Jillian has lost a lot in recent years; she’s lost her parents to a drunk driver. She’s lost her brother and best friend to his career overseas, and she doesn’t know when she’ll see him again. She’s given up her position at Scotto, Whalley & Brown to panic attacks, unable to step foot inside her own office. If she’s following her mother’s philosophy, her Life Song is no longer playing; her … her music has gone away.
Then she meets Reid Stewart, the actor she’s had a crush on since her teens. The attraction is instant, and he refuses to let her slip through his fingers. Reid offers her friendship, romance, desire, and an all-consuming passion that she’s never known. These two create music of a very different kind, and Jillian is utterly open to it, falling for Reid although it’s new and frightening.
In life, we are often blessed with a host of friends who are like family and Jillian has those in abundance. They help her find her way back to her music and her Life Song. When life goes off the rails, sometimes it takes; crazy friends and family, a brand-new romance and some exciting clients to get you back where you belong, hearing your Life Song and realizing that your music is far from gone.

Jillian Whalley has it all. Beauty and brains. Great friends and an extended family who love and adore her. She’s also a world traveler who moves in the same circles as the rich and famous. But she’s got a hole in her heart that may never close. It ripped open one fateful night, and as Jilli remembers, “My mother used to tell me that everyone has their own Life Song. A rhythm that their life plays out to and I believe that night, my song stopped playing.”
It’s not until she starts doing the books of a hot and handsome movie star that the deep gaping rift in her emotions begins to mend.
I really liked reading this story as told from Jillian’s point of view. The author, Susan A. Buchanan, offers so many interesting glimpses into the lives of all of the characters surrounding the main one that you feel like you are a part of their circle. From her doting uncles to the hateful mother of her love interest, the reader fully experiences a wide range of reactions and sentiments surrounding the orphaned Jillian and her brother, Frankie. I love that love and family and the bond between brother and sister were a highlight of this story. There were several times their good-natured teasing had me laughing out loud.
And through her budding relationship with British actor, Reid Stewart, you’ll feel the intense passion building. . .along with lots of intimate scenes between them. This is an amazing story with strong chemistry so palpably hot that it leapt off the page. I loved the awesome clash of sassy, independent Jillian’s and sexy, smoldering Reid’s intermingling personnas. It was full of sweet witty banter and some seriously spicy intimate interludes sparked with just the right amount of heat. . . just like Jillian’s famous Cornmeal Pudding. (Yes, she can cook, too!)
The storyline is captivating and titillating and is definitely worth reading. It runs a full gamut of emotions throughout. The book is well-written and excellently planned out by the author.
One last note that is important to me. I’m not a fan of books with cliff-hangers and I’m happy to say that this book does not have one. I highly recommend it for a satisfying read.
A fun quick read! Jillian’s Song is a steamy tale with plenty of romance as well. The author did a wonderful job with pacing. The characters were well developed and interesting. I loved the metaphor of losing one’s song. Definitely worth the read!!
JILLIAN’S SONG by Susan A. Buchanan, centers on Jilli Whalley, a young Los Angeles woman who begins an assistant job for a famous English actor. While initially professional, the appeal of the older thespian, Jilli’s schoolgirl crush from years before, becomes too great, and she succumbs to his charms, but only on her terms.
While a few edits are needed, it’s a solid Hollywood story, showing Tinseltown’s good, bad, and ugly. The sex scenes are graphic and not for the faint of heart. The scene descriptions and terminology are convincing – Buchanan seems to have done her research into the movie industry. Readers can expect a story like NOTTING HILL, but with the rolls reversed and lot more steam.
Jillian is a smart, educated and hot woman. Reid Stewart is a movie star she has crushed on forever. When Jillian is assigned to be his assistant and help him get moved to the US sparks fly. Reid has his sights set on Jillian, but she is trying to keep things professional. How long can she keep that up? This was a cute story. I love when Jillian put Reid’s mom in her place! Great story and great characters!!
Jillian Song is a moving comeback story with wonderfully drawn characters. When the book opens, Jilli has been in a very dark place due to the tragic death of her parents, but when things start looking up, the love, passion, family support, and career successes are the stuff dreams are made of. The book is steamy in a good, satisfying sort of way, mostly because I liked Jill and Reid so much that I loved visualizing them being happy together. While Reid’s mother and some unscrupulous clients add a little conflict, Jilli’s family is the perfect mix of quirky and loveable. Jillian’s Song is a light, fun, sexy read, with an almost fairy tale quality to it and a definite happily ever after ending.
