“A landmark in American literature” (Chicago Sun-Times)—Stephen King’s #1 national bestseller about seven adults who return to their hometown to confront a nightmare they had first stumbled on as teenagers…an evil without a name: It. Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when …
They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made twenty-eight years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers.
Readers of Stephen King know that Derry, Maine, is a place with a deep, dark hold on the author. It reappears in many of his books, including Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis, and 11/22/63. But it all starts with It.
“Stephen King’s most mature work” (St. Petersburg Times), “It will overwhelm you… to be read in a well-lit room only” (Los Angeles Times).

Loved it!
This book is awesome
I read this book long ago, in middle school. I loved it so much that I read it again once I finished–the only time I’ve done that with a book. Even to this day–over twenty years later–I still remember many of the characters and events that defined this book. Sure, it’s long, but it’s definitely worth it!
I never thought it was one of King’s best. Pennywise is legendary but the end of the novel, the cause of all the ills, is disappointing.
It is one of my favorite Stephen King books. I love scary books, but this one gave me nightmares. I’ve read it twice. I would reccomend it if you like scary stories.
Classic King
A great book until the end. Then a total disappointment.
Amazing
That it had suppsense and that it was scary at some parts and funny at some parts too.
This book is true Stephen King! It scares the daylights out of you and keeps you reading (with the lights on) page after page until the end. You will never look down a drain again or look at clowns the same way ever again.
thumbs up;-)
One of the best Stephen King books.
Classic King
It was great!
One of the scariest books that I have ever read.
It, is one of my favorite Stephen King characters. It’s also one of my favorite SK books; the other being both versions of The Stand.
Leave it to SK to take an alleged beloved character, i.e., a clown, and give it teeth… and claws; then turn it into something else altogether. I dislike clowns even moreso, now.
Do not watch the movie before you’ve read the book. Ever been afraid of a clown? Are clowns some of your childhood good memories? Read this one and you might just change your mind. Stephen King at his best.
By far THE very best horror story I have ever read. I was genuinely scared to read this at night and ever since, have been frightened of clowns. Oh but fear is so much fun, and never ever boring! A must read!!
By far one of the best book’s I have ever read.
Wow. A friend recommended IT, and so I borrowed his copy. After reading 3/4 of the book, I had to quit for now. Some of the scenes are disturbing, and they linger long after I put the audio book down. Stephen King is an excellent writer, which is why I picked up the book. I wanted to learn from him, but I just can’t finish it. It’s giving me nightmares. This book is not for the faint of heart. I thought I could handle it, but I’m just not tough enough, and I admit it. I’ll return to my beloved hard science fiction to chase away the bad dreams.
