The second book in the Marked Men series from Jay Crownover — a sizzling story of love, lust and longing
With his tight leather jeans and a sharp edge that makes him dangerous, Jet Keller is every girl’s rock and roll fantasy. But Ayden Cross is done walking on the wild side with bad boys. She doesn’t want to give in to the heat she sees in Jet’s dark, haunted eyes, but even his touch sets her … sets her on fire.
Jet can’t resist the Southern Belle with mile-long legs in cowboy boots who defies his every expectation. Yet the closer he feels to Ayden, the less he seems to know her. While he’s tempted to get under her skin and undo her in every way, he knows first hand what happens to two people with very different ideas about relationships.
Will the blaze burn into an enduring love… or will it consume their dreams and turn them to ashes?

Ayden moved from a small town in Kentucky to Denver, CO. She was determined to start her life over; she never wanted to be the KY girl again. the scholarship she was granted to attne4d DU was just the beginning of her new beginning. She created a new Ayden who craved stability and structure. Jet was the lead singer in a local heavy metal band. His band was good, was locally famous, had the potential to be huge. He also helped produce music for local bands, wrote songs for band. Music was his life. And he threatened everything Ayden thinks she needs.
Ayden kept saying there were two different Aydens – the New Ayden and the Old Ayden. But I have to disagree. There was mostly definitely two Aydens but it wasn’t new and old. One Ayden was compassionate, loyal (to a fault sometimes), smart, fierce and passionate. The other was delusional and obtuse. The second one spent so much energy trying to be something she wasn’t, trying to run from her past that she didn’t realize her pasted help shape her into who she was and everyone in her life loved that Ayden. She also missed that by being dead set on her misconstrued idea of stability that she missed how amazing, perfect and stable Jet is for her. I liked Ayden. She made dumb choices but I liked her. Aside from her past she was a straight shooter and said what she felt and offered all that she could. I loved her no BS attitude and how she wasn’t afraid to go up against the world for those she loved.
Jet was amazing. I loved that he was a guy that loved music and just wanted to play with anyway he could – producing, writing, playing, singing – he loved it all. it was an outlet for him. I lvoed his heart, how he wanted the best for his mom but when push came to shove he finally chose himself. I loved that when he loved he loved hard and would be there for you even if he had to fly to a different country. I adore Jet.
I loved how Jet & Ayd were together. These two were perfect for each other. They gave each other the balance, stability and love they both needed.
I Love the whole Marked men series! These books are different characters but you still see the other characters in this book. They grow together and stand together as a family.
This book was about Jet and Ayd. From two different world and different people but at the same time they are the same. This book keeps you on your toes and you dont want to put it down. This book was well written and I love that she keeps the characters from the first book in this book so it doesnt feel like they just disappear. You can tell that the characters are a family and they stand together through thick and thin.
” I wasn’t apologizing for that,Ayd. God, I was up all night thinking about it, thinking about you. I’m sorry about the song, sorry for making you feel bad, sorry for being an asshole. You keep telling me you don’t know, and that i don’t have a clue, but the truth is, we don’t know each other, and i don’t know that either of us is really ready to handle the other. What i do know is I want you more than I want to keep breathing.”
In the first Marked Men book, Rule, readers were introduced to Ayden, a spunky and confident chick. As well, as Jet who was the mysterious, almost broody, rock star. Those first impressions were pretty far from what was delivered in book two, Jet.
Not that it is a bad thing. I actually was not a big fan of Jet in the first book and, honestly, wasn’t sure I would be grabbed by his story. Boy, was I wrong. I fell hard for his story. I think, because even though he looks edgy and hard, he is really so very tender. Melted me instantly. He’s troubled, sure but he knows what he wants, what he has to offer and that he isn’t willing to let the people he cares about get hurt. Even if that means he sets his own heart aside.
Ayden, on the other hand, lost a bit of her spark. I still liked her but she wasn’t the same little firecracker that she had been. I can attribute a good portion of that to the fact that this book really delves into her background and it isn’t a happy place but I wanted her to fight back more. I was rooting for her and it took her a long time to hear my cheers.
Crownover has a knack for writing good natured characters with a dark or broken side to them. Which, are my favorite type of characters. So far, the Marked Men series is delivering great characters who, on the surface don’t fit together but find a way to look past that and work from the heart. It’s full of gritty bad boys and (maybe not so) sweet good girls finding out that opposites can and do attract and maybe love really does conquer all.
