“A landmark in American literature” (Chicago Sun-Times)—Stephen King’s #1 national bestseller about seven adults who return to their hometown to confront a nightmare they had first stumbled on as teenagers…an evil without a name: It. Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when …
They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made twenty-eight years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers.
Readers of Stephen King know that Derry, Maine, is a place with a deep, dark hold on the author. It reappears in many of his books, including Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis, and 11/22/63. But it all starts with It.
“Stephen King’s most mature work” (St. Petersburg Times), “It will overwhelm you… to be read in a well-lit room only” (Los Angeles Times).

It was one of the books that made me fall in love with Stephen King’s writing. He makes even the most unrealistic situation seem incredibly real and frightening. In this book a group of misfits (termed the Loser’s Club) join up to fight an unknown entity that is making hundreds of Derry, Maine residents disappear. The culprit is an ancient manifestation of EVIL. It’s a really good book!
Love this book. First time I read it, it just came out. Took me 2 days of non-stop reading. Luckily husband was away for the weekend with National Guards and I was pregnant with our first child. My youngest son is reading it and I’m re-reading it. New movie is coming out this year.
So close to being an epic horror story. I’m a big fan of Stephen King and I did love this book, but I’ve always felt he could have written a better version of the last few chapters that would have made it one of the best books of all time.
Typical Stephen King which is another in a long long list of great stories!
my first SK book ever 🙂 loved it! Couldn’t sleep for weeks
I love it they should definitely make more books like this
I hated IT……….maybe the viewpoint fit the time periods in the book but I saw it is purely hateful toward LGBTIA+ people, people of color, and Jewish people. Not to mention the preteen orgy was in poor taste. The idea of exposing kids to these views shows what’s wrong with people today.
This book is 18+, but it was wonderful. It is 1100 pages, but don’t let that intimidate you because from the beginning of the book to the end, you will be on edge. Lots of death, sexual things, and language. It’s about a magical clown and a group of children, but it’s not a happy story.
Fascinating.
This is speaking from a purely literary perspective. As an author, I did enjoy reading a book that told a story in a non-linear fashion. I also enjoyed the rich details that were strung together to make the horror story, It, a masterpiece. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a creepy tale as well as lovers of the written word.
Dude, this book lit my brain afire. I was always worried that I would never be able to finish this beast of a novel. But once I finally picked it up, I couldn’t put this sucker down. Amazing. Legit amazing. 🙂
Scariest look I ever read! Made me a true Stephen King fan. Read it 20 years ago and still remember it all today. Much better than the movies!!!
For as big of a book as this is, I can honestly say, I was never bored. Every chapter moved the story along without dragging anything out. I did have to put it down (a first ever for me) during the puppy/fridge scene. I thought the bike ride with Bill and his wife was pretty great; it was one of my favorite scenes. Another favorite was the one with Mike and the giant bird. Creepy.
This is an amazing book and I definitely recommend this for anyone who is thinking about reading it!
A page-turner! Once you pick up this book, you can’t put it down!. Incredibly descriptive setting and wonderfully developed characters. I’m from New England originally, and the way Stephen King describes the small town in Maine, where the book takes place, took me back to memories of my childhood years.
one of the scariest books I ever read.
I really liked the It movies but the book is much better. I like Steven King in general and It in particular. He does a great job of developing the characters and creating a scary atmosphere. It is classic Steven King.
thriller
its awsome best horror book ever!

This is probably the third (or fourth?), time I have read this book and was very surprised to learn that I had not reviewed it. Dooh.
I don’t know what else can be said about this book that hasn’t already been said by other reviewers. I can say that I love the way Mr. King imbues his characters with psychology. Whether they are children or adults, the reader has a front row seat into what they are thinking and feeling. The bit about the boys and Beverly giggling uproariously…well, who hasn’t lost control of themselves from time to time with laughter? (At least I hope you’ve had that experience. It’s fun!)
Mr. King also describes very well the fears we all face as children and as adults. Whether it is Mr. Pennywise – real or imagined – it is just as terrifying.
This is one of my favorites from Mr. King. He write so well and so colorful that the reader is present in every scene. The plotting is great, the transitions are smooth and flawless. He remains as one of my all-time favorite authors – no matter how many times I re-read his books.
Good, creepy fun.
