Riverdale meets Love, Simon in this modern, fresh, YA debut about an unapologetically queer teen working to uncover a blackmailer threatening him back into the closet. Jack has a lot of sex–and he’s not ashamed of it. While he’s sometimes ostracized, and gossip constantly rages about his sex life, Jack always believes that “it could be worse.” But then, the worse unexpectedly strikes: When … the worse unexpectedly strikes: When Jack starts writing a teen sex advice column for an online site, he begins to receive creepy and threatening love letters that attempt to force Jack to curb his sexuality and personality. Now it’s up to Jack and his best friends to uncover the stalker–before their love becomes dangerous.
Ground-breaking and page-turning, Jack of Hearts (and other parts) celebrates the freedom to be oneself, especially in the face of adversity.

Jack of Hearts (and other parts) is the sex-ed class you didn’t get in high school — positive, frank and inclusive, but also hilarious, heartfelt, and impossibly fun. This book is like a hug that also slaps you on the ass (in the consensual flirtatious sexy way).
This book is very sexually explicit for a YA novel and I imagine it might have upset some parents because of that. But it is just so sweet and fun and the characters are so warm and fuzzy. The advice Jack gives in his column is so down-to-earth and practical for teens who are struggling with their sexuality, that it’s a big relief in its honesty. I appreciated it a lot.
Unapologetically honest, refreshingly bold, and gloriously celebratory, being proud of who you are never felt so good. I loved this book.

I loved this book! Based on everything I’d heard about it, I was expecting a frothy YA romcom with a little steam. But it was darker and more serious than anticipated. Right up my alley as a mystery & thriller fan! But there was plenty of humor and sweetness to balance it out. Our main character, Jack, is complicated and interesting, and the supporting cast is so much fun! The characters are arguably a bit mature for their age, but I think it makes them strong role models in different ways. And the NYC private school setting gives an air of credibility for their maturity level. All in all, I highly recommend!
Just a word of caution. This book contains a lot of frank discussion about sex. In my opinion, it’s much needed and appreciated. But only you know what’s best for you and/or your teen.
This is the sex-positive gay YA novel of your dreams, starring one of the most authentic and lovable YA characters ever. Warm, funny, and incredibly sexy, Jack of Hearts totally has my heart.
Told in a ferociously original voice, this subversive and defiantly queer ode to living your truth as an act of resistance arrives right on time.
Bold. Unfiltered. Supportive. Funny. Boundary-shattering. There aren’t enough words for how much I loved Jack of Hearts, but if I could sum it up in one, it would be: necessary. Put this book in the hands of every teen who needs the courage to find comfort in their skin and desires (or lack thereof).
Jack of Hearts (and other parts) by L.C. Rosen a five-star read that will tickle your pickle. This is my first read by this author and I am sure it won’t be my last, this was so much fun to read, I am buying a copy for every teenager, and young person I know as well as some old that could do with it. I’m older than the intended audience and I still loved it, it had an effect on me much like a book I received nearly 25 years ago as a teenager from my aunt, that book much like this had an effect on me that changed my outlook on life, they have such a powerful message interlaced within the pages. I know some will find this book too explicit and to some it may be, but that adds to the story, they all have a place and each character will bring you a different aspect most of all Jack will show you how its okay to be you, no matter the version of you that you present that day. This is easily the most powerful read of the year.
