She Tried To Kill Me…
She crept into my room with a syringe full of poison. Now she’s my prisoner. She refuses to tell me who sent her or why.But I’ll get every last secret out of her. Through pleasure or through punishment. I captured her and now she belongs to me… 1 in the Underworld series. It’s a stand-alone novel, full of intrigue, danger, and sexy bedroom scenes. Contains spanking, so if such material offends you, do not read.
The Lark Notes:
If you liked Callum and Aida in “Brutal Prince” then you will love Ivan and Sloane. She is a fierce lady assassin tasked with taking down a Bratva Boss Ivan. Their banter and heat level is off the charts. Ivan is my forever book boyfriend ♥ – Sophiemore
This book was WOW, and I ended up reading it in one sitting cause I couldn’t put it down! It had everything you would want in a Mafia romance story and then it added an insta-love type component which was definitely unexpected. This was my first book by Sophie Lark but I already have her other books added to my TBR list!
Sloane is a hit woman, with the nickname “Angel of Death”, that has never screwed up an assignment. She puts in all the works, gets clean kills and gets out with out ever being caught. When she returns home from her last mission she is immediately offered a new job, normally she wouldn’t accept a job that soon but the money makes it hard to turn down. Before she can second guess herself she has agreed to take out the leader of a Bratva family named Ivan and he will be her toughest job yet. When Ivan wakes up one night and finds an assailant in his room with a syringe full of poison he can’t believe someone breached his home, let alone a woman. He knows he should kill her but at the same time he can’t help but want to keep her to find out what she knows, even if it requires a little punishment. I can’t really say more from here cause you just need to read it!
Sloane is a total badass! She was taught all kinds of survival and tactical tips from her former CIA father that she has put into her role as a contract killer. She has managed to keep her identity hidden so no one knows if the angel of death is a male or female. I was impressed with all the work she put into her jobs and just being in her head was a trip at times. Ivan’s character was unexpected, I was expecting a cruel man that made his people fear him but he was all about the family and he was truly respected. I loved when when the book shifted to his P.O.V because it definitely let you see his side of the situation and really get a peak at how his brain worked. Their chemistry together was amazing and some of those scenes were panty melting hot.
I loved the plot, it felt fresh and new and it moved at a great place. This next part is huge for me, most authors don’t do this and I always felt like a piece of the story was missing, when something big happens to one character while in others perspective, Sophie circled back and showed everything that actually happened during the next chapter. I can tell that Sophie is going to become one of my go to authors going forward. I definitely recommend this book!

Hooked me from page one! Sloan and Ivan don’t start out at a good place, but the story evolves into a great plot with lots of action. I loved this story because she is a strong female lead. She is her own person and his character does not wish to make her meek or weak. I like that difference in this mafia book.
Love reading dark romances especially when it involves the mafia. Sloane is a contract killer and she meets Ivan when she is hired to kill him. Good read and romance.

I really liked the premise of this book. Ivan and Sloane make a good team, after Ivan gets over the fact that Sloane tried to kill him of course. The book definitely has the entertainment value and the plot points flow well. The character’s back stories are in place and thus their actions and reactions feel well motivated. Heat level is good, with less of a D/s relationship than in other similar genre books. There is some spanking though, but not gratuitous or to make the h submit.

This entire series is great. The books just keep getting better and better. Emerald is no different. This book quickly became my favorite in the series. I love that there is not only a love story, but a little danger too. The danger gives the story the perfect balance to not be just another love story. Honestly, at first I wasn’t sure there would be any love story. I can’t give details as I don’t want to ruin anything. I highly recommend this book though!

Another Good Read…
Emerald was the second book I’ve read from author Sophie Lark. And, just like the well-developed characters and story in Crimson, the first novel I read, Ms. Lark continues to show how talented she is as an artist able to craft a good tale with compelling characters and plot line. In Emerald, Ms. Lark presents the story of Sloane, a woman conditioned by her former CIA operative father from early childhood to protect and defend herself, withstand torture, maneuver daring escapes, control dangerous situations, and ultimately to perfect countless methods to kill an opponent. Her narrative is peppered with poignant glimpses of a childhood lived in isolation with no friends or family other than her father who increasingly exhibits profound breaks with reality in his quest to keep himself and his daughter safe from the enemies who constantly pursue them, even though that danger exists only in his increasing and continuous states of dementia and paranoia. Inevitably, Sloane transitions these skills into a career as a well-paid assassin for hire through an anonymous intermediary on the internet. She makes her way to St. Petersburg, Russia, where she establishes herself while she searches for her father. While in Russia, Sloane accepts an assignment to kill Ivan Petrov, a Bratva/Russian Mafia boss, for half a million dollars. Ivan lives in an enclosed compound, a centuries-old former monastery built as a fortress with thick impenetrable walls, state of the art security, armed guards, and ferocious Caucasian Ovcharkas guard dogs. The monastery contains locked windowless cells, catacombs, secret passages and tunnels as well as luxurious, and elegantly appointed bedrooms, library, sitting and war rooms. Sloane finds a way into Ivan’s bedroom while he is sound asleep and tries to inject him with a deadly homemade poison, but Ivan overpowers her, removes her mask and looks into the face of the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. I won’t spoil the interactions between the two, but as only Ms. Lark can do, they will satisfy your need to read about interplay that is always hot and steamy, intense, sweet, complicated, funny and heartfelt.

The plot of this book was original and highly entertaining. I loved every minute of it. Sloane’s job is what brings her into Ivan’s life, but her strength is what keeps her there. Sloane is Ivan’s match in every way. This book flows nicely and is well written. I love the two main characters, but there are some great characters on the periphery as well. I have red some of the previous books in this series and they are all great in there own right. All the books so far seem to be standalone as is this book, Emerald.
