*I received this book as an arc from Netgalley.com & publisher Author Collective 20 for an honest review.* This is the first book I’ve read by Louise Dawn & I loved it!! Such a well written book that had tragedy, love, action, suspense, laughter, tears, friendships, wonderful characters (incl the secondary characters) & I will be reading the rest of the MIT series starting with the first book. This is a second chance romance between Derek “Slater” Banez & Kathleen “Kat” Flynn. Slater was dealing with his PTSD (that helped in ruining their relationship the first time around) & recovery from an injury and Kat was dealing with a tragedy of her own that he knew nothing about because neither Kat or his cousin Casey never told him. He has Kat’s incident investigated only to find out it was a serial killer that only she survived. Jade in the Snow can be read as a stand alone but I think would be even better by reading the series in order. Either way you will not be disappointed!! Thanks to Netgalley.com & the publisher for approving me!
First read for me by this author, this story deals with a former couple. Derek and Kathleen. Derek is former military and suffers from PTSD. They developed a relationship and due to certain tragedies, they broke apart. When they meet up again, they realize that their love never died. Filled with action, suspense, hot love making, leads to a wonderful HEA for the both of them. This was my first read buy this author and the 4th book in the series, I will be going back to gobble up the first three, as I absolutely loved this book 4.5 stars*****
*****I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book provided by NetGalley*****
**I received a copy of Jade in the Snow from Net Galley and Author Collective 20 in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions expressed below are mine and not solicited in any way**
Jade in the Snow by Louise Dawn is the fourth book in her Mobile Intelligence Team series. I haven’t read the previous three books so this was easy to read as a stand alone.
Anyway I LOVED this book because it did such a wonderful job explaining PTSD (Slater) and also Kat attack by a serial killer was handled also with TLC. Both have PTSD and are building new lives Kat is motivational speaker and author and Slater in now a Special Agent in Charge at the FBI. They will both have to use both his SF skills and she’ll have to dig deep down to fight back when the killer tries to kill the one that got away.
The addition of the senior citizens at the Piece Club (not quilting but puzzles) and how much they love and protect her is very sweet. Plus the men of both the FBI and MIT to help Derek solve the mystery of who the serial killer is.
This is the 4th book in this series. Derek and Kat were together at the start of this book and due to life that has happened to them both they seperated under upsetting circumstances. After some time has passed their paths cross again but Kat has a serial killer after her. this is a really good ex military romance very well written and the thread of the story has a really great twist to it. an emotional and on your edge of the seat book. Now I am going to go back and read the first three books as this author is very good.
Louise Dawn’s latest Slater thriller effectively mixes pacing, plot and fascinating characters to create a page turner you won’t want to put down. She addresses the important PTSD issue with the right balance of sensitivity and visceral reality. It gives us a good insight into the complexities of Slater’s motivations and struggles. And when it comes to creating effective descriptions of romantic encounters, few do it better. A great read that will make you want to dip back into her Slater cannon for more. Highly recommended.
I am hooked, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I am hooked on this series and this author and I can’t get enough. The fourth former member of the MIT, Slater, who we have met and I’ve been dying for his story and what happened with Kat, his one and only love. The two were together for years and after many months of Slater’s PTSD, which was taking a toll on their relationship, he makes a mistake, a mistake that costs him dearly. Now almost two years later, he runs into Kat at his cousin’s apartment. He can’t get over the hurt that she ignored him when he was injured years ago but when he finds out why….he’s shattered once again but this time he’ll be there for her….
Oh boy oh boy oh boy….the emotions were coming off of the pages in waves….heartache, heartbreak, betrayal, PTSD, love, and to top it off, suspense, action, steam…ahem the steam….oh my. I was a bit worried about Slater and the two years they were apart, but the author surprised me and I’m so HAPPY with what he didn’t do while they were apart…made the characters, the love and the sincerity of their emotions that much more. I LOVED these two and the returning of past characters, always having each other’s backs.
The story flowed beautifully with a couple of twists I didn’t see coming and the ending had me holding my breath…HOLY SMOKES….that blew me out of the water and white knuckling it throughout it…now that was suspense and action…I am a huge huge fan and can’t wait for more !!!
Jade in the Snow is an action-packed adventure! This can be read as a stand alone, but is more enjoyable if you read the series in order. Slater is determined to start fresh with a new position, until the one he pushed away comes back into his life. Kat is so strong and will win you over from the moment you meet her. Louise Dawn has a way of inviting the reader into the story and making you feel as though your a part of it. Action, romance and drama – this book has it all!
