Man vs. Ocean. A battle for love will make one fierce fighter learn to sink or swim. Cael “The Viking” Erickson: I wasn’t trying to find the girl of my dreams inside a campus coffee shop. In all honesty, I never thought I’d see her again. But I do, and she’s my sparring partner’s little sister. She only wants to be friends, and like an idiot, I agree, because it’s the only way I can get close to … get close to her. Neither of us is ready to be in a relationship. And she’s right, I have my own issues I’m sorting through.
Ocean Anders: I didn’t think there was a man like him left in the world. He’s fierce, loyal, and kind. He’s everything I want in a friend and everything I desire in a lover. Yet, I can’t be who he needs me to be. There are two sides to every coin. One side of me seeks the attention he’s willing to give, the other side reminds me of all my demons. But this Viking is willing to brave the storm to get to the heart of me.

I was granted an ARC of JK Rivers’ “It Happened on a Tuesday (#MeetCute Books)” via Booksprout; I found this book remarkably enjoyable. I’m gladly recommending it based upon its own merits. I’ll definitely be looking forward to more opportunities to read JK’s work in the future. All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given.
Until next time… Happy Reading!
Cael and Ocean makes this a poignant story of epic repercussions! Ocean was in an accident that changed her life and Cael was a foster child that lived with a family that showed no love and as a result he has his own issues. These two are destined to be together in spite of all the drama and emotional baggage thrown their way because through it all they endured the storm. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
JK Rivers’ new romance, It Happened on a Tuesday, is one of my recommended summer romance reads. (You should know that I’m reviewing an ARC from BookSprout, and this is a voluntary, independent, and uncompensated review.) A good summer read is one that is light, easily read, cleverly written and amusingly entertaining. A good romance has a likable hero/heroine, a good supporting cast, a hefty helping of romance/sexual tension, and usually, HEA at the end. Author Rivers gives us all that and more! I don’t do spoilers, but I’ll admit to being completely blind-sided and charmingly bemused by the crazy twist at the end.
This book surprised me, in a great way. I remember reading the blurb and premise for the book and wondering how the author would focus on the first meeting of the characters. This was beautifully done.
While this book pulled me in, it was not immediate. The start was not slow, but sorting out the characters’ names and nicknames took away from that hook, at the beginning, but I think it was necessary since many of the characters were fighters. The story is told in the duel pov of Ocean and Cael. It is easy to follow since the author begins the new pov with the character’s name. It was easy to want to know more about Ocean’s and Cael’s baggage. Cael’s was easier to guess, but it still helped me to see how it made him who he needed to be, for Ocean.
I enjoyed the characters and the mysteries surrounding them. There were a couple of small things that I really liked because they seem rare in stories. I liked that the main character was okay with her virginity (it was not paraded as a draw to catch a man, nor was she embarrassed), despite others around her who were active. I liked how Cael handled many of the situations thrown at him, showing depth. The written inner dialogue also helped me see the characters. The characters felt real, with real problems and real consequences for their actions. The supporting characters complimented the plot. I found myself connecting with Kizzie and even Timb. I appreciated the positive attitude towards math, though this is not the book’s focus, it was a small thing that caused me to smile, because it is rarely used that way. Usually, characters bash and loath it.
I still had a few questions at the end, not because it was a cliffhanger, but I became invested in the characters and wanted that epilogue with a 5 or 10 year update. I do think the author did well to not include this, despite my want.
The writing is smooth and flows nicely and was well worth the read. This was my first book from the author, but I will try other writings because I enjoyed this one. I usually struggle with genre classifications, but this book has an urban, new adult romance feel to it. I recommend this book.
