Laird Angus McTaggart and Lady Francesca Aldiss started their life together with a fierce passion. But over time, Lady Aldiss can no longer tolerate the lifestyle of the Highlands and longs for her days in society living in London. Alas, their mother will not budge, and she has already found a bride for her oldest, Coll. Ever the peacemaker in the family, Naill goes with Coll to meet his betrothed, Amelia-Rose Baxter. But Amelia-Rose is nothing that Coll wants in a bride, and everything Naill desires. When she meets Naill MacTaggert, she is pulled towards his honesty and charm…as well as his exceptional good looks. But what really calls to her heart is that he seems to care for her and all the quirks that London’s society shuns.
Naill and Ameila-Rose find themselves caught up in quite a tangle, and they both must decide if what they are feeling for each other is worth fighting for or if they will do their families bidding and forever wonder what could have been…
Suzanne Enoch’s It’s Getting Scot in Here is a fun fast paced romance that I enjoyed and would recommend to lovers of this genre. I did have a wee bit of a problem with the mother abandoning her children at such a young age, but I imagine that for the times, it was quite common, and this story does resolve some of the conflict and give us a happily ever after. I’m kinda rooting for Jane, Amelia-Rose’s cousin, to be paired with one of the other brothers in the next installment of the Wild Wicked Highlanders series.

This was my first Suzanne Enoch book, and I must say it was a fun read. I have a bit of a problem reading the dialect from the Highlanders, it slows my reading down a bit, but it is a fun part of the story. This has such a well thought out plot and such interesting characters! What a great romance we have here.
Love this book, love the series.
How fun! I loved meeting the MacTaggert brothers. The first book is for Niall, the youngest of the 3, and what a charmer! Amelia-Rose, aka Amy, was very sweet and I cheered for her throughout.
The basic premise is that the mother (who I can’t help but dislike, sorry) left her sons in the highlands to raise her daughter in London. The boys don’t know her, but you learn that they were pretty brokenhearted over her abandonment. (As a mom, I don’t care about her reasoning.) It’s not until the boys are grown that they discover their mother and father had an agreement – the sons must marry English brides or the mother will no longer fund their ancestral estate.
They’re resentful (makes sense to me) and determined to find brides and then abandon them so they can get back home.
Romantic shenanigans ensue – and the brothers really are great!
I’ve already started the second book for Aden, the middle brother, and I’m loving it. He won me over right off by saving a mongrel dog. Happy reading!
I love me some good regency and highlander romances! I love the time period. Fascinated by it, really. If I could be born in any era, it would be the regency era and live in either Highland Ireland or Regency England during that period. I mean seriously. The men of that time are to literally die for. I love their descriptions, I love their accents coming off the pages of the books, I’m just simply a regency lover. No doubt about it.
Sitting down to read Enoch’s first book in her Wild Wicked Highlanders series was an absolute joy. Enoch created a wonderful plot line and filled it with beautifully chiseled characters. She has a master talent for making them come to life, that’s for sure! Whewee! Those darling Scottish men…..yes please!
Niall and Amelia-Rose are wonderful characters. I loved seeing them together. Their friendship blossomed, and their love was just right. I loved seeing it develop and felt every spark of passion between them as if I was in Amelia-Rose’s shoes and Niall was my guy. Loved that feeling!
Enoch has definitely hit a home run with this 4 star book, in my opinion. It’s got the perfect blend of sass, romance, captivating characters and room for so much more with the next books in the series. These Scotsmen and their ladies have definitely stolen my heart for the long haul and I can’t wait for the next one.

I was delighted when I won this book at a Goodreads contest. I’ve been wanting to dive into Enoch’s Scottish books so bad. This story did not disappoint. It was creative and entertaining with all the family dynamics and the Scot brothers being “fish out of water” in London Society. She crafted an engaging story although when she gets to Coll’s story she’s got a lot of redeeming to do cause I grew to really detest him. By the end of the tale I believe Francesca, the brother’s Mother, stole my heart with her cleaver manipulations of society. I do believe Amelia-Rose’s mother, Victoria gets what’s coming to her. I really grew to hate her desperation to gain status within London society by using her daughter to marry a title.
Niall MacTaggert is the youngest of 3 Scottish brothers grown and raised in the Scottish Highlands by their Laird father Angus MacTaggert and the English heiress Francesca. His clan is poverty stricken and he must marry for funds. He took his well bred English bride to the wilds of Scotland and bred 3 strong sons, Coll, Aden & Niall, and one daughter, Eloise. When Eloise turned 13 Lady Francesca had had enough of Scot life, packed up and returned to London without her sons, though lord knows she tried. Thankfully she had a shrewd marriage contract that left her control of the purse strings! In her agreement the boys had to take English wives before the daughter married or the clan lost her money. Oh and she got to pick one of the brides. Now 20 years later it’s time and Coll draws the short straw to marry the lady of Francesca’s choosing. Coll holds the title as eldest, Viscount Glendarril and is contracted to marry Lady Amelia-Rose. She daughter of the ever scheming and title seeking Victoria and Charles Baxter, rich merchants on the fringes of London Society. Once the “boys” get to London, Coll revolts and does a disappearing act so Niall steps in as the “diplomat” of the group. He stands in for Coll pretending the suit is Coll when in actuality he finds Amelia delightful. They fall in love and the solutions to the conundrum are within the well crafted pages of the story. ~ A copy was provided to me for an honest and voluntary review by Goodreads.
When I first saw the title of It’s Getting Scot in Here, I immediately thought of the Nelly song. Every time I saw the title, it made me smile.
Now, that I have expressed my love for the title, let’s get onto the review.
I thought that Niall and Amelia-Rose’s love story was perfect. Their romance was bumpy with obstacles thrown at them from all directions. That made me love it more!! I like perfect, fairy tale romances. But I also like romances that show that love is hard and not perfect. And in this case, it wasn’t.
It’s Getting Scot in Here is set in one of my favorite eras, the Regency era. The author did a fantastic job of describing what Regency-era London looked like. She also did a fantastic job of showing the tensions between the Scottish and the English. Niall, Aden, and Coll’s distaste at everything English were palpable. Amelia-Rose’s parents were the same way against the Scottish. I loved reading a romance that was able to keep to the era.
I liked Amelia-Rose. She was outspoken and not afraid to let people have it. Her actions at the ball showed that. I did feel bad for her. Her mother was status hungry. Amelia-Rose received 4 marriage proposals turned down because the men weren’t titled. I will admit, Amelia-Rose did come off as a snob at the beginning of the book. But considered how she was raised and what was expected from her, I didn’t expect anything less. So, it was interesting when she started to fall in love with Niall.
I understood why Niall was so angry at the beginning of the book. His mother, who left when he was 7, dropped a bomb on him and his brothers. In order for them to keep their lands, they need to marry English women. One had to marry a woman that she chooses. The other two can marry whoever they want but it has to be English. So yeah, I would be mad too. Then, Coll goes on a bender. Which left Niall to pick up his slack. Again, I would be mad too. But, as the book went on, and as Niall started to fall in love with Amelia-Rose, his anger subsided.
The sex scenes in the book were alright. If I had a complaint about anything, I felt that the sex scenes were understated.
The end of the book was a wild ride. So much was going on that I almost couldn’t keep it straight. I loved what Lady Aldriss did. I laughed out loud at that. I also liked how Amelia-Rose’s father finally stood up to her mother. I slow clapped at that. The author did a great job of wrapping up all the plotlines about Niall and Amelia-Rose. She did leave enough open for the other brothers to usher in the 2nd book.
I loved this book! The MacTaggerts are a wild bunch let loose in London against their will with a sister they never got to watch grow up and a mother who abandoned them, at least in their opinion she abandoned them. It is deemed that Coll will marry the woman of their mother’s choosing and Aden and Niall can find wives on their own, as long as the are British. Only Coll, who is so angry with his mother for forcing this issue, isn’t going to fall in line and takes his anger out on the easiest target the young lady his mother picked for him, Amelia-Rose Baxter. Amelia-Rose isn’t as sweet, weak-willed, and clingy as Coll anticipated and she promptly snaps back. Niall falls head over heels for Amelia using his brother’s contempt to his advantage and spends as much time with Amelia-Rose as possible and it isn’t long before Amelia-Rose falls for Niall in return. With Niall she can be herself a smart headstrong woman who is only trying to please her parents. But Amelia-Rose and Niall have a hard road ahead of them since her mother is dead set on her marrying a man who can give her a title.
Overall, this book was such a fun read. Niall is romantic and sincere and willing to beat up his brother in defence of the woman he loves when he’s usually the one breaking up fights and solving arguments. Amelia-Rose (Amy) I loved; she tries so hard to be the dutiful daughter and the pressure of marrying but sometimes she just can’t curb her wit and scathing remarks for idiots. I love the MacTaggert family. Coll as surly as he is redeems himself, Aden we didn’t really get to know that well which makes me think maybe his book is next. Francesca, their mother, is a powerhouse she manipulated the brothers into this situation but her heart was in the right place. The baby sister, Eloise, she’s adorable she’s like one of those people who is always so cheery and you may want to hate them for it but you can’t help but like them.
Epic Regency/Highlander romance!
It’s 1816, and the three MacTaggert brothers discover their mother’s ultimatum that requires them to travel to London. She’s a true English lady, and her sons are, to her great dismay, far too much like their wild Highland father.
Francesca is a delightful matriarch, formidable but with a huge (but well-hidden) heart of gold. Niall, her youngest son, is determined to follow through on what his heart promises to Amelia-Rose, regardless of who may be disappointed along the way. Amelia-Rose is just feisty and sassy enough to know what she wants, even when she doesn’t quite know how to make it happen. This book is filled with delightful characters; all of them fairly leap off the page and into your heart.
There’s so much heart and humor throughout the book, not in-your-face comedy but the understated, wry observations about society and finding one’s place in – or out – of it. The storyline is gripping, captivating from start to finish, and the HEA is melty-sweet and oh-so-satisfying. The writing is on-point, superbly paced, with a flow that just draws the reader in and makes for a non-stop read. It’s everything a romance should be, and one of the best I’ve ever read that seamlessly combines the Scottish Highlanders with the English aristocracy. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
4 Stars!! I love a good Historical Scottish Romance! This was a great read! I love the main characters, Niall & Lady Amelia-Rose! They were perfect together. I felt bad for Amelia-Rose & the way her parents & the oldest MacTaggert brother, Coll, treated her! I thought it was funny how she said what she was thinking even if she got in trouble! The MacTaggert brothers and how they argued, fought or just talked to each other were funny & I loved their ‘friend’ Rory too!! The only thing I didn’t like was how their mother just left Scotland, and them, with the baby sister when they were just kids. How could a mother leave, never visit or write to her sons?! That was the only part I found hard to believe & I wish it was different. Other than that, it was a great read & I highly recommend it!

It’s Getting Scot in Here is everything I hope for when I read a historical romance. A healthy dose of family drama, scheming, a sassy heroine, and a swoon worthy hero.
Amelia-Rose is a bit of a square peg her parents try jamming into a round hole. She’s bright. She is quick with as snappy comeback. God forbid she’s opinionated and enjoys reading. After living her life constantly being hushed and told to be “proper”, she meets the brother of the seemingly boorish Highlander her parents have engaged her to. Those two have zero chemistry and after a handful of moments are enemies. Then, enter Niall. Oh sweet, sweet Niall. Finally, her heart is telling her this is a man that will appreciate her true self. The down side, her shrew of a mother has other plans…
I loved how the story unfolds with the lead characters developing a friendship. The banter between these covers an underlying simmering tension they don’t immediately acknowledge. Toss in laugh out loud sibling antics and a family reunited and this a book I am in love with.
I have long been a fan of Suzanne Enoch’s writing. As this is the first in the series, I imagine it will only get better from here. I am so excited for the coming books highlighting Niall’s brothers Happily Ever After moments sprinkled with Scottish brogue.
” It was like I was reading a story in a book, and I didnae like where the plot was headed, but I couldnae stop it. It had already been written, ye ken. I was too late.”
Niall MacTaggert is the gentlest of three sons or would he be the least barbarian of them? That’s what we’ll find out in It’s Getting hot … ops … Scot in Here. After learning that their mother had already chosen a young woman for his elder brother, he was willing to accompany his brother to the lady’s court, but what they did not expect was that the betrothed would be so intelligent and determined.
Amelia- Rose is a girl with no control of her opinions, always expressing her unconventional thoughts ends up pushing her suitors away, one by one, to the despair of her mother who longs to marry her daughter with a man with a title to be a part of London high society. Amelia, in spite of everything, tries in every way to obey her parents and her orders because she wants to have her own home to take care of, go to the places she wants and have a family to take care of.
When she meets Francesca’s eldest son and her suitor, she simply can not control herself and always throws an answer to the rough and prejudiced man, which leaves her with a problem in her hands since he doesn’t care for her and her wishes. But Niall likes her so much and her thoughts and attitudes, and courts her in order to help his brother but ends up falling in love with a girl forbidden to him, since her mother only agrees to marry her with a nobleman and he is only the youngest son of a nobleman.
He risks every moment to be able to stay close to Amelia in ardent and exciting encounters with stolen kisses, passionate hugs and interesting bargains.
I greatly adored the way Suzanne Enoch conducted their relationship, leading Niall to fight with all his strength to win the confused sweet Amelia for himself. He does everything to prove to his brothers that the girl is worth every probation, every risk and that he truly loves her regardless of the agreement with his mother.
Narrated in third person, the book begins with a prologue featuring how Niall’s parents meet and the reason for the agreement that forces the brothers to marry. I am anxious about the next books and hoping that in the last one will have an epilogue with the whole family together.
I enjoyed every last bit of it. Amelia-Rose was so much more than she appeared. Yes, she wanted to please her parents but also despaired of ever doing that. Why? Because the real person that she was had to always be stuffed down in order to be the prim miss that her mother (mainly) demanded. Her mother was a overbearing, social climbing shrew. Speaking of mothers, the MacTaggert’s mother really stirred up a kettle of resentments and trouble as SHE tries to control her sons. She wants to insert herself back into their lives and does it in the worst possible ways. But it’s the only way to get them over a barrel and FORCE them to come to England. Threaten their beloved Scottish family home by cutting off the finances needed to keep it up and running. Not a good start but she does has that power.
Charming Niall was just that..charming when he wanted to be. He was also not only the youngest son but the peacekeeper of the group of sons. No, he wasn’t a wimp by any means, he knew how to fight and often did.
I really enjoyed the often spunky conversations between Niall and Amelia-Rose. With him she definitely let much of who she was shine through. And a lot of it was funny too!
This is a story that I am going to keep and re-read at another time because I did enjoy it so much. Half of the fun was watching some of the creative and funny ways that the brothers tried to thwart their mother.
Now, I also want to read the remaining single brothers, Aden and Coll’s stories. I think Coll’s story is going to be especially explosive. Why? Because he has one gigantic angry chip on his shoulder.
I just remembered their sister, Eloise. Is her engagement as happy as it seems or is there more to that particular story?
“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
I loved this book! It’s a witty delight that is sure to appeal to fans of Julia Quinn and Eloisa James. Both of the main characters are incredibly well-developed and likeable, as are the secondary characters, particularly Niall’s brothers, who will presumably be featured in future books.
I look forward to the next book in the series.

What happens when you combine three brothers raised in Scotland and are true highlanders and they are forced into English society? Well it makes for a delightful story that will have to smiling but also wanting to pummel a couple of people!
Raised by their father after their English mother left them over seventeen years ago to return to London, three brothers are forced to travel to see her. You see their father was dependent upon her funds and so he had signed an agreement that all three were to marry English ladies! Ha! That really did not go over well and the mother had no contact with them in all those years. Yep, I really did not like her! She had also taken their sister to live with her. This sets up the series with the oldest brother Coll expected to marry Amelia-Rose, who his mother had chosen for him! But he was having none of it and acted a complete beast to her so his younger brother Niall, the arbiter of the family, stepped in to try to redeem Coll and smooth things over.
But then the adventure begins as the two spend time together they start to have feelings for one another. Of course that sets in motion a humorous and really romantic story at times!
Loved these characters and seeing how they developed and interacted with each other really got to my heart.
I cannot wait to read the rest of this series and see how the rest of the brothers and the sister find their happy ever after! Do not miss this entertaining journey to find love at any cost!
This was such a warm, affectionate, charming, as well as witty, entertaining, and an absolute gem to read. Suzanne Enoch swept me away. This story was captivating from beginning to end. Ms. Enoch writes with a warmth so palpable that her characters sneak their way into your heart and stay for a long time. “It’s Getting Scot In Here” absolutely charmed me.
Nail and Amelia Rose are perfection together. I couldn’t stop smiling as I read their story. Full of witty, funny dialogue, and laugh out loud moments. But what makes a romance story great for me, is that I could feel them fall for each other, feel their protectiveness for one another and even more so, feel the anticipation, the want, the desire that they feel for one another, as well as the strength of their love. Bravo!! What a gem! Bring on the rest of this series. Highly Recommended!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
It’s Getting Scot in Here by Suzanne Enoch is the First book in the Wild Wicked Highlanders Series. This is the story of Niall MacTaggert and Amelia Rose Baxter.
Amelia’s mother is dead set on her marrying into a Titled husband, so Amelia has tried to please her mother by acting the young brainless easy going miss that she isn’t. Coll, Aden, and Niall are the Mactaggert brother who learn that to keep what they have and to continue to support their clan they must meet with their mother who left with their sister after she was born, and marry who she picks before their sister is married. This was a bargain that was struck between their mother Francesca and their father Angus since Francesca’s father left her in charge of the money she brought to the marriage. Now the time is up, Coll, Viscount Glendarril, Aden, and Niall have to go to London to meet their bride in addition to seeing their mother they haven’t seen in years. Coll is the Titled Lord that has been set to marry Amelia Rose but he doesn’t want to marry and goes forward to try turn her away from him. Amelia is taken with Niall but he is the youngest son and one her mother wouldn’t allow her to marry. Niall tries to calm the feathers that Coll has ruffed with Amelia Rose finds that he really likes her and would want her for his own…but can either of them walk away from their mother’s dealing?
Niall MacTaggert is the youngest of the three wild and rowdy MacTaggert brothers. He and his brothers must comply with their estranged mother’s demands in order to save their ancestral home. Niall willingly acts as his brother’s stand-in when Coll refuses to court the bride chosen for him. He never expects to take a liking to the beautiful and outspoken woman. When their marriage agreement is absolved, Niall decides to pursue Amelia-Rose in earnest. Can Niall convince Amelia-Rose to marry him?
Amelia-Rose Baxter is a socialite entering her second season. She intends on wedding the titled Highlander her parents have chosen for her. However, her betrothed is not what Amelia-Rose expects nor wants. When Viscount Glendarril stomps out on her, his younger brother saves Amelia-Rose from public scrutiny. Niall’s charming disposition tempts her to break away from the ton’s conventional expectations. Will Amelia-Rose defy her parents to marry Niall? Or will they stand in their way?
Niall is such a charming rascal. He is known as the family and clan’s peacekeeper; the one people seek whenever they need a problem or dispute resolved. Niall and his brothers’ hijinks in London made me laugh continuously throughout the book. I adore his dedication to family, especially to his brothers and younger sister. Niall takes such lengths to help and protect the people he cares about, no matter the repercussions to himself. But what I love the most about Niall is the way he encourages Amelia-Rose to stay true to herself. He finds her outspokenness attractive.
Amelia-Rose steadily grew on me, especially after her meeting with the charismatic Niall MacTaggert. I sympathize with her for dealing with her parents’ egoistic singlemindedness. She tries vainly to conform to what they and society views a debutant ought to be. What I love the most is how Niall’s influence helps Amelia-Rose re-evaluate what is important in life. Everything she believed to be important proves to be superficial. Amelia-Rose decides to be herself and fight for what she wants for once.
IT’S GETTING SCOT IN HERE is book one in Suzanne Enoch’s brand new historical romance series, WILD WICKED HIGHLANDERS. I absolutely adore the book’s title. It is so unique and different from the usual titles in the genre. I hope the trend continues with future stories in this series. I also like how the author asked her fans for help in naming the MacTaggerts’ horses, and the name I suggested got chosen.
IT’S GETTING SCOT IN HERE is an entertaining tale of two people overcoming incredible odds to be together. It has been some time since I had such fun reading a story. I cannot wait for the next MacTaggert’s hijinks in London.

Love this series and the characters. I’ve read them out of order and each story stands alone beautifully.
I can always count on Suzanne Enoch to write a fabulous book!
