As the lead songwriter for Jacob’s Ladder, the last thing Gabe Renard needs is a debilitating case of writer’s block. After years of meaningless one night stands, he’s finding it hard to pen the love-filled ballads the label is requesting. In an effort to clear his mind, Gabe takes his jeep off-roading in the North Georgia Mountains. When a wrong-turn leads to him getting stuck more than just … creatively, he’s forced to call for help. To his surprise, the “Ray” who has been sent by Hart Wreckers to his aid is actually “Rae”—a sexy-as-hell spitfire in a pair of tight-as-hell jeans. The combination of Rae’s sassy mouth and rocking body might be the inspiration Gabe needs. But for the first time since becoming a rock star, his advances have been shot down.
Reagan Hart has never been a fan of musicians. In fact, just the mention of one might cause her to throw a tire tool. Her disgust for them started when she was just eight and her mother ran off with a traveling country singer, and it only worsened when at seventeen, her rocker boyfriend knocked her up before blowing out of town. As a single mother taking care of her family’s collision business, Rae doesn’t have time for hook ups, much less a relationship. And if she did make time, a musician would be last on her list, even one as good-looking as Gabe Renard.
Can Gabe find the words to prove not only to Rae, but himself, that she’s the only one for him?

Gabe and Rae’s storyline is a hoot. Writer’s block and being shot down by his latest muse is not what the Rockstar is used to. Will gay be able to convince the spitfire he is a good guy and possibly her HEA. You need to read this fun, laugh out loud, easy read to find out. Can’t wait for Eli story.
This is the first book in the Jacob’s Ladder series, but this is certainly not the first book that Gabe has made an appearance. This isn’t your typical “rocker” type book. There is low angst, however there are some angsty moments, in Rae and Gabe’s story. (Thank goodness) The storyline is solid and flows. Honestly, I found it to be a fun read. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger.
I have only read a few books (The Vicious Cycle Series) by this Author, and loved them. So I was excited to read this. Where I didn’t miss anything by not reading the Runaway Train: The Complete Series I wish that I had read it, and I will be sure to go back and read it. Jacob’s Ladder is not your normal Rock band, because they are Country! I loved that little twist. Gabe comes off as an opinionated jerk when he first meets Rae. Which goes against everything the book has tried to portray him as. An introvert with writers block. Rae being a single mother is hypocritical at times but she has reasons for how she feels. This book had tons of feelings! Can’t wait to start Jacob’s Ladder: Eli.

Jacob’s Ladder: Gabe was a sweet, sexy, and entertaining standalone contemporary romance, and I loved it! Katie Ashley is an extremely talented author, and I fell in love with her writing style and books after reading the Runaway Train series and The Proposition series from her several years ago. I was so excited when I found out that she was going to write the Jacob’s Ladder series, a spin-off to the Runaway Train series. The storyline and characters she created in Jacob’s Ladder: Gabe were amazing, and I loved them so much.
Gabe and Rae were wonderful and I loved them and their story. I loved their personalities and red-hot chemistry together, and I enjoyed how their relationship progressed throughout. I loved reading the book from both Gabe and Rae’s POV, and I enjoyed most of their banter and interactions with each other. There were a few parts that I didn’t like, but other than that, I really don’t have anything else negative to say. I loved the secondary characters as well, and I truly enjoyed getting to see a few familiar faces from the Runaway Train series. Jacob’s Ladder: Gabe was a very enjoyable read from beginning to end, and I was extremely happy with the conclusion to Gabe and Rae’s story.
Jacob’s Ladder: Gabe was a sweet, sexy, charming, and entertaining standalone contemporary romance, and an amazing start to the Jacob’s Ladder series! Katie Ashley did a fantastic job with this book, and even though there were a few things here and there that I didn’t love, I truly enjoyed Gabe and Rae’s story from start to finish and was very pleased with the outcome. It’s been a few years since I’ve read anything from Katie Ashley, but she is without a doubt one of my favorite contemporary romance authors, and I am so excited to read more from her, especially the rest of the Jacob’s Ladder series!
‘Runaway Train’ series introduced me to Katie Ashley. I love her writing style and thanks to her I was hooked to music/rocker romances ‘Jacobs Ladder: Gabe’ is the first book of ‘Jacobs Ladder’ series and it can be read as a standalone. If you read ‘Runaway Train’ series you will not be foreign to our hero Gabe Renard. Jacob Ladder is a famous country-rock band. Gabe is the drummer and the songwriter of the band. The other two members of the band is Gabe’s twin Eli and his sister Abby, who is married to lead singer of Runaway Train, Jake Slater.
When Gabe faces a writer’s block and cannot get rid of it, he decides being away from everyone in nature might help so he takes Jake’s jeep off-roading. Who knew taking a wrong-turn, getting stuck in middle of nowhere and calling ‘Hart Wreckers’ for help to get his jeep out will lead him to his muse. Reagan Hart, aka Rea, works for her dad’s wrecking business. Thanks to a Jacobs Ladder fan co-worker, she ends up on going for Gabe’s rescue on her day off. She is smart, beautiful, sassy, hard working single mom, who is not a fan of musicians. Her dislike is caused by abandonment of her mom and rocker baby-daddy. Gabe is cocky, smart and super hot. Since he is a famous rock-star, he thinks all the women will throw their selves to him. When Rea turns down all his advances, his ego takes a big hit. What is more shocking for Gabe is after his encounter with Rea, his writer’s block vanishes and he is determined not to lose his muse until he is done writing all the songs required for the band’s album. So he goes to see with a proposal. Will Rea accept his proposal and help him to achieve his goal? Will Gabe be able to change Rea’s thoughts about musicians? If you want to know the answers to these questions and learn all dirty little deeds you need to read the book
Overall, ‘Jacobs Ladder: Gabe’ sweet, heartwarming and sexy read that I really enjoyed. Also, Rea’s son Lincoln, aka Linc, is adorable. You will fall in love with his cuteness I cannot wait to read Eli’s story. In my mind I kind of paired him up with Kennedy, who is one of Rea’s sisters but this is totally my imagination so don’t count on it LOL!
Would I recommend this book: Yes.
Would I re-read this book: Yes.
Would I read future books by this author: Yes.

Jacob’s Ladder: Gabe – Jacob’s Ladder # 1 by Katie Ashley
Jacob’s Ladder is a band that consists of twins Eli and Gabe and sister Abby. Gabe doesn’t feel he lives up to the standard set by his twin and is comfortable taking a more back seat roll as drummer and song writer in the band.
Reagan “Rae” is a single mom, running her own business and lives with her sisters and elderly aunt. She has amazing family support and seems to have a great relationship with her sister.
A couple of things…. Rae is KICK A$$. She is a strong woman who uses her voice and isn’t afraid to speak her mind to her family or the men in her life to be heard. Gabe started out as a really cocky dou***. I did not like him and his attitude one bit and almost closed the book on him. THEN he holds the door open for her and I realized he is hiding something.
This is an enjoyable rocker read and while it’s the first book in the Jacob’s Ladder series, it feels like there is a series that this must spin off of which features another band frequently mentioned in this story. I am going to hunt for it because I enjoyed the author’s writing style and her character development. She pulled a fast one on me with Gabe’s personality.
I went back to check my highlights on the things I found funny and it turns out I was so engaged in the book that I didn’t highlight anything. I do remember, though, the brownie baking scene – when he leans over to give her a kiss gave me tingles.
I recommend this book and will be reading the rest of the series as it comes out.
Stuck in the mud after an off-roading incident a Rockstar finds his muse in the feisty tow driver sent to rescue him. In New York Times, USA Today, and Amazon bestselling author Katie Ashley’s latest Jacob’s Ladder: Gabe she gives us a story that fans have been waiting patiently, or maybe not so patiently, for.
Gabe Renard is the lead songwriter for Jacob’s Ladder, but lately he has been in a rut. Unable to find the inspiration needed to pen the ballad the record company requests, he takes off in his Jeep to try to clear his mind. Instead of dislodging his writer’s block, the drive ends with him stuck and needing helping, which comes in the form of the spitfire Rae Hart and her tow truck. She not only pulls in from the muck but also inspires his creativity, while she shoots every one of his advances down.
Reagan “Rae” Hart has a special dislike for musicians. Her mother ran off with a traveling country singer and her ex-boyfriend was a rocker that left her pregnant and alone. As single mother that runs the family collision business, she doesn’t have time for any man, let alone the handsome Rockstar Gabe. She knows his type; she learned that lesson the hard way. Will Gabe be able to convince her to give them a shot?
Usually in a Rockstar romance, I am all over the male lead, as I love myself a musician. Especially drummers. While Gabe checked every one of my Rockstar fantasy boxes, it was Rae that I fell in love with. She has such strength in her. She is not only a working single mom, which has my respect without knowing anything else; her profession is in a male dominated field. She has trust issues, but let’s be real any woman that is dumped while pregnant will. Her life has given her every reason not to trust Gabe. He is a representation of the man that caused her to end up alone with a baby and it takes her some time to trust in him and believe the things he says are not just pretty words.
This was a fun read in one of my favorite romance genres. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves Rockstars and especially to fans of Katie’s Runaway Train series. FOUR stars!
He’s a rock star, with the world at his feet. She’s a single mother and business owner working to make ends meet. Gabe and Rae come from different worlds, but they have one thing in common. Responsibility. He has a band that counts on his talent with words to keep the fans happy and the money coming in. She has a family relying on her to keep the business in the red. Neither has the time for romance, but a chance meeting strikes a chord to the heart. I love a good fairy tale and Ms. Ashley delivered a bit of that with Gabe and Rae. She also went beyond the superficial by giving both characters a depth that is sometimes lacking in romance.
