Jake the Growling Dog goes to Doggy Day was a super cute, make you feel good book, with a great message behind it. All 3 of my young boys really enjoyed the book and loved the colorful, beautifully drawn illustrations throughout. I think it would be geared to toddlers to young children but even older kiddos might benefit from it as it has little activities at the end such as: Jake encouraging new experiences, Adventure tips, and a breathing activity. I also really liked how the author included a picture at the end of the “real” Jake! I’d definitely recommend the book!
This book was super cute. I loved the way that it followed a routine. It did an amazing job at showing children a positive trait. The illustrations were very detailed. I also like the extra material in the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to instill a positive life lasting trait in their child.
What an adorable story about working through feelings. I read this with my almost 6 year old daughter. She has been learning in kindergarten about trying new things and the feelings that go with that so this was a perfect companion book to open those conversations even more. We both loved that Jake’s best friend was a squirrel, in real life we sometimes have the most unlikely of friends and this was perfect! Jake even took his stuffy to daycare to help him be more comfortable.
As a mom, I loved that there were activities and prompts to discuss even more about what we learned in the story. I think my favorite was about ways to comfort. My daughter uses stuffed animals to help comfort her and she got so excited when she saw Jake’s bunny. In this world of uncertainty, it was nice to read a story for young children about ways we can cope with those feelings and that they are normal feelings to have.

This story really encompasses the big feelings young ones can experience, and teaches them how to deal with it. Included in the adorable story, you will find discussion
ideas to help you talk through the story with your child.
This is another in the series of Jake the Growling Dog by Samantha Shannon. This wonderful book can be enjoyed alone or as part of the series which helps teach social-emotional learning through the adventures of Jake. This time, Jake is off to daycare where he is introduced to many new experiences which cause him stress. When Jake experiences stress, it allows him to teach the children reading his book to learn coping strategies and skills they can use when they encounter stress as well! Shannon has used this literary model with previous Jake books before and they were well received. Her story here is also colorful, entertaining, and educational. It is sure to be a hit for educators, parents, and children.

Cute and relatable story for kids. I read this to my 20 month old and although she may not have gotten the meaning of the book she seemed to enjoy it very much! The rhymes where her favourite part and the super cute illustrations kept her attention for the whole story.
Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Daycare by Samantha Shannon is quite a cute, feel-good children’s book, that is suitable for all ages. Join Jake when he’s off to daycare. He’s worried about what’s in store. Going somewhere new can be scary–trying something different, even more. As I was reading this little book, I kept thinking that it was a great story for little kids. I then let my six year old nephew read it and he said it was a great story. Five stars isn’t enough for this wonderful little book.
This is a very cute and adorable children’s book about a dog and his friend. I personally loved the rhymes that went along with the cute illustrations. I found this to be a relatable book and Jake to be a very relatable character. I think that this would be a wonderful book to share with you child who is going off to daycare, kindergarten, or camp for the first time in their lives. There are so many animals pictured and incorporated into the story that I think any child will love it, but especially those that love animals. I don’t have any kids of my own to read the story to, but I would think that with the eye-popping illustrations and strong message that are given it should be a book on all kid’s bookshelves.
When my son asks me if he can read a book to me I know it has to be good. Jake the Growling Dog goes to Doggy Daycare is a superbly illustrated book with a lesson to learn. We all have, to some extent, anxiety about change. Jake takes us on his journey through the perils of “his first day at school”.
I read this book to my son and then the next night he asked me for the book so he could read it again for himself…… that relates to him really liking it
I absolutely loved this children’s book! I read it to my six-year-old and he adored the squirrel friend. Jake goes to doggy day camp for a couple of days and he is full of anxiety at this new, unknown experience. So, his bff the squirrel tags along to help him through it. Jake soon finds there was nothing to worry about. What made this book special to me was the fact that the author put in the back of the book tips on how the child can deal with unknown experiences and that the feelings the child is feeling are normal and ok. I honestly have never seen anything like that and find it SO helpful!
Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Daycare: A Children’s Book about New Experiences, Friendship, Stress Relief, and Kindness

This was such a cute book with a good source of education with it. Jake is nervous and worried about going to doggy daycare. For him this is a really stressful situation. I really enjoyed how his friends were able to help him get through this and he was able to realize there was fun to be had once he let himself get past his apprehension. The illustrations in this book were awesome and the activities in the back were helpful and fun. I think this book is good for all ages. I read it to my granddaughters and they loved it. I recommend this book.
This is the first book that I have read from this author and I’m glad I did. My son and I read this book together and we both loved it. This book is about overcoming obstacles, kindness, and friendship. This is the second book of the series and now my son and I are going to read the first one as well. My son learned a lot from this book.
Jake the dog is very scared about going to daycare. He doesn’t know what to expect so it makes him not want to go. Jake is so afraid he runs away but his best friend Neet helps him along the way. Will Jake overcome his fear and meet new friends or will he be too afraid?

5 stars!
The story was adorable and the illustrations were perfect. The colors and scenery in the book I think, would appeal to children. The story itself is a great lesson in learning that new experiences may be scary at first but, you may come to love every minute. I really enjoyed how Neet was Jake’s best friend and followed him to daycare and gave him the support and motivation he needed to be self confident. The exercises at the end of the book are a sweet way to get involved and talk to children about their confidence and teach them it’s okay to be scared but it will pass.
What an adorable book! Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Dare Care by Samantha Shannon and Illustrations by, Lei Yang. This wonderful children’s book is about a dog named Jake, who tends to growl a lot, who gets to go to day care for the first time. The story talks about fears and anxieties. Also, how to overcome some of those fears and anxieties. I think it was a great way for kids to understand that it is going to be okay for their dogs to go to day care as well as for them to go to day care as well. The illustrations where fun and colorful. There were portrayed the story very well, which I think made the story just that much better! I was thoroughly impressed with this book and will definitely suggest it to people with little ones!

I have read another one of Samantha Shannon’s Jake the Growling Dog books to my younger children and they loved it time and again. This made it a pretty easy choice to scoop up the next one in the series to share with them. In a time when the world if full of stressors for our children this book gives them some sweet subtle lessons in how to deal with the big changes that they don’t understand any more than we do. I loved the bright illustrations and how fun and sweet the story keeps things even when the subject at hand is a deep and heavy one at times. I look forward to sharing this many many times with the littles in my life for many years to come. This is also a fabulous choice for a gift because who doesn’t want a new book even as a kiddo!?
