Jane Eyre is the story of a small, plain-faced, intelligent, and passionate English orphan. Jane is abused by her aunt and cousin and then attends a harsh charity school. Through it all she remains strong and determinedly refuses to allow a cruel world to crush her independence or her strength of will. A masterful story of a woman’s quest for freedom and love. Jane Eyre is partly … autobiographical, and Charlotte Bronte filled it with social criticism and sinister Gothic elements. A must read for anyone wishing to celebrate the indomitable strength of will or encourage it in their growing children.

Believe it or not, this is the first time I have read Jane Eyre. Never watched any adaptations either. It was a fresh experience for me; however, I recognize many components that have made their way into stories since. It’s a memorable classic for a reason
My favorite quote:

I love this book. It’s always been one of my favorites. Yes, it’s a classic, which means a lot of description, but it you’ve never tried the classics, I recommend trying this one.
This classic is one of my favorite stories ever. The love between Mr. Rochester and Jane is complicated and angsty and I love it. Jane’s character is one of my favorite female characters from the classics. There’s not much I can say because the book pretty much speaks for itself.
Loved it.
Best read of my life!
At age twelve, I was inspired by the title character’s courage and tenacity. Inspires anew every time I read it.
One of my favorite classics, against which I tend to judge all other romances. Few can equal its wild story and chemistry between the main characters.
Jane could have done much better…
I read it because I enjoy classic fiction. This book was a puzzle to me. Why would Jane, a genuinely appealing and interesting young character, be so hung up over Rochester or St John Rivers? Both men were intolerable jackasses. I don’t get it, but now I’ve finally read this classic, so I’m good.
3+ out of 5 stars to Jane Eyre, a wonderful novel written in 1847 by Charlotte Brontë. I read this book on Spring break just prior to my 21st birthday, perhaps not the best time to take this beauty on. At 21, being a guy, and English major and forced to read a few books I didn’t think I’d like, this came at a time where although I liked it, I …
This book stands the test of time. One of my all time favorites!
Jane is a timeless heroine with a sense of self that could be inspiration for today’s most ardent feminist. She makes sacrifices, some for men, some for women, but she is always true to herself and her beliefs. My new favorite book!
Why did I wait until I am 55 to wait to read this wonderful book? I loved it
I first read Bronte’s novel at 13, when I discovered it in the library. I had no idea anyone else had ever heard of it. Seriously. I pronounced it “JANE EERIE,” which is apt enough, because Jane has haunted me through the years. I was and am drawn to the small furious poor and plain girl, alone in a harsh world.
Jane learns to hide her fury, but …
This book is a classic for a damned fine reason. Jane is a Cinderella character in many ways, but she ends (spoiler alert!) up stronger and makes her own way in the world. At the end, she and Edward are together, yes, but his love is a bonus. She’s saved herself.
Beautifully written story that draws you into the heart of the characters (particularly Jane) and their aspirations
A re-reader!
I’ve read this book many times. One of the only classics I really consider brilliant.
The love story between Edward Rochester and Jane is one of the greatest in literature.
Love
Very romantic with one of the strongest heroines ever created in literature.
