“Some boys can get rough, some don’t always listen when you tell them to stop, and some boys, they’re just monsters. You gotta be careful who you play with…” ~ Jax Declan
I’m a tease, always have been. In my teens, Jax Declan tried to warn me about staying away from the bad boys. The only boy I ever wanted was Jax. But, no matter how much I tried to play with him, he rejected me.
I haven’t seen … me.
I haven’t seen Jax Declan in years. A couple friends and I are going back to the Bayou for the summer. A little older now, and a bit wiser, I’ve decided that I’m going to find my teenage crush and I’m going to break him. This summer Jax Declan will play with me.
But the closer I get and the more I learn about the reserved, discreet, and sexy Jax Declan. Well, I’m starting to think that Jax Declan might just be one of those bad boys he tried to warn me about all those years ago.
Warning ~ This book contains explicit sex scenes, graphic language, and is intended for mature audiences.

Once you start reading you are not going to be able to stop. This story was sweet, heartwarming and dare I say beautiful. Jax and Emmie are two people who are clearly meant for one another. I enjoyed this story.
One of my favorite reads because Jax is such an amazing character with secrets and brooding attitude that would do anything to help and protect his brothers.
What a great book. First book from this author and I’m so glad I took a chance. Absolutely loved JAX and Emmie relationship. Great build up on their relationship. Hot and steamy and super hot sexy talk. Love the Declan brothers bond. Can’t wait to read book 2
Wow
When you and your friends go back to your old hometown and you meet up with your one true love. But there is a lot going on.

Jax was the first book in the Breaking the Declan Brothers by Kelly Gendron. It wasn’t my first book by the author and it won’t be my last.
Jax Declan and Emmie Rue had a history – not a relationship history, but a childhood history none the less. They grew up together but Jax was a few years older and wouldn’t give Emmie the time of day, no matter how hard she tried. When Emmie graduated high school, she left her childhood crush and the Bayou behind. Fast forward six years later and she returned for the summer with her two best friends.
Jax was written with a double POV, although, we received more of Emmie’s than Jax. The beginning was cute which set up the series perfectly. And the prologue was quite mysterious which had me trying to figure it out throughout the story.
All in all, I enjoyed the story but it took a little longer to get them fully together then I liked and it seemed a little repetitive. But I did like their teasing and flirting, I just wanted them to move on quicker. And then I didn’t like Emmie not communicating with Jax at a crucial point. I loved both characters and I loved them together but I wanted more so I felt a little disconnected at times. And I think in the end, that’s what summed it up – I really liked the story, but I didn’t totally love all of it and was craving something more from them.
I do, however, love how the series was staged, so I’m hopeful for more Jax and Emmie as the series progresses. And the mystery behind Slate – I’m definitely looking forward to his story next in Slate.
Love second chance romances. Emmie, Rayna and Lurlene decide to spend the summer in the Bayou. For Emmie and Rayna this is a return to their childhood lives and the Declan boys – Jax, Slate and Zeke. Emmie had a huge crush on Jax but he never gave her the time of day. Her goal is to break Jax over the summer. I loved how Kelly Gendron established the three best friends spending the summer together while giving us just the right mix of past/present to help us understand how the Declan boys fit into Emmie and Rayna’s world. I also loved the dual POV which gave us a better understanding of who the Declan boys are and what they are dealing with. Excited to read Slate and Zeke’s stories.
