The Montgomery Ink: Colorado Springs series continues with a couple fighting to keep what they thought they had and gain what they didn’t know they needed.Roxie Montgomery met her soul mate when she least expected it. When he asked her to marry him, she thought her happily ever after was only just beginning. Then, she found that walking into the sunset was much harder than her favorite books made … books made it out to be. After a crushing loss, she feels as though she doesn’t know her husband anymore, or rather…she doesn’t know herself.
Carter Marshall has loved Roxie since the first time he saw her. But as the days pass between them, so does the distance. He doesn’t know how to show her that he’s all in, and honestly doesn’t know if she’s in at all. When an accident changes everything, they’ll have to decide if what they have can be salvaged, or if starting over is the answer. Or even possible.
Without fighting, without a true new beginning, sometimes, the remnants of what was lost can leave anyone jagged, shells of what they were before. It will take more than the idea of forever for Roxie and Carter to find themselves again, but as the Montgomerys know, nothing worth fighting for is easy.

OMG!! Even if this rips your heart out at times, I just loved it! It’s such a fabulous look at a relationship and how two people can drift apart with out even realizing it and the journey they take to find themselves, and each other again. Love isn’t easy, and Carter and Roxie are definitely not easy! They love each other so much, but they can’t find the words to convey that. They have to go through hell and back to finally realize they only want each other. I don’t want to over simply the story, at times it had me in tears, but them it makes your heart so full of love….I couldn’t put it down!!! Fabulous job Carrie!!!!
This story was an emotional roller coaster ride. Roxy and Carter’s pain was raw and real and even though I was internally yelling at them to just talk to each other it had to play out their way. A great story!
2.5-3 stars
I have mixed feelings about this book. The first part of this book I felt was very repetitive, which frankly got a little boring. It was just repeated conversations about how they both still love each other and want to talk about their marriage but they both refused to actually say a word.
Once they actually start talking the book picked up and we finally learn why they stopped talking. I actually enjoying this part of the book because it was the two of them growing and learning together. They were actually making an effort, which they both weren’t doing in the beginning. They found their love again and we’re stronger for it.
Jagged Ink
Wonderful characters and a very realistic story that is easy to imagine happening to anybody, it tugs on the heartstrings quite a bit also
Wow! An amazing book. Extremely entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong and intriguing characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily listened and reviewed an Audio Copy of this book.
I think what I loved most about Jagged Ink, is the fact it was after what everyone would think is the Happy Ever After ending. Most books are focused on finding your other half, but few actually tackle what happens after they meet.
Carrie Ann Ryan asks the question “Is love enough?” in Jagged Ink. We’re gotten peeks of Roxie and Carter’s marriage through the eyes of her sisters in the Montgomery Ink: Colorado Springs series. It’s obvious they’re keeping secrets from the rest of the family, a feat in itself considering the Montgomery clan. Those secrets come to a head when Carter is injured saving Thea from an explosion in her bakery.
The theme throughout this book is communication. Roxie and Carter both love each other, but neither feels that’s enough to overcome the rift that’s grown between them. Carter thought he was doing the right thing by letting Roxie push him away, and Roxie didn’t know who she was, let alone who she is with Carter. Both acknowledge, more than once, all they need to do is talk, but that’s easier said than done.
Neither one is ready to acknowledge the event that brought them to this impasse. Can they finally break the silence and talk about it? Is love really enough, or is letting go the answer? These are the questions Ryan’s characters will have to tackle to find out if their HEA is real.
Okay . . . Jagged Ink by Carrie Ann Ryan is the 3rd book in the Montgomery Ink: Colorado Springs series and it features Carter and Roxie, a married couple who have been at odds in previous books. I knew this book would tear my heart out and boy did it ever.
If I had one piece of advice for readers interested in this book, it would be DON’T SKIMP ON THE TISSUES. I can say that I went through at least a box while reading this book, many of which I had to use to wipe the tears off my kindle.
As I said Carter and Roxie’s marriage has been in trouble for several books. But when Jagged Ink opens, Carter is in the hospital recovering from wounds suffered in the last book in the series. When he is discharged, he does return to his home with Roxie . . . . .
. . . . but he discovers as soon as he walks in the door that Roxie has filed for divorce. One of the most devastating scenes I’ve ever read. He knew things were bad, but wasn’t expecting that. As soon as he is mostly recovered, he moves out believing that things are over.
There is SO much unresolved pain and suffering between Roxie and Carter and to be honest, a great deal of this conflict is because neither one can bring themselves to actually talk to the other. Both have so much pain bottled up inside of them.
Once Carter has moved out, the two are finally able to have a real conversation about their lives, their marriage and how things have changed between them. They start dating again and slowly find their way back together.
Jagged Ink lives up to its name. It cut me deep, so very deep. I was actually investigating windshield wiper-type devices for eyeballs while reading this one because tears do make reading very difficult. But I will say the tears were worth it in the end.
Roxie and Carter have to deal with some things in their past (trigger warning for miscarriage) and then have to deal with who each has become since their marriage in order to find their way out of the darkness. But they do. They definitely do.
If you need a good cry or a book to put you through the wringer, Jagged Ink is the romance for you. And if you want to experience Roxie and Carter from the start, read all of the books in the series. You will find a new family and lots of love.
Book Disclosure: An ebook was provided by the author.
Roxie and Carter are married but are having difficulties. They have quit talking and after Carter is hurt in a fire, he comes home to find divorce papers. After he heals, he leaves but both are miserable. When Carter goes out with another woman, he realizes he wants to make his marriage work and goes to talk to Roxie. Their problem is communication and until they talk their problems and fears out, nothing will change.
Fairly good story but a lot of things are repeated too many times. Some might need tissues and a cold shower.
I’ve been curious about Carter and Roxie’s relationship for some time, but the beginning of their story was frustrating. Mainly because of the repetitive lamenting they both did during the first few chapters. Once Roxie and Carter pulled their heads out of the sand and decided to communicate with one another is when the story really grabbed my attention.
3.5 stars
I had been waiting for Roxie and Carter’s story. They always seemed to be on the edge of everything happening within the Montgomery universe. I had been waiting to find out the cause of their drama. I did enjoy the story and getting to watch Roxie and Carter reconnect. They take you through a lot of different emotions while trying to find themselves.
The 1st half of the story did drag a little but other than that it was an enjoyable read.
When Roxie married Carter she thought that their life would be a fairytale. When tragedy strikes their love is tested and she wants to get back to what they had but doesn’t know how to do it.
Carter believed that the love that he and Roxie shared could overcome everything but instead of facing the obstacles between them together it is driving them farther apart.
When the tensions between them climax will they be able to realize what is truly important to them and find their way back to each other or are the obstacles between them too much to overcome?
This is an emotional story of recapturing a love that is put to the test and emerging stronger for it.
Jagged Ink by Carrie Ann Ryan is another book in the Montgomery Family of books. This book is the third in the Colorado Springs series. The series while focused on the Colorado Springs area does allude to other in the Montgomery family in different locations and introduces us to Liam who will star in his own book in another series.
We have been introduced to both Roxie and Carter in prior books in this series. We know they are married and know that they are struggling, but do not know why. Everything comes to head when Carter helped save her sister’s bakery. He is badly burned and rushed to the hospital. Roxie stays with him and helps him home to heal. Only there are divorce papers lying out on the table; papers he did not know about. Neither Roxie or Carter speak about what is in their hearts. Neither can address the large incident that caused both of them to stopped talking, but sits on their hearts.
I found myself heart broken for Roxie and Carter. I found both Roxie and Carter relatable characters. I actually cried with them a couple of times….SIGH. Carrie Ann Ryan has written another great Montgomery family story.
