Whoever said life begins at forty must have been heavily medicated, drunk, or delusional.  Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good.  But as they say, all good things come to an end. I’d honestly love to know who ‘they’ are and rip them a new … new one. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed and breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job-deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there. I think they need my help, but since I don’t speak dead, we’re having a few issues.  To add to the heap of trouble, there’s a new dangerously smokin’ hot lawyer at the firm who won’t stop giving me the eye. My BFF is thrilled with her new frozen face, thanks to her plastic surgeon, her alimony check, and the miracle of Botox. And then there’s the little conundrum that I’m becoming way too attached to my ghostly squatters? Like Cher, I’d like to turn back time. Now. No can do.   Whatever. I have wine, good friends, and an industrial sized box of superglue. What could possibly go wrong? Everything, apparently. All in all, it’s shaping up to be a wonderful midlife crisis?

3.75 stars— IT’S A WONDERFUL MIDLIFE CRISIS is the first instalment in Robyn Peterman’s contemporary, adult GOOD TO THE LAST DEATH paranormal, women’s fiction story line focusing on forty year old, paralegal Daisy.
Told from first person perspective (Daisy) IT’S A WONDERFUL MIDLIFE CRISES follows paralegal Daisy as she traverses the world of the recently departed. Daisy is a widow whose fortieth birthday brought with it the ability for our heroine to see the dead. One year earlier Daisy’s husband died in a motor vehicle accident, and in the ensuing year Daisy struggled to move on with her life. The appearance of numerous animated but ghostly cadavers finds our heroine at a crossroads in both her personal and professional life when she discovers that she is not the only one in her circle with the ability to work with the dead. A bitchy boss who has taken a dislike to our heroine is in opposition to the presence of a sexy new lawyer who is determined to make Daisy his own, a determination that threatens the people she loves. With the help of her aging grandmother, Daisy learns she is a ‘death counselor’, and her friends and co-workers are the Grim Reaper, Angel of Mercy and the Arbitrator between heaven and h*ll, a group of people who are at odds with one another, both in and out of the business of death. Daisy quickly discovers the reason for the growing number of decaying ghosts in her house, and the realization that there are much stronger and nastier forces waiting to take her down.
IT’S A WONDERFUL MIDLIFE CRISIS is a fun story with a sassy and snarky heroine who believes she is alone as she counsels the dead but realization comes quickly that Daisy is but a one of many in the world between life and death. With her tight-knit group of friends, co-workers and a new love interest, Daisy sets out to right a wrong, and must acknowledge her own past, and forgive the man she once loved. IT’S A WONDERFUL MIDLIFE CRISIS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
I will add that I felt somewhat disconnected reading the story. There is limited back story and little to no information regarding the heroine’s new abilities as someone who is able to see and talk to ghosts-it’s as though the reader is thrown into the middle of the book without explanation-even her grandmother’s comments about their ability is blunt and lacks any detail.
I really enjoyed this book. Quirky, characters and plot, in a setting of normal, sort of. I love paranormal and action adventure. This fills the bill and then some.
5 out 5 stars
Well the last year of Daisy’s life has been nothing but pain and loss. Thirty nine was not a good year for her . He husband died and now she is picking up the pieces . On her fortieth birthday she starts to see dead people in her farm house . Thinking she is going crazy . Her best friend have a party for her and then her life really begins when she finds out she is special and has a special plan for her . She is now going to be busy and putting together body of some of those ghosts hanging around .
Omg these ladies are so hilariously well written . I loved each and every one of them . Daisy has been through so much and now is picking up pieces . She is one feisty lady and trust me you will laugh and cry with her through out this book. Her friends a quite a group of women. Missy and Heather are a hoot and ladies there is more to Heather then we realize . Jennifer is well she is addicted to Botox and with that her whole face isn’t moving . June and Missy are just great girls to hang out with. Then my all time favourite characters Donna the destroyer and Karen the two rescue dogs that come into Daisy’s life . One can see ghosts and the other well the other is loved and crazy .
OMG it is finally time for some authors to write about people over the age of 40 and all that goes along with it . This story had all the feels, I laughed and i cried and boy did i cry in some areas .The author has taken turning 40 and twisting it around to a fun time with your best friends, wind and the occasional ghost or two , There are twists at the end of this book that will have you on the edge of your seat going what the heck just happened and why did she do that . The book is fun filled and you will not be able to put it down as you . You will laugh and cry and oh cheer for all the ladies in this book . So if you want a fun filled read check it out . You won’t be disappointed Oh and yes there is a hot grim reaper named Gideon . Tell me what you think
I love Robyn Peterman and she didn’t disappoint with this new book! It’s funny, and unique with very likable characters!
I didn’t see it coming! As this is a new to me author I had no expectations and I was blown away! Hilarious, insane and amazing! I laughed until cried, then cried until laughed again. Daisie, oh Daisie! Snarky but funny, resourceful with superglue and such an amazing craziness but at the same time there’s so much seriousness, grief, wonderful friendship and yes, hot as hell grim reaper – no human has rights to look too good as Gideon looks.
I absolutely loved this book and despite to cliffhanger it’s soo good I can’t wait for the next one!
A beautiful, funny and heartbreaking story
Wow! I cried so many times I don’t know what to do with myself. This was a beautiful, funny and wonderfully written story. It had it all. A strong woman trying to move on from the death of her husband, suddenly being followed by ghosts ,making the most of it with humor! A gorgeous man that definitely wants her. A grandmother with all the answers and friends that make it all worth while. Her job may be the definition of insanity, but she does as she does everything else, as herself. And that makes her entirely unique. I loved every minute of it and I am so excited for the next one! This was definitely a five star read and I am so glad I met a new to me author!
Hot Damn! Robyn Peterman, where have you been my entire adult reading life?!
How quickly can you fall in love with an author? For me it was the 1st page! I had never read anything by her before, but loved the blurb & heard great things about book & her other’s. I was so NOT disappointed! I loved it from page one! I know there are authors, books that give you all the feels, I have said that myself about a book or two… but with It’s A Wonderful Midlife Crisis, it couldn’t be more accurate! I loved the characters, the story, the mishaps, the friendships, the pets! I can honestly NOT say enough good things about this book, or this new genre: PWF Paranormal Women’s Fiction, finally giving us heroines who are 40+, don’t get me wrong, I love my 20yr old baby faced naive heroine, as much as the next gal… but give me a woman who knows the trials & tribulations of middle age, of what we deal with, what we have to overcome… + have me cracking up, & I am SOLD! Robyn Peterman you have gained a new fan! If you have not read this author… you are missing out! If you have not read this book… what are you waiting for?!
The first couple of pages threw me because the story dove right into something that you had to follow for a few pages to figure out. Once I got past that, I enjoyed the story. Daisy, the main characters was well-written and likable and the story was unusual and engaging. My main issue, and why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, was the big cliff hanger at the end. It wasn’t just a tease going into the next book. I know this is a series and I like the story so well that I’ll look for the next book, but I wish it hadn’t been quite so abrupt at the end.
This series is a hoot!
I’m all kinds of feelings was going on with this book. I was laughing as soon as it started. There are some emotional stuff Daisy has to go threw in this book. Being over 40 and trying to start over. She has to find happiness somewhere. Everything she has ever known is turned upside down. Will she find happiness? Will she have a job? Will she have friends? All questions I asked myself as a got toward the end. You’re not going to know what hit you when you read this book.
It’s a Wonderful Midlife Crisis was AMAZING!!! I loved it and cannot wait for the next one. The first half of Chapter 15 had me in fits of laughter.
Spoiler alert – it does end with quite the cliffhanger.
IT’S A WONDERFUL MIDLIFE CRISIS is Book 1 in the “Good To The Last Death” series. A new genre has been emerging called “Paranormal Women’s Fiction” and 13 authors have gotten together to introduce readers to the genre (at least that is what I think is happening).
This is the first book I’ve read by Robyn Peterman and I am a fan. Written with humor and emotion, this clean story focuses on a group of amazing friends, a couple of dogs, and a game show grandma.
I read this story in one sitting. It flowed from beginning until the cliff hanger (OMG, a cliffhanger). I am anxiously awaiting the rest of the story.
I absolutely recommend this story.
It’s rare for me to cry & laugh hard while reading the same book. This book was a rollercoaster that I did not want to end. Daisy just turned 40, she’s a widow missing her late husband & you really feel her pain. She’s trying to move on & ends up growing & turning into a stronger, tougher version of herself. I really liked her strength, compassion & her sense of humor. She has some great awkward moments that are hilarious. She has laugh out loud fun w/ her friends, gram, pets, “squatters”, & a guy she has the hots for. She’s coming into her own & learning how to embrace the paranormal world that has uprooted her life & possibly sanity. I cannot wait for the next book in May! Robyn Peterman
Loved this book. It’s quirky and with a very different premise. So refreshing and I’m looking forward to the others in the series – I’ve even pre-ordered them both. Can’t wait.
Robyn Peterman’s novel was unexpected. I was suggested this book by my normal author of choice and I was pleasantly surprised. The story started slow and was about to give up until the action began. This is an amazing journey of Daisy and her three friends, her dogs, her squatters and an incredible handsome Grim Reaper. I have busted out laughing and have also teared up at times. This is a good read and I cannot wait for the next installment to see what happens next.
Forty and widowed was turning out much different than Daisy thought it would.
She thought her life would just go along with no problems, working as a Paralegal with a group of women she really liked. Instead she seems to be losing her mind a bit, ghosts are all around her, trying to communicate with her.
Living in an old farmhouse with a couple dogs, lots of spirits and a large supply of superglue. The ghosts keep losing body parts so the superglue comes in handy.
Turns out seeing the ghosts and communicating with them becomes her life, helping them move on or trying to at least. Turns out ghost whispering kind of runs in her family.
With the help of her best friends just maybe she can make it through the days a bit less stressed out.
Of course this book does end on a cliffhanger so I am trying not so patiently to wait for the next book.
This book will have you in stitches one moment then make you sniffle the next.
Such a wonderful series, gotta love tough older women!
Robyn Peterman It’s A Wonderful Midlife Crisis: A Paranormal Women’s Fiction Novel: Good To The Last Death Book One is a Paranormal Women’s Fiction that is perfectly divine, original and quirky. I laughed so hard that I literally cried as I took the journey with Daisy who has a new job and has absolutely no idea how she got so lucky and just as much no idea what to do except for needing a constant box of superglue. Learning that she has inherited the position and all it entails comes as something as a shock but one she is bound and determined to make her own. I loved it. Robyn has a way with words that just pop off the page and right into the imagination to bring it to life. She and the other group of authors that have banded together to bring brilliance of women over 40 a new lease on life. Hail the Fab 13, I have never read anything like it and I can’t wait for the next installments from them.
What an amazing storyline!!! This book took me on emotional roller coaster it made me laugh uncontrollably, it made me cry and it made me smile! I couldn’t put it down. There are parts that are so relatable in Daisy it make you stop and wonder. Who would think a book about a death counselor, the Grim Reaper, the Angel of Mercy and an Arbitrator to Heaven and Hell could’ve be so enthralling! I can’t wait to see where these amazing characters go next.

It’s A Wonderful Midlife Crisis: Good To The Last Death Book #1
Daisy is just turning 40, she’s now a Widow, hates her boss & about a month ago decomposing ghosts started living with her, so she’s pretty confident she’s losing her mind too. Finding & being able to superglue a detached hand back onto one of the ghosts made them both happy though so she’s going with the flow of her crazy, what else can a grown up do?
A new Lawyer, Gideon, starts at the firm where she’s a paralegal. He’s so hot he makes her stupid, so she’s determined to avoid him as she keeps embarrassing herself!! Her besties are all amazing women. Supportive, comforting, inappropriate when needed, have lots wine & they all have each other’s backs! Her Grandmother is in home now but she’s still feisty, has 3 beau’s (bleach for her ears needed after hearing that nugget of information) & she’s obsessed with her tv game shows. She’s starting to find herself & her happiness again after losing Steve! Then things start to get really weird, well weirder ….
I truly enjoyed these characters, their world & getting to learn about Daisy’s new ‘job’!! Some of the ghosts stories were sweet others plain heart breaking and horrifying but the way she treated them all – it was so special! I loved her new outlook & backbone along with her rapid fall into the arms & heart of her new man! The ending was gut wrenching, stupid in her inability to trust & now about to embark into God knows what! I can’t wait for book #2, I’m rooting for all the good things to happen but I admit I’m fearful! I just hope the Grim Reaper is forgiving!!
