Meet Jake Fonko, America’s coolest covert agent.
An ex-surfer and decorated Ranger working in Army Intelligence, Jake Fonko is dispatched to Saigon during the final days of the Vietnam War, temporarily on loan to the CIA. Jake figures that he’ll ride a desk, relax in Saigon, and collect a paycheck — but the CIA has other plans.
The agency mysteriously ships him off to Cambodia on a top-secret … him off to Cambodia on a top-secret mission to make contact with an agency asset who’s been out of the loop for two years. The trail has gone cold, and Jake begins to wonder why the CIA chose him, a soldier with little espionage expertise.
But before he can find the answer, the Khmer Rouge take over Cambodia and Jake quickly finds himself fighting for his life in unfriendly territory. With no allies, no backup, and no hope of evacuation, Jake must rely on his ingenuity and wits if he hopes to keep breathing.
Will he find out why the CIA sent him on this mission? Can he survive the killing fields long enough to track down the target? And will he make it out of chaotic and corrupt Cambodia alive to tell his tale?
Blending a dash of Flashman’s history, a helping of Travis McGee’s lifestyle, and a hint of James Bond’s suave cool, Jake Fonko MIA is an adventure you won’t believe, except… what if it’s all true?

Lots of fun. The hero get dropped into the middle of a situation about which he doesn’t have any reliable information and just keeps playing it as it lies. He’s resourceful and picks up unusual allies. I’d like to see him in action again.
Even though Jake Fonko hasn’t grown up, I want to BE Jake Fonko when I grow up!
Great look at the closing days of the Vietnam war and the fall of Cambodia. Terrific plot, lots of twists and an interesting view of the CIA involvement.
I will definitely see what Jake does next.
could not keep my interest
Have read all of the Jake Fonko series. Enjoyed them all.
Love Jake Franko!
A great read from beginning to end! The main character has a keen sense of justice, and is willing to go to extremes to see that justice is done…even if that means breaking the law. That’s enough for me. I found myself cheering him on in his mission to rescue the world from a bad situation.
Pretty formulaic. Not very realistic.
The book started slowly, but the pace soon picked up. I would not say that it ever became a page-turner, but it was an interesting story. For the most part the story flowed well.
I always look for editing errors, places where I have to say what is going on here, places where a word is used strangely or seems out of place, this book had a very few …
Enjoyed the action
Fake.
Good book
Was a OK book not really a page turner but it was ok
Great twisty ending. Unfortunately as the first of a series it sorta left me hanging with incomplete resolution of the plot line.
Great read! Fonko is a great character!
,
I had a good story line
B Hesse pflinger spins an exciting and believable yarn. Good charachter build. Surprising inter actions. More twists than a cold snake on a hot griddle. Best of all, its part of a series so you can read on and on!
This is one of those books that starts out fairly realistic, but then things start happening that make you wonder if anyone could have that much good luck… shots missing, meeting the person who can help them escape, etc. Maybe there are people who really are that lucky. Either way, it makes for a great story. The author does a great job of …
Fun tongue in cheek character.
