Great job of characterization. I started with book two so I missed Cameron’s story. The story dragged somewhat in the middle but I am looking forward to reading Gia’s story.
This was just the perfect sweet yet sexy romance. Wendy is the maid-of-honor in her best friend Jane’s upcoming wedding, but she can’t seem to keep her eyes off Jane’s brother, the same guy who broke her heart as teen (though maybe he doesn’t realize it…). Will the wedding bring them together or push them further apart?
This story is a fairly standard romance, but with likable characters, wonderful writing, and no anxiety-inducing secrets to drag the plot down it’s the perfect easy read for those looking for a contemporary romance. It’s told in dual perspectives, which is a great benefit to the story (and my personal preference). Nothing about this story is groundbreaking, it’s just… nice. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
A super slow burn, but I loved it!
Favorite Quotes:
Maybe this hadn’t been a good idea. Maybe the correct number of times a man should accompany his little sister wedding dress shopping was actually zero… And, ignorant as he was about such matters, he’d had no idea how long it took to put one of those things on— or how many helpers it required. Each new dress required a small army of overly Botoxed women in Chanel suits to carry it into the fitting room, and, from the sound of things, to hoist it onto Jane.
She still thinks she’s doing the ‘low-key’ thing… So she can’t get too out of control because that will violate her image of herself and create a disturbance in the force.
“One and done. Two and through.” That was Gia’s motto…
“We have a nice ‘hot for teacher’ experience. Or we do a Los Alamos package— your dancer will arrive attired in a scientific lab coat and hand out sex toys emblazoned with the phrase ‘Caution: nuclear fallout.’” Wendy cracked up. A person really could order up anything in Vegas, it seemed.
“I have no plans to get married either.” Gia raised her glass again as if to punctuate the point. “But ‘spinster’ implies, like, dust and cobwebs.” She made a vague gesture at her body. “Ain’t nothing getting dusty here.”
My Review:
I have hit my favorite jam with this delightful series and will profess to be near gleeful with the knowledge of having the next book already locked and loaded on my kindle for immediate perusal. Every book in this beguiling series has been an expertly balanced mix of clever levity; smart, endearing, yet somewhat emotionally damaged characters; insightfully observant, smooth and alluring writing that hits all the feels; volcanic sensual scenes; and engaging and Pez related storylines. It feels like nirvana. I do hope Jenny Holiday isn’t easily startled, as she seems to have gained a rather rabid fangirl.
I love this book
This is a fun read about a bridesmaid with a relatable bridezilla.
Wendy Liu had her heart broken at a young age by her best friend’s brother. She had to build up a wall to protect herself and hasn’t been the same since that day. When Noah Denning enters her life again for his sisters wedding, she remembers why she’s always conveniently been gone every time he’s come home to visit.
I absolutely loved this book and ordered both of them in paperback when I was only 60% of the way through reading. They can be read as a stand alone book, but it’s more enjoyable if you read in series order. A wonderfully written and heart-warming story, that I’ll be reading again soon!
Wendy Liu finds herself in a problematic situation, her friend just made her a maid of honor for her wedding, which means she will be front and center at all the wedding festivities, and awfully close to the man she has spent years trying to avoid. She has harbored a serious crush on Noah Denning for years, but a long time ago he got a little too close to her heart and broke it, and since then she has kept him at a distance, often going out of her way to avoid him. She has her shield up, fully intact and protecting her heart, and she doesn’t intend on letting him lure her in again… but sometimes love doesn’t follow the rules!
After his father’s passing Noah Denning vowed to take care of his mother and sister, even if it meant working 24-7 and giving up his personal life, to keep a roof over their heads and in supply of everything they could possibly need. Being a prosecutor in one of the biggest cities in the country means there is always someone breaking the law and keeping him in the courtroom fighting battles, but he never expected to return to Canada and fight a battle at his own sisters wedding. He knew reuniting with Wendy Liu might bring about some animosity, and friendly banter, but this go around she came prepared and is really putting him through the paces… which also reignites some long forgotten sparks.
It Takes To is a wonderfully crafted second chance romance that is full of moments to make you swoon, moments to make you giggle, and moments that will put a squeeze on your heart. I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two navigate through their little competition, throw around some heated banter, and of course find their path to love… it was purely magical! I must say it was quite an impressive first read, it kept me captivated from start to finish, and made me just curious enough to make a return visit and reunite with these endearing characters. Highly recommend this charming tale, it’s sure to leave you smiling long after the last page is turned!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
It Takes Two is the second in Jenny Holiday’s Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series. I hadn’t read the first one when I picked up this one, but I was hooked to the point that I had to go back and track down the first one. While it can easily be read as a stand-alone, I got so invested in the characters I wanted to know what happened before. Wendy and Noah are the perfect combination of history and new-love. I can’t wait for the rest of the series, and to go back and start at the beginning.

Mary Jo –
Wendy has successfully avoided Noah Denning for years, which has been hard to do since he’s her best friend’s brother. Being humiliated in front of the school so many years ago not only wounded her pride, but her heart. She thought that Noah cared about her, but she was proven wrong when he ditched her to work.
Noah has worked hard to make a successful life for himself so that he can take care of his mother and sister. Not that they need financial support any longer, but he still does everything he can to make their lives better. That was especially true after his father died and he had to take care of everything – even putting his own happiness on hold to focus on his family.
Noah has long admired Wendy and they verbally spar like crazy. He’s often wondered why their relationship changed after he went off to college and only now realizes the night he stood her up caused a deeper hurt than he imagined. Wendy has carried that pain in her heart for a long time and only after her aunt gets hurt does she realize that by holding on to that pain, she has not lived life to its fullest.
I enjoyed the book and seeing how Noah and Wendy’s relationship progressed. It started off rocky but as they got to know each other again, you could see how much they truly cared about the other. Their competitive natures lead to sparks and flames. What Noah and Wendy don’t realize is how much work it is to hide their relationship and are surprised when it all comes to light. And it all happens in the weeks leading up to Noah’s sister’s wedding.
Reviewers on the Wicked Reads Review Team were provided a free copy of It Takes Two (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #2) by Jenny Holiday to read and review.
I’m loving Jenny Holiday’s Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series so very much! It’s fun, swoony and sexy and Wendy and Noah gave me all the feels in the latest installment, It Takes Two.
I’ll never not love the best friend’s big brother trope, especially when it’s done as well as it was with Wendy and Noah. I loved these two characters so much. Their history was rather complicated, so it was a bit enemies to lovers with a hint of a second chance romance. Noah was such a sweet, protective and caring guy. It was so easy to crush on him. Wendy was a little prickly at times, but she was also a good friend to those she loved. She’d suffered a lot of loss in her life and her walls were definitely up high and tight. But, Noah always did seem to find a way through them. He always had, for better or worse.
Wendy and Noah’s story was sweet and a little sexy and I just couldn’t get enough of them. There was a bit of a slow burn as these two came to terms with their feelings, but it felt right and natural. Things definitely heated up, too. Their “what happens in New York stays in New York” fling was SUPER hot, but it was also obvious there were some very real feelings underneath it all. I was happy to see the more casual agreement move into a deeper connection. Wendy and Noah were so perfectly suited, I can’t imagine them NOT together.
The other fun part about It Takes Two was the secondary characters. First off, we get to see Cam and Jane, of One and Only fame, in the lead up to their special day. And, well, the special day itself. We also get a chance to learn even more about Gia, the last woman standing, which just made me want her book even more. Three Little Words just can’t get here soon enough. I’ll be waiting with total grabby hands until I get it.
FAVORITE QUOTES
There was no universe in which Noah Denning was going to be the “milk” Wendy Lou Who got for free.
This was why he avoided casual sex. It so often came with all these confusing emotions. You didn’t know where you stood. You had no control over how things were going to go.
“You’re Jane’s person. Jane’s my person. Therefore, you’re stuck with me. Simple logic.”
Jesus Christ. He almost felt like bursting into song. Was this what being in love was like—being in a musical?
This book flowed smoothly and I devoured it in a day or two. It was nothing deep or dark, but a very enjoyable contemporary romance, full of heart, friendship and humor. It was refreshingly well written. The story line was good, the characters behavior was honest. Wendy and Noah have known each other for quite some time. They grew up together and Noah was infatuated with Wendy, his younger sister’s best friend. One missed opportunity ended in Noah and Wendy going their separate ways. They never expected to be close enough again to experience the undeniable attraction between them, but they are reunited for Noah’s sister wedding.
They must overcome a few hurdles amid stressful wedding planning, as trust seems to be the biggest factor hindering their relationship. I enjoyed how the story unfolded from the perspective of both Noah and Wendy, as they navigate their feelings for one another. And while I was appreciative of the direction the story took, there were times that I wasn’t as appreciative of the characters reactions to what happened in their past. It seemed to have caused some drama and misunderstandings that could have been avoided.
Noah and Wendy’s road to happily ever after was entertaining and enjoyable and I’m looking forward to reading more of this author’s work.
It Takes Two is a witty, sexy and wonderfully entertaining romantic comedy, and it’s a delightful second installment to Jenny Holiday’s phenomenal Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series.
Noah wasn’t just Wendy’s best friend’s big brother — he was also her friend and her family. When she developed a crush on him in her teens and he unknowingly broke her heart, their relationship was forever altered. Their friendly, competitive dynamic took on a sharper tone, and Wendy avoided him whenever possible. Years later, they are together again for Noah’s sister’s wedding activities, and Noah realizes that he sees Wendy as much more than a friend or someone he needs to take care of. For different reasons, they are both scared to consider the romantic possibilities, and they verbally spar over almost everything in an attempt to dance around their attraction. But forced proximity pushes them to the breaking point in which they can no longer deny what is happening between them.
Wendy is smart, sassy and fiercely independent, and Noah’s demonstrative, easygoing nature brings out her more vulnerable and sensitive side. They are complex, likable characters who are captivating to watch as they bicker their way to understanding the truth of their feelings and achieving a meeting of the minds and of the hearts. Don’t miss this stellar romantic comedy!
It Takes Two is the second book in The Bridesmaids Behaving Badly Series and can be read as a stand-alone novel. It Takes Two follows the story of Noah and Wendy. Noah and Wendy have known each other for forever. In Wendy’s eyes, Noah is the one she’s always wanted, but he broke her heart. Wendy has spent many years trying to avoid Noah. But when Noah’s sister gets married, staying away is no longer an option…..
It Takes Two is a super sweet romantic comedy with a bit of forbidden flare. I’m a big fan of the friends/bff’s older brother troupe and this one was a lot of fun. Noah and Wendy fought like cats and dog and were always trying to out do each other. I loved watching these two interact. Their banter was entertaining and led to some seriously delicious tension.
Wendy is the sweetest girl. She’s hard working, smart, isn’t afraid of a challenge, and is a fan of casual sex. That brings us to Noah. Noah is hard-working, dependable, protective and a serial dater. He has a bit of an attitude when it comes to causal sex, but doesn’t judge others on their preferences. These two have so much in common and such explosive chemistry. I really enjoyed the two of them together and loved watching them try to figure things out.
It Takes Two was a really fun book to spend my day swept up in. I loved the characters and the story-line. There is a bit of an insta-love quality to this story, but I think it works really well. It Takes Two had just the right amount of romance, steamy moments, laughter and light drama. I think book is a perfect summer read that will leave you with a smile on your face.
This book has both cussing (including f-bombs) and explicit on-page sex. If these things will cause you to leave a bad review, you should skip this one. Although this is book two of the series and there are tie-ins to the first book, this one completely stands alone and you *do not* have to have read One and Only to enjoy this one. In my opinion you *should* read it because the book is great and it adds a lot to this story, but isn’t required reading.
It Takes Two is a fun story that has not only a best friend’s brother theme, but it also has a frenemies-to-lovers vibe that makes this story totally irresistible. Wendy and Noah were in each others’ lives for years, but had grown apart after years spent in separate cities. Their backstory, and that long-time bond, make this book something really special from start to finish. I loved the way that they bickered and bantered, and the way that they actually saw each other and had a relationship rather than the usual romance novel “falling into bed = insta-love” schtick. These two actually had a genuine, honest relationship that grew and changed throughout the course of the story.
The thing that makes this book (and this entire series) is so great is that Ms. Holiday has a tremendous way with words. The descriptions and the humor (especially their inner thoughts, oh my gosh) in this story were so fun and witty that I couldn’t stop laughing and highlighting things like a madwoman as I read. I love when a book can make me stop reading and highlight something fantastic while cackling or giggle-snorting and that happened many times in this one.
Wendy was an interesting character. She was such a strong woman who had so much going for her, yes, but inside she was also still such a relatable hot mess. I liked the way that she worked through her issues – both with Noah and within her own mind. And Noah was fantastic. First and foremost, I loved the way that he loved his sister. His love of Jane was nothing short of beautiful, and it really set the tone for the kind of person that he was. Even though he was a little obtuse where Wendy was concerned at times, the fact that he honestly adored her despite it all was undeniable.
There were a few moments that made me want to cry, but there was also a quote that spoke to me as I prepare for what will be a major and devastating loss of someone I love dearly. It hit me so hard and so deeply that I highlighted the words and then wrote it down by hand so that I will never forget it. I won’t spoil it but it turns out that Reverend Bill is incredibly wise.
Also, it needs to be said that Cameron (the hero in book one) is an amazing book hero. Without going into details, every time he was on the page, I fell more and more in love with him.
I would highly recommend this story to anyone who loves a true, genuine love story between two characters who just belong together.
I cannot wait for The Glamazon’s book.
It Takes Two Jenny Holiday by Jenny Holiday is book Two in the Bridesmaids Behaving Badly Series. This is the story of Wendy Liu and Noah Denning. I haven’t yet read the previous book in this series, so for me this was a standalone book.
Wendy and Noah have always liked each other but nothing ever really came of it. Now his sister is getting married and Wendy is there front and center. Will this be their chance to work things out and follow their feelings?
Really enjoyed their story!
