Jenny Lindford is a southern belle from Lexington, Kentucky about to become a mail-order bride in Minnesota. The eldest of five sisters, she worked hard to help her ma hold the family horse farm together while her father was away fighting in the Civil War. Raised to be an independent thinker, she attends Miss Clark’s Finishing School after the war, and then tours England and France with one of … her sisters under an aunt’s watchful eyes. However, it seems no one can see what she’s writing in that journal of hers.
Philadelphia-born Dr. Zane Beckham has led a privileged life. Not only is he world-traveled, but he’s entitled to an enormous inheritance from his father’s Pittsburgh iron foundry and railroad investments. The Beckhams have made a fortune during the war selling iron to shipbuilders, locomotive makers, and weaponry manufacturers. In his early thirties, Zane is ready to settle down. He’s been building a mansion for his bride in the small town of Pelican Rapids, and maybe a few other things, too.
When matchmaker Ella Milton brings these two together and they begin a correspondence through the mail, Jenny and Zane both have secrets they aren’t ready to reveal. Even Ella isn’t sure what these two hearts should do. Will her matchmaking efforts backfire when their secrets are revealed, or can love overcome the best kept secrets?

A charming novel of two in love and learning about each other and each passions in life. I enjoyed and appreciate the time it took to research the beginnings of zoos. That is mixed within this book.
It is a stand alone even thought its part of a series
And I would enjoy encouraging young preteen readers to read this
Lisa M. Prysock is one of my favorite Authors. Her books go above and beyond it leading you to a Happy Ending.
I am always pulled in immediately. The stories have heart and soul. The couples are Christian based and the stories are sweet and clean. This book did not disappoint. Jenny comes to Pelican Rapids, MN as a mail order bride. She meets her intended husband Zane, and is immediately attracted and happy that they were chosen for each other.
They each have a little, or big if you will secret to share with each other. Once shared will their marriage hang in the balance? This book takes place at the start of the push to give Women the right to vote. You will enjoy the research and facts put into this book as much a I did. I highly recommend this book.
Lisa has such a way with descriptive writing. You can picture everything taking place down to the fine details. This story has laughter, history, truth, scripture, and love. It doesn’t need anything else. Well done!!!
Oh, my!! I loved reading Jenny and Zane’s story!! Zane is such a romantic!!! He kept sending Jenny little gifts everyday, doing all kinds of this for her that every woman would love!! He remembered her favorite color and her favorite flowers!! She was keeping a secret, as was he. She was afraid he wouldn’t like her secret, which she thought would be seen as worse than his, and which society at that time would have frowned upon. However, when he finds out, the night before their wedding, he was proud of her; proudly took his place by her side, and showed how much he loved her, and would continue to stand by her side.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
This is not your typical mail order bride story. It is fun, engaging and unpredictable. I love the humor and friendship in the story. The story leaves you wondering if Jenny and Zane will work out or if the monkey wrenches in their courtship will derail their nuptials.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novella by Ms. Prysock! What a great story highlighting mail-order brides and the women’s fight to vote. The character development and setting description make the reader feel right at home in this story. Being a novella, this story moves along at a right-nice pace. I greatly appreciate the scripture quotes at the beginning of each chapter that really enhances what happens in the chapter.
I recommend this story for readers looking for a HEA, Christian fiction, and historical fiction.
Another great book by Lisa Prysock! A story full of historical information, and scripture verses, and great characters. A book I had a hard time putting done.
This was a fun, original, clean story and even though this is part of a series; it can read as a stand alone. The characters are fun and the plot is definitely interesting. The historical facts intertwined really added to the story and the bible verses were nice touches too.
Set In Minnesota in the 1870s, Jenny’s Secret Diary combines history, romance, and faith with a little humor and drama to create an enjoyable, easy-to-read novella. The plot flows at a fitting pace, and the characters are engaging and believable. As in all her other works, I appreciate the scriptures and inspirational quotes with which Ms. Prysock prefaces each chapter. Also, her notes at the end of the book are informative and uplifting. Overall, this is an interesting, fun, and inspiring read.
Oh, the secrets that we keep. Jenny’s mother wanted her daughters to marry well. Jenny found a match with a man living in Montana. They corresponded by letters, but they each have a secret that they are holding back.
What a wonderful story! It has adventure, romance, and twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. At the end of the book it has biblical and historical facts plus wonderful discussion questions. If you like historical christian romance, you will love this book!
Fun characters that you can really connect with. A captivating read that is fun and beautiful. I loved the history in this story and the information at the end of the story about the Clays and the women’s suffragette. This is a sweet clean romance that is 5 star romantic and enchanting! A definite must read.
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Wonderful book with adventure, romance, and amazing pets. This story is heartwarming and has plot twists that kept me entertained. Fabulous discussions regarding women’s rights of the time.
What a great book Ms. Prysock has written. This is another book in the Brides of Pelican Rapids series. As always, the author has done a wonderful job of developing the characters. And, she adds in so much history. At the end of the book she gives even more history. There are some real surprises in the book that make it even better. And the scriptures and references to the Bible are so appropriate. This is a good clean Christian romance. I highly recommend it.
This is a sweetly romantic mail order bride story with very serious elements. Jenny and Zane have corresponded for some time and have decided to marry. Although, Zane had told Jenny of his love for animals, he did not tell her what kind of animals. Likewise, Jenny kept her writing career a secret from Zane, As they began to get acquainted and to plan their wedding, Jenny was finding it increasingly difficult to tell him of her writing activities, and her involvement in the Women’s Suffragette movement; which was revealed in a very dramatic way. This story shows a very extensive amount of research and is well written.
