Jake Dean crushed any certainties I thought I had in life. He took my perfectly sculpted existence and tipped it upside down. I let him. I actually pushed him to do it, if I’m being honest, which isn’t something I overly pride myself on. Aubrey King was never supposed to be mine. I guess even now, she’s not. Not really. She made me question my character, my morals. But I go back. Every. Single. … Every. Single. Time. I’m addicted to her.
Our story is about faith. About taking the chance at love. Taking the leap against whatever doubts that may consume you, against whatever you may think is right.
Our story is about overcoming self-doubt. Being true to yourself. It isn’t hearts and roses. We’ve made mistakes. Ones that others would never forgive us for. Some we might never forgive ourselves for.
Our love has caused an immense amount of pain. Not just to one another. But to our loved ones. We’re good people. Or so we thought.
We fell in love. Was it right? No. Will we survive our own decisions? Who knows. All we can be certain of is that through our own demons, through our mistakes, we have to have faith in what we share.

“I’m being strangled by my own bad decisions.”
I accidentally happened upon the writing duo of Haley Jenner and now I’m addicted. Not just a little, it’s bad. I’ve fallen hard for all the characters in the Leaves of a Maple series. The authors don’t take the easy road, they tackle hard subjects and write beautifully broken characters guaranteed to rip your heart out. But, even though it’s a painful journey, it’s worth it. You’ll come out stronger and fuller on the other side.
I met Jake as a kid, and that’s what some of his friends and family still call him. He’s all grown up now though. He’s a mechanic and a musician, wearing grease and ink and piercings. He’s deep and soulful, showing his heart through his music. He’s a good man with integrity. Or at least he was. His heart took him to a place that he never thought he would go. He tries to fight the pull, but he’s helpless to resist the siren call of the woman he loves. He didn’t mean to fall, but the heart wants what the heart wants, right? Will he survive the fall?
She used to be the life of every party, but life has sucked the joy out of her. Only one thing brings her peace these days, but that same thing brings pain. Her feelings for him snuck up on her when she wasn’t prepared. She tried to hide, but now it’s too late. She’s fallen. He’s ready to catch her, but she refuses to let him. So they will both go up in flames, living in hell, hurting each other and themselves. Will there be anything left in the ashes to resurrect?
Oh my broken heart, how much can it endure while reading these brilliant stories by these amazing authors? I’ll let you know, because I can’t stop now, I’m ready for a fairy tale and I’m hoping the sexy Riding Hood has mercy on her Big Bad Wolf because I’m kind of attached to him already. The line forms here…
I have been hanging out for Jake’s story! Loved watching Jake grow in book1 Leaves of a Maple series! OMG Jakey is all man now,and oh so sexy, just swooning a bit! But seriously this story was all heart, l cried and hurt so much for both Aubrey & Jake! This does end with a HEA! Lovin this author duet Haley & Jenner they are fabulous together! Looking forward to Bennett’s story!
Finally got to Jake and Aubrey’s book and i cant believe i waited so long to read this. I read Archer ages ago and i loved that book and I’m kicking myself for how long it has taken me to get to Jake.
Well i loved this book just as much as Archer we met Jake and Aubrey in this book and both being Annabelle’s best friends we got to know them quite a bit and this Story pretty much started with a bang and i didn’t want to put it down at all.
We knew that Aubrey was basically living a life she didn’t want so it was interesting to see the connection fire up between these two and i loved how strong it became so quickly. I loved how strong Aubrey was even when she thought she was weak but there was never a time throughout the book i thought what the hell are you doing that for i actually felt for her. I wasn’t expecting this to be emotional but this book got me quite a few times.
Oh my goodness i need a Jake in my life especially what he has hiding in his pants but besides the sexual side of Jake he was so sweet and always had his heart on his sleeve and he was a lot more emotional than i thought he would be, he was such a softy without looking like a pussy and i loved him for that. I just wanted to grab him and hug him so much.
This story was awesome i loved every bit about it, yes there love story started out in not the right way but there was so much more to this story than Aubrey already being in a relationship. I really loved the writing in this book it really showed you how special your friends are and that we may hurt them but most of the time we don’t mean too.
That’s this thing i loved about this story it’s about family and friends and just finding your happy after. I can’t wait to read the next book and i certainly won’t be waiting as long.
Jake is the second book in the Leaves of a Maple series and I need to tell you that I love it! It was much better than book one. I fell in love with Jack and Aubrey’s story. I was hooked from page one and by turning the pages of this book I could feel passion, pain, anger and love. I really enjoyed it. This series is getting better… Now it’s time for Bennett
Like the first book in the series there are highs, lows and some poor communication but captures how the road to happy ever after is never smooth sailing.
Jake would be proud of the masterpiece their story produced tho
All I can say is WOW! What a perfect blend on angst, love, and heartache. Can’t say enough how much I love J-Baby…even in Archer he shined like the diamond he is and now he’s getting his own chance at love. With love comes heartbreak though and reading about his and Aubrey’s journey is truly an experience. Another great book by the ladies behind Haley Jenner!
Aubrey was four when her parents separated. Her father was married to his work and her mother was still holding a candle for Steve. She’s grown up with her mother’s artistic influence and Steve’s easy way. While she loves her father although he lets her down with his work taking precedence. She aspires to be more like him and make him proud of her. He introduced her to David thinking that he’d be a good fit for her and be a good provider. Unfortunately he too was a workaholic and very cold emotionally. Feeling despondent she goes to drown her sorrows and runs into Jake. One thing leads to another and they spend a night of bliss together, their chemistry is off the charts. They both know it’s wrong because of David but just can’t fight the draw between them. Jake is hopelessly in love with Aubrey and he knows that she loves him too. He wants it all but she is being stubborn and refuses to leave David. Why is Aubrey holding back? Is it because of her family breaking up all those years ago?
After reading Archer, I knew I had to read Jake’s story! He was an amazing and integral part of Archer and Annabelle’s book, and he has grown up to become a wonderful, sexy man. He and Aubrey start off with a bang, but there are decisions made, regrets, and doubts that kept them apart. I love how their circle of friends and family are there to lend their support. This series is one I just have to follow!
Oh my f**king goodness these ladies know how to write. Their talent is astonishing. Haley Jenner pulled me in deep, deep, DEEP with their book Archer, and of course I had to fall right into Jake. While this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommended reading Archer first as there is so much build-up and character development that will make you feel even more intimate with these characters.
Let’s start with Jake. Wow. He just might be the PERFECT book boyfriend. Although he is the “softer” of the two Dean boys, he is no pushover and he’s hard in all the right ways, at all the right times! And yes, I’m alluding to sexy times, but these traits stand for non-sexy times too! Although it must be said that he possesses some piercings that…well…just make sure you have some way to relieve tension. Wink wink. I digress. His charm and the true goodness in his heart deserve audible swoons. It’s so easy to understand why he is really loved. He’s a damn good man and when he gives, he gives you ALL of him—heart and mind.
And I love Aubrey. I do. But she also really pissed me off! I guess I understand why she did the things she did, but still. It’s Jakey!!! Honestly, my feelings are a testament to Haley Jenner. Aubrey’s personality, insecurities, and real flaws were so well written that you wanted to cry with her when her usual bluntness and shine started to die…but you also wanted to kick her in the arse at the same time to get her head on straight! Maybe it’s just me. LOL.
I haven’t written too much about the plotline I suppose, but take the leap into this wonderful, beautiful, heartbreaking Leaves of a Maple world. It’s worth the glorious pain and frustrations. I love that Jake and Aubrey’s story is not perfect, and that it leaves some real world impact on their close-knit group. Haley Jenner has written a perfectly imperfect love story and I’m once again anxious to see where they will take me next. 5 brilliant stars for Jake!
Aubrey King is best friends with Annabelle and has been in a relationship with David for years but lately she has been struggling with the relationship. Aubrey finds she is no longer happy but at the same time she is afraid to leave him.
Jake Dean is a mechanic who works for Aubrey’s step-dad Steve and also is a singer. He has had a crush on Aubrey for a long time and after one night of alcohol he finds himself having sex with Aubrey.
As much as Aubrey wants Jake and is drawn to him will she be able to get the courage to leave David or will she constantly go back to him no matter what happens?
This was such an emotional book that was just as heavy as the previous book but in a different way.
I liked Aubrey and hated that there was something that was constantly returning her to David no matter how much she cared about Jake. I was so mad at Aubrey at times for what was happening but I knew there had to be a reason that kept her so miserable with David.
Jake was absolutely awesome and I definitely want my own Jake!! Jake was so caring and was falling for Aubrey so fast but you could see what the uncertainty of their “relationship” was doing to him. My heart broke continually for Jake and it destroyed me to see him get so low.
There was so much chemistry between Jake and Aubrey and they both cared about each other so much but there was also David to consider. I hated David and how he treated Aubrey and I had no idea why she was still with him.
The blow ups in this book were epic and sometimes so heart wrenching!!
I was shocked when the truth was revealed by Aubrey to her dad and things fall into place. I was a little mad at her for what she did next but I did understand why she did what she did to find herself.
I loved the end and how Aubrey proved her love for everyone to see.- By Rebecca
Book 2 of the Leaves of Maples series. I fell in love with Jake, this series is one of the best series out there
Heartbreakingly good. I have to say Jake is my fave. His friendship with Annabelle is amazing, I love how they have a close relationship and it’s completely platonic. He’s a very deep, caring beautiful soul.
I didn’t like what Audrey does to him however you do find out why and it’s sad she felt pressured to do that.
I loved these two together such great chemistry, J- baby and Strawberries
Haley Jenner, you did it again. You broke me down and built me back up. Jake and Aubrey’s story is filled with heartache and is sometimes hard to read, but so worth it in the end!! This is a forbidden love story at its finest and I absolutely recommend this to anyone!!!
First off, I really love this cover. I think it’s one of my favorite covers ever.
Second off, I really loved this book. I really love Jake. He’s great and I really enjoyed getting to read his story.
I could see a huge improvement in the author’s writing from Archer to Jake. And I mean that in a good way. My biggest gripes about Archer was that a lot of the times it was over-descriptive, rambling, and needed another run through with an editor. But I saw none of that with Jake. Great improvement, Haley Jenner!
This book wasn’t as emotional for me as Archer was, but I will admit that I did cry a bit. This author knows how to write heartbreak. She knows how to inflict that pain on the reader and I LOVE IT. This solidifies the fact that I’m a masochist. Because who enjoys getting their heart ripped out over fictional characters? I do.
It was a longer read, not as long as Archer, but that’s okay. I love longer books. I love getting more time to spend with the characters. I also love that we still got to see snippets of Archer and Annabelle, and oh my god, the wedding was fabulous.
Once I get home from work in an hour, I’m starting on Bennett. Can’t wait! I have fallen in love with this author and her characters
