“A landmark in American literature” (Chicago Sun-Times)—Stephen King’s #1 national bestseller about seven adults who return to their hometown to confront a nightmare they had first stumbled on as teenagers…an evil without a name: It. Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when …
They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made twenty-eight years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers.
Readers of Stephen King know that Derry, Maine, is a place with a deep, dark hold on the author. It reappears in many of his books, including Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis, and 11/22/63. But it all starts with It.
“Stephen King’s most mature work” (St. Petersburg Times), “It will overwhelm you… to be read in a well-lit room only” (Los Angeles Times).

If you don’t know what this book is about, you’ve been living under a rock.
I re-read this recently and I had forgotten how many great details are in the book. The juxtaposition between the young Loser’s Club and their adult counterparts really ties the story together. It’s gross, creepy, and wonderful.
I won’t talk about the end. Stephen King is not known for his powerful endings.
One thing: this novel gave me Coulrophobia. That is all.
BEST
Loved it! (Literally!)
What an amazing book! I’ve read this about a half dozen time, and I still love the journey that it takes then reader on.
It’s cute more than anything, like 80% of it is all about these misfit kids coming together to be best friends…with 19% of it the scary stuff you expect. The remaining 1% is a drug trip.
I love most Stephen King books
Anything Stephen King writes is good.
It has been quite a few years since I read this book, but I remember that I could not put it down. The children’s characters were so real and innocent – you were invested in them from the beginning. I have absolutely no interest in seeing the movie – can’t possibly hold a candle to the book, and I don’t want to ruin my memory of a great read.
Stephen King is the grand master of horror. Right up there with Lovecraft.
i love it
I will never look at clowns the same way! A must read by this great author.
Scariest book I ever read! Gave me nightmares of a dart board pulsating and balloons popping all around. The darts were syringes, and the flights were razor blades. As the dartboard pulsed, the darts popped out and went flying all around the room. I can’t play darts anymore and quite my dart team because of this nightmare! I hate you, Steven King! What’s your next book?!
Excellent characters. Engaging all the way up to the ending, then not so much.
IT is a scary yet interesting book that’s what I like about it.
I really enjoyed this one. Good story with a satisfactory ending.
Scariest book I’ve ever read!
Made me want to sleep with the lights on!
This is probably my all time favorite book!
Fantastic read ….. couldn’t put it down till it was finished!
