Jessie Mills and her brother, Jake, have worked and saved all their lives to buy a small ranch. Their savings, with a small inheritance from their father, has bought them their dream, Dusty Dreams Ranch. But soon after they move onto the ranch, Jake is deployed to Afghanistan, where he dies a hero’s death after barely a month. Jessie is determined to make the ranch what they dreamed of, but she … she is frozen with indecision on how to do it.
Until one day, a stranger comes to her door, a stranger who turns out to be Jake’s best friend from the Army, Brady Jensen. Brady is bringing a letter to Jessie from her brother, a letter that explains to her that Brady has promised him that he will manage the ranch until it is up and running. Jake knew that Jessie would be lost without him and he set a plan in motion for her.
He asked her to promise to carry out his plan, so Jessie agrees to let Brady take over the ranch. Sparks soon fly between the two of them, and Brady discovers that when Jake told him he would have to use a firm hand, he had been right. In time, Jessie comes to trust Brady, and the attraction between the two of them grows stronger and stronger.
Brady is in love with Jessie, but he knows she is still grieving for her brother, so he waits. When the man who thinks that Jessie rejected him becomes increasingly threatening, Brady vows to protect her. But when the hate-filled man abducts her and promises to have his way with her before he kills her, can Brady save her? Can the whole town save her? Will Jessie get the chance to tell Brady that she loves him?
Publisher’s Note: This steamy, action filled contemporary romance contains a theme of power exchange.

The start of a new series called Dusty Dreams Ranch a well written story with a very good storyline. Jessie Mills loses her brother Jake in Afghanistan, where he dies a hero’s death. Jake sends his best friend from the Army Brady Jensen, with his dying words to help Jessie. This story has suspense, drama, danger, twists, turns, abduction, and romance I enjoyed reading. I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Loving and touching story! This is my first book from this author, and she gets two thumbs up. I love her style and the meaning of the story. This was more of Jake’s dream but made for Jessie. This story is about Jessie, Jake (Jessie’s late brother) and his best friend/brother from the military Brady. Jessie and her late brother who didn’t return from Afghanistan had big plans for the ranch that they had bought together. They were always together, as Jake always made sure to take care of her, but as he died a hero’s death, she was now left alone to figure things out on her own but didn’t know where to start. Brady is new in town, but is there on a mission, he needs to meet with Jake’s younger sister and help her set this ranch off as a promise to his late military brother, if she allows and wants to see this through.
The first chapter pulls you in right away, there will be tears at least there were for me, losing someone that was your backbone is hard and not having any other family around is even harder. The good things about small towns is that friends/neighbors end up becoming your family without you knowing. There is drama in this book caused by a man that doesn’t take NO for an answer along with some discipline spanking. Jessie and Brady have a frightening ending before a beautiful beginning. And no matter what, always know that we dream for a reason, we sometimes must think of what we are being told in said dream and not expect to have all of the answers. I’m hoping that this is a start of a series as there is other couples there that need their story told. I loved the book it was a great read.

OKAY, JAKE. I PROMISE.
I enjoyed this contemporary western tale and the characters. Siblings Jake and Jessie Mills bought a ranch to live out their dream; only life brought a sudden change. Jake was deployed and KIA in Afghanistan. But Jessie sits at the ranch, knowing the goals but procrastinating. One day a stranger shows up—Jake’s Army buddy, Brady Jensen with a letter from Jake and plans for the future.
The story is an emotional tale, and I liked the two main characters of Jessie and Brady. While he was raised on a ranch about five hours away and has the experience needed to make Jake and Jessie’s dream come to fruition, it isn’t without her bucking along the way. She can handle some of the more minor expenses but is worried about the larger ones—but that’s ok; Brady is there to ground her, help keep her moving in the right direction—and that includes discipline when needed.
Brady: “Today, we started building your ranch.”
Jessie: “I guess I’m going to have to learn to take one day at a time if I want to save my sanity. I’m a champion worrier. Okay. Let’s do it. It’s for Jake.”
The story has plenty of interaction, a touch of angst, and even a battle of wills as Jessie worries that Brady is going too far too fast. But what is Brady getting out of it—nothing but doing what he promised a friend, helping Jessie start the ranch, get it running, and understanding what needs to be done.
Jessie: “Maybe you ought to tell me what’s really in it for you! What are you really planning to get out of this?”
Brady: “Now I get what your brother was warning me about. You really are a stubborn, spoiled brat, aren’t you. That’s it. I didn’t want it to go this way, but I was told it would. You act like a brat, you get treated like a brat. Jake told me I’d end up having to do this.”
The story has the good and the bad of people. There is a man, Dan Whitman, who has been asking Jessie out, and she continually turns him down—now he is becoming more insistent and even making lewd comments around town about her. But when things start happening at the ranch, it has Jessie, Brady, and Red, their ranch hand, on alert. Things become a concern, and now Jessie must stay locked inside to be safe—but is she really safe? She dreams of Jake, and he keeps warning her to be careful—don’t trust that guy—pay attention—don’t let him have a chance to hurt you.
The story has several tense, life and death moments of danger and suspense. The more time Brady and Jessie spend together, the closer they become—but she worries when the spring comes, will he leave? The situation with Dan has them all on alert—even their friends in town are concerned enough to keep a watch—but will they be diligent enough? There is a time or two in this story I was on the edge-of-my-seat and even crying.
The story has several great secondary characters and friendships. The story has several discipline scenes and mildly explicit sex scenes. It does have a couple of violent scenes with kidnapping and attempted rape.
I am excited to read the next story in the series’ A Dusty Dreams Wedding.’
“I still miss him so much. But I’m so happy that we’re making his dream happen. This is for you, Jake. I sure hope you’re watching.”
This story pulled me from the open words and held me through the pain of lost, the honor of wishes, the building of dreams, the suspense of danger and the heart warming characters.
What amazing read that is hard to put down.

Finding love out of tragedy
Jessie’s Dusty Dreams is the first book in the Dusty Dreams Ranch series and it is a great one to kick off the series with. This is a wonderful story of unimaginable loss and then finding love from that. Jessie and her brother Jake bought a ranch before he was deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately he did not come home alive which left Jessie trying to deal with her grief and run the ranch. Jake used to take care of a lot of things in Jessie’s life so she has to figure out a lot of things in a quick period of time, not all successful but she does give it a try.
Brady was Jake’s best friend and they were deployed together in Afghanistan. Jake had made Brady promise that is something happened to him he would look after Jessie before he dies.
One day Brady shows up at the ranch to Jessie’s surprise with a letter from Jake to her. It let’s her know who Brady is and what he is there for. Of course she not too sure about this whole thing but reluctantly agrees to let Brady stay and help out. He quickly takes over with Jessie fighting him at ever turn. She does have a temper and is not afraid to show it. Brady is calm and in control so he meets her with well reasoned explanations but when these do not work he finally decides to deal with things in a different way. A few session over his knee and Jessie is much less argumentative.
This is a fun and engaging novella with nicely written characters that have emotional depth. Both are hurting with Jake’s death but together they help each other heal as they work together to make Jake’s dreams for the ranch come true.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
I’m really becoming quite a fan of this author. Each book has definitely been worth reading. This is book 1 in a new series & is completely standalone. Jessie is finding it hard to move on from the death of her brother Jake in Afghanistan. Then along comes Brady with a letter from Jake & a promise of a new beginning. I really enjoyed these characters. They were lively & fun, but also full of emotion & self-doubt. Along with a nice bit of drama thrown in, & it’s well worth the read.

Jessie will do all she can to make the ranch a success but is scared she can’t do it on her own. Jake/Jessie were always together, as Jake always made sure to take care of her, but as he died a hero’s death, she was now left alone to figure things out on her own but didn’t know where to start.Brady is new to town, but is there on a mission, he needs to meet w/Jake’s younger sister & help her set this ranch off as a promise to his late military brother, if she allows & wants to see this through!* So if you want more go get the full story , its so worth the read & its sizzling hot to boot so enjoy!!!

The sweetest saddest part of this story was Jake’s last letter to Jessie. I loved that she and her brother shared a dream that he continued to help her with even though he passed.
Her relationship with Brody was a slow burn with a bit of drama with her crazy but determined psycho stalker.
It helped that Jessie wasn’t a shrinking violet who whined about every hardship or attack she endured. I liked her snarky personality.

Enjoyed reading this emotional story with Jessie and her brother Jake scrape and save to buy a ranch they have always dreamed of only for him to get deployed then killed. She is at a lose as to how she can make a go of the ranch that now belongs to her. Her brothers friend Brady from the military made a promise to Jake that if something happened to him he would go and help Jessie with the ranch. As they work together they develop feelings for each other but are afraid to admit it to each other. Good sweet romance with good characters.
Dusty Dreams Ranch
Having never read anything by this author, I wasn’t sure what to expect but the blurb caught my attention. After reading the first chapter, I was hooked. Jessie and Brady’s first meeting had be giggling. Their first official meeting had me holding back tears. Needless to say, this book covers a lot of emotions. The basic story-line is one filled with dreams, love of family and a sweet love story. The addition of the “spanking lifestyle” brings the hit of the erotic. Then there’s the suspense and danger aspect. Yeah….this story has something for everyone wrapped up neatly in one book.

This is a great well-written story and once I started it I couldn’t put it down. The chemistry between them is good and builds up. This has a well constructed characters and very entertaining. The banter between the two is sweet and funny, and there is power exchange but not too racy. This is a must read story by a good Author and I will be looking for more from this Author.

This book pulled me in from the start and held me a virtual captive to its world. I loved the suspense and the psychological thriller aspects of the story. They kept me wildly flipping pages, desperate to see what would happen next. I really appreciated the way this book approached the Lifestyle as well. The explanations aren’t completely organic to the scenes that they’re in – it felt like a bit of an info-dump – but the discussions and conversations are something that are very important to me to see in fiction from this genre. I’m not wholly a fan of Jessie’s occasional bratty behavior, however I found the author did an excellent job of portraying the stresses that pushed her act out in most of those cases. Brady’s pretty close to perfect in my eyes. The only real issue I had was the punishment after the mailbox scene. I can see the point he was trying to make; I just don’t think the punishment fit the crime. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I’m kind of sorry it’s over now. I can’t wait to see what the author brings us next.
