Jackpot is book 5 in the Lucky Lady Casino short stories by Kathryn Shay and the final book in the series or is it???
Alyssa, the beautiful Jackpot Casino worker is just biding her time til she gets her nursing degree, her son goes off to college and she can leave her abusive husband.
Zach, a firefighter comes to the casino to help block the loss of his friend and fellow firefighter. He feels the pull with Alyssa but knows she is married so he keeps this feelings under wraps.
Can these two find their HEA through all the turmoil they both experienced and hit the Jackpot or will they just be friends??
So glad we got to catch up with the other couples too!!
This is the final book in a series of short stories and this time Ms. Shay tackles the subject of domestic abuse and also the guilt of a survivor in a tragic accident. Alyssa works at the casino, a hospital and goes to school to finish her nursing degree. Zack is a firefighter who comes into the casino and gets to know Alyssa, although they are just friends there is an attraction. When she is badly injured and leaves her abusive husband, Zack becomes more protective of her and shows her that she deserves to be loved and treated with respect, she also helps him through his past guilt of not being able to save a co-worker. At the end of the book we get a quick update on the other couples that have “hit the Jackpot” at the casino and see where they are in their relationships. A quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed. We first have met Alyssa , jackpot lady at the casino and going to nursing school in the previous book, All In. In this story we get more in depth with personal life of domestic abuse. Zach is a fireman who is dealing with the grief of the death a fellow fireman. They are two lonely souls who find comfort in each other as friends that develop into so much more.
Even though a short story you have very complex characters dealing with real problems that is well told. It was great to catch up with previous characters the other books. I really enjoyed this series, all can be read as stand alone books but I recommend that you read them all.
This is the first book I have read in the Lucky Lady Casino series. It was a quick read. No more than a couple of hours. Kathryn Shay managed to pack a lot of story into this short book.
Alyssa was an overworked wife, and mom biding her time in a troubled marriage. Zack was a single firefighter carrying some guilt about a previous fire. There was a definite attraction, but they were only friends. When circumstances occur that out both of their lives in danger, they start approaching life differently.
I liked that there was no cheating involved. The romance was sweet. There was enough information about couples from the previous books that made me want to read them, and there was an HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy.

This is the fifth book in Kathryn Shay’s “Lucky Lady Casino Short Stories.” These books are very fast reads; I was able to finish it in a couple of hours.
However, in spite of its length, this author manages to keep the action moving and the entertainment factor enthralling. The characters are also three dimensional and very thought-provoking.
At the end, we learn more about the life of the other four couples, and, the characters spotlighted in this book, find their happy ending.
This book seems to be the end of the Lady Casino Short Stories. However, at the end of this book, there is an excerpt from “the next book in the series.” This book is called The Big Gamble, and, based on the excerpt, appears to come from a longer, more suspenseful book. Thus, I think there is going to be another book taking place at The Lucky Lady Casino. However, at the moment, that is all I am sure of.
My suggestion: If you have not read these books yet, read them altogether. Then, stay tuned….
The Jackpot has a totally different vibe than the previous novellas in the Lucky Lady Jackpot Series. I was surprised to read about the interaction between Alyssa, an abused married woman and Zach, an emotionally scarred young man. The turmoil between a married woman and single guy was unexpected. The conclusion needs more transition because too many other characters are summarized in a finale. It takes the reader too much time to try to remember who they all because the span is five novellas.
In the fifth of the Lucky Lady Casino stories, Kathryn Shay gives us the story of Alyssa, the fragile and troubled Jackpot Lady we met in All In. Abused physically and emotionally by her husband, this story gives her a chance to escape and start over, and if Zach has any say in it, she’ll be starting over with him. The greatest strength for me in this story is the lack of simplicity that her escape includes – she has a son who doesn’t realize how his father has behaved, she has her professional reputation to maintain, and she has propriety to maintain in her relationship or otherwise with Zach while she is still legally married. At the end of the book, there are some very satisfying wraps of the couples met earlier in the series, and, if you’ve read those, I really recommend this book to get a view into their futures.
