“Addictive like all Kylie Scott books, you’ll swoon, laugh, ache, put your life on hold, and compulsively read until the wee hours of the night—only to reread the whole thing the next morning. Perfection!” – Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling authorReturning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she … bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.
Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.
Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings.
Sometimes first loves are the truest.

ARC review For honest review this is a beautiful story of Adele who at 16 yrs old became close with Peter 15yrs older who worked with her father. When she turned 18 a instant happened that had her leaving .now years later she is back for her father’s wedding.
I absolutely loved this book ,the characters and the plot were fantastic, i loved it fron start to finish 🙂 i could not put this book down and pretty much read it in one sitting 🙂 if you love a good romantic comedy then you most definitely will enjoy this book!
Adele has totally been in love with her Dad’s best friend Pete for like ever and she kinda throws herself at him when she is 18 but then everyone finds out and she leaves town and hasn’t been back in like 7 years and low and behold she coming back for her father’s wedding and is having to stay at Pete’s place, so there’s a ton of tension to say the least but as they spend more time together they not only rekindle thier old friendship but they end up in bed and let’s just say they set the pages on fire!
I loved Pete ,he’s the classic cool older guy who is totally swoon worthy but thinks he knows what best for everyone until a certain girl gets under his skin and makes him see what he’s been missing all these years!
This book was fun and romantic and sexy ,i love Kylie Scott’s writing ,she is so awesome!
I purchased the audio book.
This is a second chance kinda sorta with a bit of forbidden love story. You see Adele had a best friend, Pete, when she was younger. Even though he was 15 years older than her she had a huge crush on him. When she turned 18 she decided to let him know how she felt. Well lets just say it didn’t go as she planned. Quite the opposite actually. with a broken heart she decided to leave town.
Now she has to return home for her dads wedding and face Pete. What a big surprise when she finds out she is staying with Pete for the week. Pete’s head is all over the place does he want her to stay see where things go or is he scared of his feelings.
I wasn’t sure I would like Adele but to see her as a kid in the flash backs and to see her as an adult was a great transformation. I loved her spunk, sass, and tell it like it is. She put Pete in his place a few times. Pete and Adele relationship was passionate at times and then Pete would put on the breaks. Will these two be able to make it work or will Adele give up and leave again?
I enjoyed listening to this story. Andi Arndt did a good job with the narration and the different voices of each characters. Andi was able to keep me in the story and I did not want to pause it.
If Adele was real and pint sized, I’d stick the girl in my pocket and take her home with me!
Scott always writes her characters with some certain ‘thing’ that either makes me completely relate to them, or completely adore them – often, it’s both. Adele is not an exception. She’s blunt and rambling, a little awkward and absolutely all ‘her’.
But her insecurities are frayed at the edges as she returns home after years. After an embarrassing rejection and fully shattered heart. She’s only ever been in love with one man and avoiding him while home for her father’s wedding isn’t an option. He’s her dad’s best friend, business partner and neighbor.
Avoiding rekindling her love for him isn’t avoidable either. And…perhaps, another broken heart is the only thing guaranteed with this trip.
Pete. What to say about Pete?? Pete holds one of my favorite Book-Boyfriend qualities. He’s a man of few words. Tight lipped, cold, a bit of a total asshole. That’s how I like them. He delivered in a big way!
The interaction between Pete and Adele was really fun but layered with enough frustration and emotion to having you riding a full spectrum of feels.
For me, the only thing holding this back from a stellar 5 star read was the a lack of insight into Pete’s head. I mean, you get it, I just would have appreciated a little more of it, especially at the end. Otherwise it was a great, light and fun read.
I really enjoyed this book by Kylie Scott. The forbidden storyline was great. The push and pull between the characters created a great tension that had me needing to know what happened next. I definitely recommend this book.
I am not a “second chance” romance favorite, but I love Kylie Scott. Plus an age gap? I can totally dig it. And I sort of did.
Until I didn’t.
Adele was near perfect as a character for me. Strong, sticks to her guns, addresses her emotions freely, funny monologue, etc. Pete just wasn’t as great of a character as her. I was let down by him. His turnaround to happily ever after just wasn’t believable for me.
Still enjoyable and I look forward to more from Kylie Scott!
Sure to get you out of that reading funk! Loved every bit of this book. Read it in one sitting.
I expected so much more from this story. Pete and Adele were okay characters. I actually liked Shanti more than I liked the main characters. There was nothing about Pete and Adele that made them memorable characters for me. The flow of the story was my biggest issue because it was too slow for my liking and it made the whole story drag. I’ve read other books from this author and absolutely loved them so it was disappointing that I didn’t enjoy this one.
It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time is why I love Kylie Scott’s books. Funny, snarky, sexy, emotional, and romantic… I loved it. I think this might be my father’s best friend book, and she knocked it out the park for me!
Kylie Scott is always a good read.
I loved the back and forth through their relationship. The love scenes are great and the characters are wonderful.
I wasnt sure I’d like this one because of the teen crush and difference in age. But I connected with the characters.
Pete has this strange friendship with his boss’ teen daughter, confiding in and chiding her, listening to her teen chatter and craziness. He’s truly her friend, which is odd with a 15y age difference. And at the fresh age of 18 Adele wants him to abandon the “kid” concept and embrace (and more) the woman. This goes awry in spectacular fashion, resulting in a seven year separation from the town she grew up in and the man who was her best friend.
They’ve both got family issues but Pete was a 40yo bachelor who seemed unwilling to change. It took a lot for him to make the decision to stand up to his past and fight for her. He annoyed me at times with his denial but there is so much banter and connection between them, that I could look past his “blockheaded” attitude. () Adele has sass and she is not at all afraid to call Pete out on his crap. She stands up to him and her father. She even recognizes when to walk away, to protect her heart and move on.
The ending .
I absolutely love Kylie Scott’s books. Pete and Adele’s story was interesting with the age differences and the fact that Pete is her dads business partner. A story with humor, some drama and a whole lot of love! I enjoyed this book immensely, like I enjoy all Kylie Scott’s books.
It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time will lure you in and hold you captive right to the very end. What some would class as a taboo story with Adele falling for the one man she shouldn’t, her father’s best friend Pete. Seven years ago she made a fool of herself declaring her love and after punches were thrown, relationships were in tatters she ran. Now Adele has no choice after all this time but to face her first love. These two characters will struggle getting past the grudge that Pete holds or is it that maybe he realizes Adele isn’t a young girl anymore, she is all woman. This story is about understanding that sometimes your first love is also true love. Their story is full of angst, frustration and some seriously funny moments. Adele’s smart mouth will at the times have you laughing and wanting to high five her. These two heat up the pages and will have your heart racing.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review and all opinions are my own.
Since reading Trust by Kylie Scott and going on to read Chaser from her Dive bar series, I have grown to love her writing and adore her characters. I couldn’t wait to jump straight into It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time and find out all about this May/December romance that is extremely hot and slightly forbidden. Who doesn’t love an interesting story line and some naughty action? It wasn’t long and I was completely drawn into Adele and Pete’s tumultuous love affair that started out as an unusual friendship that soon became unresolved conflict that turned into uncontrollable heat and undeniable soul touching love.
Adele Reid has had feelings for Pete since she was just a sixteen year old impressionable teenager and they have yet to go away even after an extremely embarrassing situation which caused her to exile herself from her family and hometown for seven years. I loved getting to know this witty and quirky woman and see how she changed from the inquisitive teenager that she was to the strong woman that she has become. Kylie took us on a roller coaster ride of emotions and made sure that we experienced every moment of Adele’s thoughts and feelings deep inside our soul.
Even though I am not a person who loves relationships with a big age difference, I inevitably found myself drawn into the angst and heated attraction that seem to suffocate everyone in the room when Adele and Pete are around one another. I soon found myself deeply in love and lust for this man who first became Adele’s friend and rock in her somewhat chaotic and often neglected world. His and Adele’s relationship is one that evolves over time and becomes all consuming in every way. Pete has Adele and readers everywhere yearning and panting for more time with this man who is Adele’s everything!
Kylie Scott delivers a love story that is told through a young woman’s eyes who finds love before it is acceptable but withstands the test of time. I highly recommend It Seems Like a Good Idea at the Time for a read that grips your emotions and doesn’t let go! Kylie creates such a profound fictional world and lifelike characters that you never want to leave. I am becoming more of a fan girl and more obsessed with each book of hers that I read.
I love the older man and young woman story lines it makes you see men are not that smart when it comes to matters of the heart. We have Adele who is much wiser than she is and Pete who has to be the most stubbornness man ever. Right away you can see the attraction and have to applaud Adele for never giving up on what the heart wants. Once again Kylie Scott shows no matter what the topic is love can prevail even older stubborn sexy men.

About It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The TIme:
Adele’s life has been a hit and run series of relationships. It’s not her fault that she met the one man she wanted for all time at a young age.. Everything would have been solid, if only Pete wasn’t 15 years older than her.
Now Adele is back for her dad’s wedding and she’s no longer the impressionable teenager she once was. Now its her last chance to get Pete to see her more as a woman and less as the kid he used to know. They are soon going to learn, the age gap isn’t the only issue standing in the way of a relationship between the two. Adele’s father is.
My Thoughts:
Holy Hell, It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time is the exact reason why I am a HUGE fan of Kylie Scott’s work! I had no idea what I was getting into when I started ISLAGIATT, A few things I expected though was some hot as hell chemistry, a little bit of drama, and a story that will sweep me away. Kylie Scott delivered all and so much more.
I LOVED Adele’s quirky vibes. That’s another thing I am intrigued by when diving into a novel by Kylie Scott. Her characters aren’t your normal everyday cookie cutter characters. Nah, you never know what’s going to come out of their mouths. Its so unlike the norm. I loved the witty humor and the endless banter.
Alright, let me be honest, when it comes to the ‘age gap’ trope I’m typically not a fan….at all. I tend to get the Creepy Uncle vibes from novels such as these. But with Adele and Pete’s relationship, not once did I have that Creepy Uncle vibe feeling. I felt the truth and the longing from these two…. At an adult age. Not once did I feel Pete toed the relationship fence when Adele was a teenager. That is usually a huge make it or break it moment for me and Kylie Scott did not let me down.
Overall, I loved both relationship sides of this novel. I loved the young love Adele experienced and the heartache in which her young love feelings initially led to. On an adult point, I loved the slow burn between these two. Adele is scared to death to feel something initially close to what she felt as a teenager, so she puts up a wall forcing Pete out. Its intriguing to watch Pete bust through those walls when he, himself, still has his guard up. Alright, that’s enough rambling on my part. If you all are looking for something fun with quirky characters and a slow burn vibe, I can easily recommend this book. Don’t let the age gap turn you away, like it almost did me. It’s too great to let it slip through your fingers.
As I’m writing this, I’m still trying to figure out the words to describe this book. As far as Kylie Scott books go, this one wasn’t exactly my favorite of hers, but I didn’t hate it either. It was different than what I’ve read by her and I’m still wrapping my head around the hero.
I’ve been a bit surprised with myself and the forbidden romances I’ve been reading. I don’t mind reading about age gaps, they don’t turn me off like they do other people. I really wanted to love this book, but it wasn’t there for me. It definitely had everything to be something great, but it was the hero and the connection between Adele and Peter that just didn’t work at all.
I actually loved Adele and really enjoyed her personality. She was a no filter kind of girl and ALWAYS cut to the chase. She wasn’t afraid to say her feelings, she always kept it real especially when it came to the extremely closed off Peter.
And then we have Peter, the emotionally stunted man that never says the right thing or well he just doesn’t say much at all. I felt like I got zero emotion out of him and as I kept reading, I was waiting for him to open up. Because eventually they do and by the time he does, it was a little sliver that didn’t exactly satisfy me. There was an incident that happened between Adele and Peter when she was a teenager, well it was more on Adele’s end, but we quickly gather that Peter was mad about it for quite a few years. And every time they tried to talk about it, Peter would grunt and just not say much, but was always the first to state that they needed to talk about it. All in all, he just needed to figure his sh*t out for the entirety of the book.
Even with all of that being said, I didn’t hate Peter, but I just wish we got more romance from him and that he opened up more. I feel like I barely got to know him, but learned so much about Adele. I still think there’s someone better out there for her, but the heart what it wants in this one. And there’s really no changing that.
SO yeah, it wasn’t my favorite, but I didn’t dislike it.
Occasionally a book comes along and it’s pure perfection. I’m not talking just perfect characters, or the perfect trope, but pure book perfection. That was this book for me.
I’ve been in the worst book funk. It has lasted almost a whole month. I’d almost given up on breaking my funk, but then this book hit my kindle. I’ll admit. I was nervous…I’d had crap luck with books. What if this was the same?! But once I started this book, I literally couldn’t put it down. I had things to do, errands to run and I skipped that to keep reading. I even put off getting ready for work, until the book was done (literally 5 minutes before I had to leave for work). So when I saw this book was perfect, and I read it in one sitting, I mean it.
One of the best things about this book was the history between Pete and Adele. Even before you get the full story about them, you could feel the history. The author DOES utilize flashbacks to show their past/friendship/foundation. I thought it worked really well.
I loved how there was frank honesty between Pete & Adele. It wasn’t always comfortable, but it was honest.
Even though I loved everything about this book, my absolute favorite part was when Pete gave into Adele/his feelings. That whole scene made me giddy.
This is a book that I KNOW I’ll read again, and it might even be one of the very few books that I’ll read back to back because it was so good. Kylie Scott has outdone herself, and that’s saying something since I’ve enjoyed all I’ve read by her.
It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time by Kylie Scott is a fun yet complex romance. When Adele comes home for her dad’s wedding after being gone for seven years some things have changed and some things have not. Seven years ago she was only eighteen and her crush on Pete, who is both 15 years older than her and works with her father, caused a bit of trouble. To say the least. Now she is older and hopefully wiser.
Once Adele is back home it becomes evident that what once was a teenage crush can be so much more. Her connection to Pete is more than something superficial, it always was and now a friendship which became young love can have a chance to actually be explored. I enjoyed the storytelling and character creation the Ms. Scott develops. This was a fun story but also one that was well built. Any time when reading a novel about something that is at times considered a bit forbidden it needs to be well done and this one really is.
Overall I very much enjoyed It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time by Kylie Scott. Adele’s character, who the story’s POV was written in, was one that was relatable and what she and Pete had was natural, real and passionate.
