Used to pretending he’s someone he’s not, twenty-one-year-old college student Micah has been hiding his true self. When a prank sends him into a bar on kink night, he finds something he never knew he needed: a world so strange, yet so alluring, where someone offers to take care of him… even though escaping all the pressure sounds too good to be true. But can he find something lasting with a Daddy … Daddy who likes to pamper him? Can he trust Carter to be his first in so many ways?
At forty, Carter is a widower. Though he’s past the stages of grief, he’s still completely lost without his late husband. There’s a hole in his life he doesn’t think he’ll ever fill. But Micah doesn’t only fit perfectly in Carter’s lap — he’s also curious about all things related to age play. Can he coax Micah out of his shell so he can become the femme, carefree, happy little he’s meant to be?

Words are not enough to describe how much I loved this story and these characters!! Just brilliant!
A Daddy and his Boy…
Both R. Phoenix and Chris McHart are new authors to me. This was the first book of theirs that I’ve had the opportunity to read or listen to, and I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. I think the authors came together to write a sweet novel to share with the world that depicts a loving relationship between two people in the lifestyle. Now, I’m not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to age-play. I will say that I have two friends that practice the lifestyle and I’ve asked tons of questions. Those questions in turn make me feel as if I have a fairly good picture of what this sort of relationship is supposed to look like.
The narration for this novel was fantastic. Kenneth Obi gives voice to an interesting story that draws the listener into this tale of age-play. It’s no secret that Ken is one of my favorite narrators in the m/m romance genre and that is because he does such a fantastic job. I haven’t come across a book yet I haven’t enjoyed that he’s narrated. He does a great job of bringing Micah and Carter to life in It’s Just Us.
This book started off in such a fun way! Poor Micah has stumbled into something he doesn’t understand when he walks into a bar full of littles, daddies, pups, and handlers. Carter sees him standing there totally bewildered and takes him underwing. I found it so sweet that Carter basically said, ‘hey…this might not be what you expected, but do you wanna try it out?’ Micah could have told him the wasn’t interested in whatever was going on in that bar, but he took a chance that changed his life! Also, I’d like to point out, it was adorable seeing Sean interact with Micah when he wants to color in Micah’s coloring book at the bar.
There was so much to Micah that made my heart hurt. I was sad that he felt the need to hide the feminine side of himself. Thankfully, Carter was a very understanding partner that picked up on what his boy really needed. Together they were able to explore things like girly clothing and diapers. They also had fun with makeup and nail polish. It was so stinkin’ sweet! I honestly loved their dynamics. What’s not to love when a Daddy says he and his boy can watch youtube videos to learn how to do makeup right?
I felt so bad for both Carter and Micah when his parents caught them in the middle of a really intimate moment. The hurtful way they behaved, the terrible things they said, it was just so heartbreaking! Carter had it pretty rough before that point because he lost his first partner Nick to cancer and then suffered from alcohol abuse. Then his parents show up and try to ruin this good relationship between him and Micah. The poor man needed some happiness in his life! Thankfully, Micah came to take care of Carter in his hour of need and they were able to work things out. They were both strong enough to overcome the sudden drama that threatened the foundation of the relationship they were starting.
Honestly, I loved this book. I thought it was sweet, emotional, heartwarming, and unique in the way that Micah was a feminine little. I’d definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in littles, daddies, and age-play. I’d also say that if you like novels by R. Phoenix, Chris McHart, or audiobooks by Kenneth Obi, you’ll more than likely enjoy this read!
I read this ebook on the day that it came out and absolutely loved it, so this was always going to be 5 stars for the story. Kenneth Obi’s narration is the perfect icing on a wonderful cake. Yes…I know I’m gushing…but it’s that good.
I certainly can’t tell which author wrote which parts as continuity is seamless. So is the way the narrator switches between the deeper voice of Carter to the boyish tones of Micah.
Carter is written as an extremely supportive Daddy to Micah as he embraces a new life as a “little”. As Micah grows in confidence, he becomes just as supportive and accepting of Carter (and his flaws). They become very much equals and this is brought out by both word and voice. I was sad when their story ended.
I stepped out of my comfort zone to try something different and new to me. I do read some kink and taboo but I guess you may say I read more vanilla kink.
Now you are going to laugh at me and feel free to do so. I saw age play and was like ‘oh yes! Age gap! Littles? Awe, sweet little people’ and I do like to see unique and different characters from the perfect. I could not have been more wrong. Color me Naïve!
Coloring and playing with toys didn’t push me out of my comfort zone. Heck, I do that. But then we get to sippy cups and binkies and on to the diapers… I still don’t know how I feel about that.
Now personal feelings aside I am going to do my job and review the story. It is a very well-written story with only a few well-developed interesting characters. There is that big age gap I love and I just adored Carter. (I am a sap for sad). The story is sweet and a slow build as Carter and Micah build their relationship, Micah comes to terms with himself and Carters moves past a hurt.
I listened to the narration by Kenneth Obi as I did some crafting and housework. I will admit I probably wouldn’t read this on my own but I loved having a skilled storyteller narrate for me.
So, if you already know age-play and littles are something you like or you are teetering on trying it but just don’t know…this is a good book to start with.
Both are new authors for me but I know I will be getting to know them better, really enjoyed reading this book. Carter and Micah’s story is a sweet tale about two people looking love, Carter having lost his first love and Micah never having been in love are perfect for one another, a sweet shy Little boy and his loving Daddy, a wonderful well written fast reading story from begining to end.
This sweet age play reminds me of the sweet romantic books I used to read before I found MM. It would make a great first age play read because it is so sweet and almost cuddly!
When Micah wanders into the wrong place at the wrong time, he encounters Carter and a whole new world that he never knew existed. When Carter encounters Micah, he finds the one thing that he’d been missing since the death of his husband. I’m going to be honest and admit that the ABDL aspect of this book didn’t appeal to me very much. Nothing wrong with it; it’s just not my thing. That being said, I did love the age gap, daddy and femme aspects of this book. Very much so! I got drawn into this story by Micah essentially. The way Carter helped him overcome some of his fears and blossom into such an amazing character. I fell in love with Micah right from the getgo. Carter was so loving, caring, and patient. Almost too patient at times, but not enough to bother me too much. I didn’t think the pacing of the story was bad at all. All in all, this was an amazing read and I loved it, and I do recommend giving it a try.
A wonderful story of love and growth in a new Age Play relationship! Love it!
It’s Just Us is an M/M Age Play Romance by R. Phoenix and Chris McHart. It tells the love story of a bullied young college student, Micah, and his protective daddy, Carter. These characters are fantastic and I enjoyed getting to know them. The story is well written, emotional, sexy, sweet and I can not recommend it more.
Carter and Micah are exactly what each other need. Carter is a Daddy Dom who needs a boy and Micah needs Daddy to love and support him. When a prank goes wrong, Micah finds himself in an awkward situation and Micah comes to his rescue. I loved the interaction between Carter and Micah and their sex scenes were hot.
Overall Rating: 2.75 Stars. It’s a cute story but the writing was a little awkward at points. This was a sweet, cute story that was fun to read.
What a great storyline. It drags you in from the beginning and just keeps you going with it. Micah is shy, a little insecure and just not certain of who he truly is, and how to be comfortable in his skin. Carter is confident and caring and just so knowledgeable. He’s also stronger than he realizes. Loved it
