found it enjoyable and entertaining.
Eden Goodnight was a famous A list actress. She was raised in Newberry, Ga but hadn’t been back in fourteen years, except once, after she left to launch a successful modeling and acting career. She had nothing in Newberry except the vague memories of a love left behind at eighteen. After experiencing a very public and humiliating break up, she decided to hide out in her small home town, only to discover things weren’t as they seemed.
Cooper Mayfield was the gorgeous entrepreneur in Newberry. Eden was his first young love, but they’ve both moved on since parting ways in college. He was well respected by everyone, even though he avoided relationships and was dubbed the town’s playboy.
When Eden returned home, Cooper was the first person her path crossed. They didn’t exactly hit it off and the drama started. Bennett scripted an entertaining plot that unraveled misunderstandings and forged new beginnings, leaving the old behind while starting fresh.
Jilted was a nice edition to the series, a quick read and a fresh perspective on life in a glass house. The next book in the series hasn’t been announced yet, but I have high hopes.
I love Sawyer Bennett’s books! This one was funny and witty. Great story! I loved the characters and the storyline was engaging and fun.
(4.5 stars)
I’m a sucker for second chance romances and Jilted delivers. I could hardly put it down because I was dying to see what would happen next. Eden and Coop were young and in love. But when she gets an opportunity of a lifetime they slowly drift apart. Fast forward 14 years and Eden is desperate to escape her hectic life even just for a little while. When she returns to her small hometown she realizes a lot has changed and it’s not all for the better. I immediately loved Eden and Coop. Their interactions early on may have been childish but they were funny as hell. You could just feel the years of resentment boiling under the surface. Jilted is probably one of my favorite Sawyer Bennett books to date and loved that it was topped off with a sugary sweet epilogue.
Eden Goodnight went to LA to make it big as a model then an award winning actress at the cost of the relationship that she had with her high school sweetheart Cooper Mayfield. Now finding out while on a red carpet event that her fiancee has been sleeping with another woman a very embarrassed Eden returns to her family home in the small town she grew up in to escape for a while. Only when she arrives she finds Cooper already living in the house so not only does she have to put up with a scorned community who obviously hate her she also has to deal with an angry Cooper as well. But the more time they spend together the more they seem to be dropping back into the comfortable relationship they once had. But will they make the right choices this time? I really liked this book the story line was engaging, easy and romantic. The characters were both very likable and the sex was very hot. This was a lovely story of a second chance and re-connection.
Well, I can tell you one thing that is constant. Sawyer Bennett sure can deliver some smoking hot scenes. Whew. Of course Jilted is no exception and I’ll be completely honest, it’s the one thing that kind of pushed my rating up a little. While I throughly enjoyed this book, the overall story wouldn’t have been the same if it didn’t have the spice that Bennett delivered with it.
Eden left her small town fourteen years ago, leaving behind her first love in order to chase her dreams of something bigger. While they split cordially, you never forget your first love, right? Forced to step out of the spotlight of her cheating fiancé, Eden ends up going back to her hometown and forced to face the love she left behind.
Cooper is probably one of the sweetest heroes I’ve read in a while. He’s got that Southern charm and ultimately has a big heart. When everyone else seems to be down on Eden, he’s there to support her. Even when he thinks she might have done something that personally strikes him straight to the heart.
I enjoyed the banter between Eden and Cooper. Especially when she first got back to town. You could tell that they still harbored feelings for each other yet there were fight it and fighting each other. Their petty fights had me cracking up.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. Bennett gave us a swoon worthy love with pieces of wit and small-town Souther charm. If you are looking for a light-hearted read with some flair and charm, then this is the book for you!
Coop sometimes procrastinates on duties when his woman is all tempting, “his gaze travels up slowly and he gives me a wicked grin. “It’s not that big of an emergency. I don’t have to run right out of here. I could . . . say, for example . . . crawl back under the covers with you for a little.” Coop knows how to make a statement, “…Coop stalked right up to me, slid a hand behind my head, and kissed me hard. Right there. In front of everyone. He pulled back, smiled at Missy, and said, “You ladies enjoy your dinner.” I freakin’ loved this book, Coop had me fanning myself with all his sexiness
Sawyer has become an auto buy author for me. She just continues to write these books, no matter the genre, that I fall in love with. It doesn’t matter if she has you skating on ice, working in a court room, or traveling back home in the South – she just connects with that part in side of you that craves a great read.
Coop and Eden just came alive for me during this read. Newberry was a quintessentially small, southern town with all kinds of characters and personality.
Eden left 14 years prior and in doing so, she ended her relationship with her grandmother and Coop. What she didn’t realize was how much that would change her future. When she needs to get away from the limelight, she returns home to find home much different than she remembers.
Coop is not the same boy she left behind… now he is a man who knows what he wants and now his sights are set on Eden.
Coop and Eden. Theirs is a second chance romance. With the starry eyed love of youth, the eighteen year old lovers were not prepared for what life threw at them and they lost their way.
Fourteen years later…she’s been jilted on the red carpet and he’s “not in a relationship” with the town’s “skank” . They’ve both become very successful in their careers. But meeting again at Goodnight House after so many years was, let me say, unexpectedly explosive and humorous. Just ask Clay.
Nothing is going right. She’s the outcast and has no idea why. Going from lonely and hurt to being shunned has her running. Guilt eats at him and he chases after her. Rebound sex? Yes please! I’ll have some of that!
Their lives are so very different and knowing she’s home for a short while suddenly feels like de ja vu. So their a tongue lashing followed by a verbal lashing and distance that may be irreparable.
Colleen…I did not know she had it in her. High fives for creativity and giving fate a nudge. Cross-country…twice….
Coop, when he does it, he does it well. Had me melting into a puddle.
And the ending?! Just about perfect.
Sawyer Bennett brings us another fantastic story as Hollywood and small town America collide in this amazing second chance story. The characters are wonderful and the chemistry between Eden and Cooper is off the charts.
Eden Goodnight, Hollywood’s current favorite star, returns home after her private life implodes spectacularly right on the red carpet. She may not be happy about being back but she never expected the animosity the townspeople are throwing her way. The only person that seems to be cutting her any slack is her high school love Cooper Mayfield.
If you enjoy your romance fun, heartfelt, and steamy this is perfect for you. I highly recommend it.
Oh Em Gee, this book was so good! Eden Goodnight has come home after being jilted in a public way and is astonished with the hostile welcome, or unwelcome, she receives. Not only that but someone is living in her home and it is Cooper Mayfield, the man she broke up with 14 years previously and really the only one she has truly loved. What starts out as crazy antics turns into an understanding and ultimately “recovery sex” that turns to more. This is a second chance romance that hits all the right buttons and whistles and is better than Missy’s cupcakes! I did not want this one to end, it was so good…
I highly recommend this one!
