“A landmark in American literature” (Chicago Sun-Times)—Stephen King’s #1 national bestseller about seven adults who return to their hometown to confront a nightmare they had first stumbled on as teenagers…an evil without a name: It. Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when …
They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made twenty-eight years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers.
Readers of Stephen King know that Derry, Maine, is a place with a deep, dark hold on the author. It reappears in many of his books, including Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis, and 11/22/63. But it all starts with It.
“Stephen King’s most mature work” (St. Petersburg Times), “It will overwhelm you… to be read in a well-lit room only” (Los Angeles Times).

Stupid book… I was so disappointed
I have read all of his books to date and this is his best one of the scary stories by far. Just haunting and great characters as well.
i thout that it was scary
the best book +move
The storyline alone is enough to scare the pants off you! There is no better author at twisting and turning reality inside out making the reader question everything they thought to be true in the world.
I would love to recommend this book, but then I feel I would be wasting your time. The book itself is awesome until you get to the ridiculous and worthless ending.
I know, I know it’s not a book for pregnant women, but I had to read, and I’m so glad I did it.
I hadn’t read a Stephen King novel in quite some time and regret that decision. As soon as I read a dozen or so pages into It, I remembered how much I enjoyed his writing style. His characters–both in their childhoods and adulthoods–and the town of Derry in all it’s horrid small town glory came alive for me through his descriptions.
There were a few places I felt a little bogged down in detail and I wasn’t quite as scared as I’d hoped to be, but this is an enjoyable book with memorable characters and a memorable monster.
One of his best!
King does it again with Pennywise the Clown. What are YOU afraid of? Pennywise knows…
I thought this book was very scary. Even reading it during daylight hours was terrifying. I loved this book. One of the scariest books I’ve ever read. Highly recommended.
WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT FROM A BOOK? Great characters that you will love, an amazing world created in Derry, and chilling images. I haven’t read much King yet, and this was my first and will probably always be my favorite. IT is worth the page investment (the ending sure is weird, but, hey, who cares when a book is this amazing?).
There are two narratives going on at once, so you are sure never to be bored in IT. King makes each page, detail, and character count. I would sit down to read for 15 minutes, and find myself sucked in until the wee hours of the night.

One of the best books I’ve ever read (and I read a lot!)
I’ll read anything by Mr. King.
One of the only books I have ever read twice.
This book was very slow at first, so slow that I put it down for 8 months. I am glad I picked it back up though. It still had it’s boring spots, and too much description on things that didn’t matter but all in all it was a decent book. I will not give up on reading King books yet 🙂
This book made an end to the innocent allure of clowns and turned them into terrifying aliens that eat children. I enjoy the way King takes off into uncharted waters — he starts with a clown and ends by blowing up half the universe. In a manner of speaking.
This Book Is Awesome! It’s BETTER Than ANY Of The Movies Or Equal To.
This a well written horror story. Stephen King plays upon the fears of children that also are fears of adults. The story centers on the children that handle the fear themselves.
