This book, emotionally charged, slow burn, and a beautiful love story. This is not a rockstar romance even if her father is a Mega Rock Star. Jayla (Jay) loved Zach (Z) at age 6. Jay is a growing teenager and with that comes over the top protection, drama, secrets, and tragedy. When her father passes away Jaybird is thrown into the limelight. She does her best to handle things but everything is coming way to fast for her. She has a huge family and the best of friends to have help her through. The banter and humor that goes on will have you laughing out loud. You have to read this amazing story that demonstrates the true meaning of unconditional love in different capacities. M.A. Foster is an amazing writer and I will definitely read this entire series
OMG, all the feels. Jayla could be the spoiled brat, whiny kid of a major rock star, but while her famous father may have spoiled her, her parents shielded her from the limelight growing up. At 6 she meets Zach and the two are inseparable from then on during their summer vacations.
At 16, young love goes far, but mean girls interfere, and they lose that shot. But Jayla, or Jaybird as her dad calls her, is dealing with something worse, her dad is dying. After his death, Jayla and her mom move to her mom’s hometown, and that’s where Zach lives.
Let me tell you, the drama and angst these teenagers go through was incredible. But the feelings and emotions that Foster brings to the page, these are amazing. The relationship ups and downs, the misunderstandings and the deliberate nastiness, these are things that most will understand and relate to.
Wow! This sh!t is pure golden genius
I don’t know what I was really expecting when I started Jaybird, but wow! I bow down to the awesomeness that is MA Foster creation. It blew me away. The characters are so really and when you think you know where the story is is it is like WHAM going in another direction. It is an emotional roller coaster with highs and lows, but this Princess will always come out on top. Jaybird is worth the risk to read.
Oh My God, I loved this book even with the drama going on! This started out sad but had it’s moments of funny. I cried and laughed because you had to when it was called for. Secrets & lies are what brings the drama to this one but it helps to offset the sad.
This was about a girl who met the boy at the age of 6 that she’ll marry one day. Young love and jealous antics pull them apart when they are 16 years old (Jay) & 17 years old (Zach). It’s been a year apart for these two and a lot has happened in Jay’s life that brings her and her mother back to her mother’s hometown and where Zach lives as well. Zach gets the surprise (eyes bulging) of his life when he sees Jay standing across from him when he opens the bathroom door. Eventually these two talk and become the couple they always wanted to be because now Jay isn’t miles away from Zach.
This is a road of discovery for Jay and who she is and wants to be and not who she needs to be. She has trials and tribulations along the way but Zach will be there because these two were meant to be. The road wasn’t paved in gold for these two but it ends in gold for them.
M.A. you are new to me and cannot wait to read more from you. This was a passionate story no matter what went on and you brought life to my new favorite YA. You had me on the edge of my seat just reading and reading to know what was next is this drama filled love story. There was soo much heart and passion in your writing, thank you for writing this story. A definite must read!
**Reviewed for Sweet and Spicy Reads, ARC provided in return for an honest review**
Rule number 1 . . . Don’t judge this book by the cover! Rule number 2 . . . Always remember that the life of a celebrity/rockstar is more chaotic then you can imagine, so breathe and keep reading . . . Its worth it!
Ok, so now you know the 2 rules to really enjoy this crazy soap opera of a book . . . Let me tell you I have more love than hate for Jaybird. I have always pushed it off because rockstar romance isn’t my go to read. After hearing that this is not that rockstar romance crap, I decided to give it a go. This book is long! Not overly long and boring and full of detailed crap that doesn’t need to be there . . . Its just long because its also the best rollercoaster ride you will ever take! I mean, life for Jayla/Jaybird literally changes so quick and then everything is tossed at her, no warning and no stopping. I guess thats the life that a rockstar princess gets . . . Non-stop chaos! Jayla gets more family, more friends, more public paparazzi, more drama, more love . . . Seriously this is like binging a whole season of some drama like Grey’s Anatomy in a day! So take a breath, refill that wine glass, and snack on some chocolate so you can get back to reading!
Jaybird makes you cry, makes you laugh, makes you want to throat punch fictional characters and then pulls you in to care about everyone else that got mentioned in Jayla’s life. MA Foster seamlessly weaved a crazy high drama tale that will have you begging for more and having a dance off to pop hits while doing the dishes and telling your family it’s cereal Sunday! Well at least that was true for me. . . Anyways, give Jaybird a chance and thank me later!
I thought I was prepared for this book but boy was I wrong, I totally wasn’t ready! I’ve had this series in my tbr pile for a while, why did I wait so long to dive in?? Now I feel like I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and I don’t want to go back! From the first chapter I realized that this wasn’t just a book series, this book transported me to an entirely different world. Following Jayla and her family as they navigated their new lives without her father was an emotional journey. Along the way there were many tears, smiles, heartbreaks, forgiveness and above all, so much love. Even when I wasn’t reading I found myself thinking about this story and what I thought was going to happen next. I can’t wait to jump into the next one but first I need go wash away these tears and take care of my recently neglected adulting duties lol
I loved Z and Jayla’s book. I read these out of sequence, but the good news is that the timelines overlap so it was easy to fall into the story. I loved how her father even though not there in person was so large that we feel like he was. I love the whole family. I can’t wait to read more!
OMG… Jaybird has left me struggling to describe my emotional state after reading this book. I am a wreck but while I search for words to articulate my feelings, first let me tell you a bit about it. It is the first in the Heritage Bay Series. I didn’t know that and read Mackenzie and Cougar first. Eek! It actually was fine though because they are all are written as a stand-alone but told within the same time period. I REALLY loved that… it made for such a unique way of storytelling. Be forewarned, this style makes for a meaty read and requires the need to pay close attention. SO FLIPPING GOOD!
This story is about Jayla and Zach. Jayla is the daughter of a famous rockstar who dies early in the book from cancer. After her father’s passing Jayla and her mother return to her mom’s home town to be near family and so Jayla can attend her last year of high school there. Zach’s family and Jayla’s maternal side have all been friends for generations so these two have known each other since they were small children and family vacationed together.
Ok now you have some of the foundation of this book, let me tell you what I loved. Jayla and Zach are amazingly imperfect, giving the right amount of realism to this story. It is filled with characters that surround our couple and provide a richness to it. They most certainly travel a rocky road to their HEA. It is filled with teenage angst and tribulations but it is so much more. You see the depth of family relationships and challenges of high school friendships.
What resonated the most was the telling of living life again after a huge loss. If you have ever experienced losing a parent when you are young, well it has the ability to be a pain that becomes part of your DNA and haunts you always. It did for me anyway. I loved how Jayla’s dad figured out a way to touch her life after he was gone. I want to cry just thinking about it. I definitely used a few tissues during my read. YIKES!
I could talk about this book forever and all the ways it spoke to me… but I won’t. Haha. Let me just say if you are looking for a book that is filled with story and heart then you won’t be disappointed with this one. Definitely five star worthy. Happy Reading Everyone! XOXO
I started this series a bit backwards. I started with Cougar and can honestly say I am pleased I did. I could relate to Em more and Jaybird was better for me after I had read Cougar. It filled in all the blanks I needed. The cover is so fitting and the author has a talent of relaying the most touching words ever. Really loved this series. It broke my heart, mended it and broke it again, only to get my HEA. I would definitely recommend this to anyone <3
Wow what a amazing debut novel!!!!!
YA is not normally a genre I’m drawn too but I had heard so much about this book I took a chance and I’m so glad I did because this book has all the feels you want in a great read. I will say there are quite a few characters in this book but everyone of them has something to contribute to this emotional love story that is centred around the residents of Heritage Bay.
Zack and Jayla have loved each other since they were 6 years old but it took them to break up and not talk for many years to realise they really are soul mates, they love and need each other to survive and she needs him to get over the loss of the only man she had ever really trusted her father…..
My heart broke so many times as I read this story but I also smiled and laughed with the goings on between this group of family and friends who reside in Heritage Bay. Please do yourself a favour and one click this beautifully written emotional stand-alone from the very talented M.A. Foster.
I normally don’t read YA books but I really liked the blurb of this story so decided to give it a go. I am so glad I did! I really loved this storyline! Jay (Jayla) and Zach’s story was sweet, emotional and full of teenage angst with a lot of laugh out funny moments. I was surprised that this was the author’s debut novel! The story flowed and I did not want to put it down. I wanted more and I needed to know how the story would unfold. There were several twists and a lot of surprises that kept me at the edge of my seat.
Jayla’s world was turned upside down and the one person she thought would always be there for her suddenly wasn’t. She felt betrayed and she had every right to feel that way. I will admit, Zach was not my favorite character for a while. I wanted to junk punch the little punk. I wanted Bass to tear into him but then I found myself falling for him. I love that this story was in dual POV of Jayla and Zach.
I do have to say, read and follow the character list at the beginning because there are a lot of characters. I was confused here and there and had to stop to really think “okay, this character is so and so”. I liked that there were side plots going along with the main character’s plot. I fell for Brad! He was the best. I laughed and laughed at this character but I have to say my favorite was Logan. Sweet Logan… I hope we get his story because he was my favorite… well, besides Bass.
This is a book that must be added to your TBR list! I am ready for more from this author.
I’m a hopeless romantic, and this book played right into that. There were of course, twists and turns. I’m so happy I read this, and you will be too.
What a fantastic read! Five stars all the way! It has been a long time since I have read a Young Adult book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. That blurb really got my attention and the whole story had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. Jaybird had so many feels, I cried, lmao, giggled and wanted to throw my kindle a few times. I loved the characters. Although I was not a fan of Zach at first, but once I got to know him I had to have more of him. There were a lot of characters, so my suggestion read the characters list at the beginning of the book.
Jayla had the perfect life, with her parents keeping her in a bubble from the world. Until her whole life was flipped upside down and her daddy was not there anymore to shield her from the world. She was in love with her cousin’s best friend since she was a child but all he did was push her away. All she wanted was to have a normal teenage life again.
I loved Jaybird and can’t wait to read more by MA Foster! I highly suggest to go one click!
This was a cute story about a rock princess. Jayla has grown up, the daughter of a rock god. Her life is anything but normal. She suffers a major loss in her life and her parents decide to give her life a little more normalcy surrounded by family. Having being homeschooled all her life, Jayla attends an music-based high school in her mother’s hometown in preparation to go out on tour with her father’s band. High school is brutal, with jealousy and lies, but Jayla finds a group of friends who have her back, including her two cousins. Secrets are also being kept by a couple of the most -important people in Jayla’s life. This was a good read and I’m glad I’m not in High school anymore!
What a great read! This is a Young Adult book, which is not my normal genre, but I’m open to read anything as long as it’s good. This book had everything, and I mean everything you want in a book!!! I adored that it was lacking in sex scenes!! I, personally, don’t need the sex to enjoy a book. I want sustenance and this book has it! I cried (several times), I laughed, I sighed, I cringed, I sniffled… but I just loved all of MA Foster’s words!
Now when I say this book has everything… it does… we have the total bad ass rock legend everyone wants to be, death, adultery, abusive relationships, catty teenage girls, girl fights, love, sweet words, happiness, trust, learning to live again, learning to trust again, growing up, following dreams, making new dreams… there’s just everything! I think there might have been more drama from the adults than the teenagers though, and that made me laugh really hard!
This is really a coming of age book. Some of the characters were extremely relatable. I could have seen my teenage self enjoying them. The two main characters, Jaybird and Zach, were fantastic. Zach was a really sweet guy. This book is definitely about Jaybird though. Even though Jaybird is the daughter of this huge rock star she isn’t full of herself and self-absorbed. I really am thankful for that. Lexi is the comic relief that was so needed and I was completely smitten with her!
Outstanding debut novel.
Jaybird is a YA romance that will blow you away. Jayla and Zach’s story is full of twists and unexpected turns. Be warned you will need tissues it’s has some very emotional bits, it also has some laugh out moments.
There’s a lot of characters in this book and you can’t help but like them,. but they all and have a part to play within the book and I’m hoping they all get their own story soon.
I have no words!
Jaybird is the first M. A. Foster book that I have read; however, it will NOT be my last! I am utterly and completely in love with the Heritage Bay crew!
This story was so beautifully written – full of angst and raw, gritty emotion.
I felt like Jayla could be my best friend (well, other than the fact that she is filthy rich…). She is beautiful, incredibly talented, snarky as all hell, and intelligent, to boot! Not to mention her loyalty, compassion for others and an uncanny sense for when someone needs a friend.
Zach – who kind of started out as a D-Bag in the beginning is so incredibly lovable… He seems to have some seriously bad luck and is surrounded by crazy girls, but I love his loyalty to his friends and family!
I just can’t even start on the rest of the characters because I loved them all, well mostly… Ok, there were a few that needed to be taught a lesson or two… Oh, wait! That’s right… they were!
I cried… sitting at my desk at work, reading my book… I cried… over and over! Every time Jayla got a letter, I cried… so much emotion!
I really could go on and on, but I am too anxious to read Mackenzie, the next book in the series, so I will leave you with this… YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!
I loved this book. The characters, the story just captivate you.
Woah buddy that book was long. And I was a wee bit confused my all the different characters. I liked how she tries to explain at the beginning each relationship the person had with Jay. I liked all the characters though! They each added something different to the story. I did really like her character though. She was sassy and strong. Loved the relationship she had with her parents. He was a bit of a player for someone so young and in love. Felt he might have been around a little too much for someone his age and as much as he said he loved Jay. Though I did like his character besides that little hiccup. What I did like was the story was emotional and real. I really felt it every time a read one of her letters. Her mom seemed like a pretty awesome mom too. I loved the ending. It was short and sweet. I love when I get too read farther into the future. The cover is so pretty too!
Tears from the beginning.
Emotional, funny, and heartwarming. This book has it all.
This story took me back to being in high school and all those feelings that get tangled together. The highs and the low that help mold you into the person you become.
One thing I loved about this book was all the family dynamic. All the family members played a part and I could feel their love for one another.
On the down side to that. There are so many I was getting confused over a few of the guys but I always figured it.
I just can’t with the Halloween trip. Lexi is the best person in the whole world. I need a friend like her. Wennie is also a badass.
It was nice to read about girls sticking up for each other and girls who will brings those down. It was real!
Jayla may be the best person in the world and still a little naïveté (which isn’t a bad thing). She always sees the good in people and will give them as many chances to redeem oneself. Even though her world is rocked in more ways than one, she still comes out on top!
Zach! Ugh! I went back and forth with this guys. I had to remember that he was in high school and lived in Florida. He made me happy, sad, excited and mad. Just like a guy lol
“You’re home now, Jaybird.”
“Karma is a bitch who owns her shit.”
