Headstrong American heiress Lillian Bowman has come to England to find an aristocratic husband. Unfortunately, no man is strong enough to tame the stubborn beauty’s fierce will. Except, perhaps, the powerful and arrogant Earl of Westcliff—a man Lillian despises more than anyone she’s ever met.Marcus, Lord Westcliff, is famous for his icy English reserve and his supreme self-control. But something … something about the audacious Lillian drives him mad. Whenever they’re in the same room, they can’t stop themselves from battling furiously to gain the upper hand.
Then one afternoon, a stunningly sensuous encounter changes everything . . . and Lillian discovers that beneath the earl’s reserved façade, he is the passionate and tender lover of her dreams. What neither Westcliff nor Lillian suspect, however, is that a sinister conspiracy threatens to destroy any chance of happiness. After a shocking betrayal endangers Lillian’s safety—and possibly her life—will Marcus be able to save her before it’s too late?

This was so fantastic! The world, the characters, the build, the heat, I was in love with it all. It’s such a well thought out and detailed story that completely pulled me in!
You always hope & cross your fingers that the second book in a new series will live up to the successful first. With It Happened One Autumn Lisa Kleypas has happily given us a wonderful sequel & stand alone story. Lillian Bowman is a typical New Yorker, brassy, blunt, untitled and rich. The Ton would rather eat dirt than befriend our poor heroine. …
Lillian Bowman was a favorite of mine in Secrets of a Summer Night, and It Happened One Autumn has solidified my adoration for this feisty, headstrong American soap heiress. Despite her mother’s insistence, she couldn’t give a toss about finding a titled husband. I was continually amused by her fun-loving antics and the way she defies the myriad …
I loved Lillian’s story. Wallflower tropes are one of my favorites.
My favorite series
Enemies to lovers. He is a Duke who follows the rules, she is a rich American whose mother is determined to get her a husband with a title. She and her younger sister join with another wallflower to plot for a husband. The sisters have the money and the friend the knowledge of British society.
Once the attraction is acknowledged, the heat …
Book two in the wallflowers series was as entrancing as the first book. I loved the characters and their love story, it kept me entertained and had me laughing at the bickering and I just got lost in the story and couldn’t put the book down
2nd read: 2020
1st read: many years ago
For the readers who have read the first book of this series ‘Secrets of a summer night’ they will remember Lillian Bowman and Lord Westcliff (Marcus) very well and especially their dislike of each other. So you can imagine that I was very curious how those two ‘enemies’ would become a couple. I can tell you …
Headstrong American heroine meets her match with a stuffy British Lord- swoon!
My Thoughts:
It Happened One Autumn is the second book in the Wallflowers series. In this sequel, we get Lillian Bowman’s story. Lillian is a bold, brash, and outspoken American. Her parents want her and their younger daughter Daisy to marry an English gentleman with a title. Unfortunately, Lillian’s disposition is a huge turnoff to most of …
Heroine is annoyingly willful and TSTL several times. Dubious consent at times in their sexual encounters. 2.5 Stars
Wonderful Author, Wonderful book full of wit and romance. One story in a magnificent series of which I have read them all.
Lisa has done it again. I read the story and fell in love with all the characters, except for the mother. How dare she, the Duchess. Well everyone this is a jolly good book.
Great book by Lisa Kleypas, which is a part of her Wallflower series. Kept me engaged and was hard to put down! Loved Lillian and all her friends, and the way she was so outspoken and not intimidated by the hero.
4.5 Stars
When I started my re-read of this book I was was afraid I wouldn’t like it as much as the first book. I am not crazy about super stubborn characters. Headstrong and confident is one thing. But unnecessarily stubborn is another. Lillian borderlined that for me but ultimately, her stubbornness is what benefitted her in the end and …
Easily read in one sitting…a light hearted yet romantic story if two people who fall in love kicking and screaming. Likeable characters, witty storyline and a page turner. Quite enjoyable.
Some of my all time favorite scenes… Plus memorable characters. Laugh out loud fun and super sexy. Note the library scene with the plum in the bottle…
They don’t even like each other, but she has friends in this strange repressive country and one of them is married to a man he highly respects. She is a wild thing from the colonies whose father wants her to marry a peer and he is a peer who is expected to marry within his class. Lots of fireworks between them and a few surprising twists! I loved …
It Happened One Autumn was a good read but I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. I was really looking forward to Lillian’s book. I loved her brash, foul mouthed, outspoken american ways. I couldn’t wait for her to bring Westcliff to his knees. So I was a little disappointed that for half the book Westcliff fought his attraction to …
