“A landmark in American literature” (Chicago Sun-Times)—Stephen King’s #1 national bestseller about seven adults who return to their hometown to confront a nightmare they had first stumbled on as teenagers…an evil without a name: It. Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when …
They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made twenty-eight years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children. Now, children are being murdered again and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry’s sewers.
Readers of Stephen King know that Derry, Maine, is a place with a deep, dark hold on the author. It reappears in many of his books, including Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis, and 11/22/63. But it all starts with It.
“Stephen King’s most mature work” (St. Petersburg Times), “It will overwhelm you… to be read in a well-lit room only” (Los Angeles Times).

YES!!! I DID IT!!! I’ve been reading IT on and off for a year and half. I read about 70% last summer and then every now and then I’d pick it up and read a chapter or two. I finished it by listening to the audiobook….which is awesome by the way! I’m still not even sure what IT was. It’s twisted and demented and beautiful. It’s a story of love and innocence and friendship. Of course, I highly recommend reading (or listening) to IT in your lifetime.
This book scared me so much that I was afraid to go into my basement! It still scares me every time I read it.
Was scary unpredictable surprised ending
The book is Always better than the movie & this one used is. It was def a scary read.
It’s creepy!
Read this when I was younger and I was scared! Its why I love books to this day.
One of the best by Stephen King
Loved it!!!
The only thing I didn’t like about this book is the ending. Much scarier then the movie
Super character build up, scary, classic Stephen King but I honestly thought the ending was a bit of a let down
Although this one took me a while, it was well worth it. These scenes are the most haunting that SK has created.
As with all of King’s books, the characters feel like old friends by the end and you never want the story to end.
Made me keep the lights on at night! Loved it!
I loved it, it was amazing! i liked the begining Stephen King
Stephen King hits on the mark again. When your fears become your demons and your demons can kill you! Truly loved the pack of friendship in this as well as the soft spot I have for Bill and Ben.
Along with The Stand, this is my favorite King book, and I’ve read almost every one (this one three times). From childhood to adulthood, the characters exhibit truly human emotions and actions – there are no “super heroes” here. Just great writing, full of suspense and action, and “what will happen next?”
How could you not enjoy a Stephen King book? One of his classics.
One of the scariest books I have ever read.
I have read every book by Stephen King and like this one the least.
I read this book when it first came out. It was very scary. I know people who had problems taking a shower because of the bloody shower scene was so graphic. I have read it a couple of times and I just love it.
