For many years, best-selling author Michael Phillips assumed he clearly understood the life of Jesus. Though Jesus was in truth his Savior, and even his Lord, Phillips felt challenged to understand more of the remarkable life lived two thousand years ago in Palestine. Then came a crisis in his spiritual pilgrimage when circumstances forced him to open the book of his life in a new way, and delve … delve more deeply into the fundamental why of Jesus’ life.
Challenged to discover the New Testament imperative for his life, Phillips takes a fresh look at the Bible to find out what is the essence, the foundation, of spirituality. Boiled down. The raw reality of the gospel. No frills. No excess baggage. No trite little phrases learned in Sunday school or youth group.
He discovers a key that gives validity to an entire life’s purpose and perspective as a Christian for right now. Not in some grandiose, far-reaching way . . . but the link between belief and practice, between eternity and now, between Christianity as a world religion, and Christianity as a practical guidebook for going about the business of life in the trenches. For if ever a man walked in harmony between ultimate purpose and the next five minutes, that man was Jesus Christ. And that key to Jesus’ life was obedience.

One of the most amazing Christian books I have ever read. I am still contemplating the gems ofpersonal wisdom that came from the book. Somehow although I have been a Christian, I know now that I operated under a childish belief that somehow Jesus had suffered less physically as the son of God. That he has some sort of meditating abilityso …
Jesus, an Obedient Son is a thought provoking and inspiring book that takes your imagination on a journey through the life and ministry of Christ. It then clearly shows our call as Christians into the life of obedience as children of God. This is a beautiful companion to both of The Commands books.
An interesting idea but did not really work
I love all Michael Phillips’ books!
Well written story of Jesus life, death, and resurrection in a modern times narrative.
What it would be like if Jesus was born and died in modern day times.
Basically, an extended Christian tract with a present day illustration of the Gospel story.
Long a fan of Michael Phillips’ updating of George MacDonald’s writings, and of his own novels, I was deeply encouraged by Michael’s honest wrestling with his own faith. Challenged by his pastor to “read what the Bible has to say”, he invited us to “put ourselves into the story” of Jesus’ walk here on earth, to come to know Him more personally. A …
I loved the way Michael Phillips wrote as if he were actually in the time he was writing about. Very thought provoking. This book kept my interest and attention well. I finished the book in one day.
The book gave a lot. Of information that people need to know about. It was interesting.
What a beautiful and in-depth description of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you want to grow in your relationship with Him and with our Father, read this book. Obedience is the heart of it all!
The reason I say page turner is the story line sorta goes back and forth a bit. However I recommend reading the book.
Excellent book, easy to read, expands understanding of Jesus and our lives in Him.
Captured my attention long term
This book helped me to see more clearly the humanity of Jesus and the quite simple message He was presenting to mankind: put aside self and follow the will of His Father.. be obedient as He was, even on the face of adversity.
Wonderful! Showed Jesus as a man…who was (is) God in the flesh! And challenged my commitment to Him.
Describing Jesus and the disciples as modern people in a current day scenarios is thought-provoking.
It was a real eye opener to rhos people would react if Jesus was here today.
