Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up – she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan – her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
With this bold and deeply personal novel, It Ends With Us is a heart-wrenching story and an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

Completely late to the party on this but I needed an emotional read and this author delivered exactly what is was I was needing! This story moved me in so many ways and has left me completely heartbroken. I fell head over in love with Ryle, I felt his pain, his torment between what he knew was wrong but couldn’t put it right. He was such a broken character. Lily was strong and whilst her decisions broke my heart they were completely the right one.
This is such a powerful story and could easily be anyone of us right now. I was completely lost in Ryle and Lily’s story. My head and heart have received emotion overload. Mission occomplished!
This might be my favorite Hoover book. Again, like Verity, it differed from her earlier swoony romantic love stories. This story is about drawing the line between love and physical pain. I could tell she wrote from experience. Lily’s warring emotions for Ryle felt authentic. I liked the way it ended as well — not too perfect, just right.

I fell in love with Ryle, and I feel betrayed by Colleen Hover for making me. Great read.
I am writing this while still crying over this story. I don’t want to give anything away, so this will be a little vague. I’m sorry, or your welcome. Let me start by saying that I LOVE Colleen Hoover! The slammed series: I have bought them and given them to so many people as gifts because that story made such an impact on me. It ends with us is so complex. It is basically two love stories. One, her first love, is being recounted in a journal made of letters to Ellen Degeneres, which I find hysterical. That story is so heart warming and heart breaking. It’s also the story of her at her current age with an amazing, beautiful neurosurgeon. Again, heart warming and heart breaking. Through this story she grows into a woman that begins to understand her childhood. Grows closer to her mother, realizing that things are not always what the seem. I’m so sorry, I want to go into detail, but you should be able to read this with out me spoiling it. This is a must read. I loved it. Read with a box of tissues.

No spoilers!! I read this book without reading any reviews – unusual for me. I read the blurb and it didn’t grab me. But, this book kept arriving in my emails from Amazon as a story I might like, and I took a chance on buying it. And it was so worth it! Colleen Hoover wrote an unforgettable story, full of painful truth and conflicting emotions, tenderness and tears. The story took me on an emotional roller coaster, through glued-to-my-seat rip-roaring fury to laughter, sadness and elation. Colleen tackles a tough issue with a deft hand, inspired by personal experience, portraying characters I fell in love with. Highly recommended.
This my second book by Ms. Hoover that I’ve read and it didn’t disappoint. I will say that there are “triggers” in the book so if you are not able to read about abuse this book may not be a good book for you to read. Now, the way Ms. Hoover weaved the past with the present of Lily (the main character) was absolutely wonderful. Plus, I actually didn’t know how it was going to end, and for a romance story, that’s kind of hard to do! (I know, I write them). Ms. Hoover, yet again, does an amazing job of describing everything so as you read it plays out like a movie. I simply cannot wait to read another book by Ms. Hoover!!
Deep and emotional. You feel so torn. Hoover has a way of making you feel what the heroine is feeling! An unfathomable story of doing what is best even if it tears you apart.
“We’ve all got a little bit of good AND evil in us.”

Naked truth…
This was my FIRST Colleen Hoover novel and boy, did I pick an emotional one!
This book B R O K E me. R I P P E D me from the inside out. It rendered me speechless with it’s powerful message. There was so much truth. So much pain. So much LIFE. So many lessons. So much LOVE. I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster ride of a lifetime! It was heart bursting and soul crushing all at the same time. Everything was perfect, except that ONE thing and that one thing B R O K E me. *tears* I would be swooning and all happy one minute and then literally scared to death to read the next part of the story because I knew deep down where it was going to go and that realization H U R T. S O. M U C H! The other shoe was going to drop and when it did…heart shattered. I was happy but yet very sad at the end of it all. It was all very bittersweet
“All humans make mistakes. What determines a person’s character aren’t the mistakes they make, it’s how we take those mistakes and turn them into a lesson rather then excuses.”
Every person that reads this book, WILL read it differently. They will experience it differently. For some, it may bring up personal painful memories. For others, it will not. But the fact remains, it WILL deliver a powerful message to EVERYONE that reads it. EVERYONE will F E E L something wile reading this. I guarantee it. It was a story about abuse (possible trigger warning). This was a story about knowing your limits. Knowing when to love yourself MORE. Colleen Hoover truly did THIS type of story, a story about abuse, justice. IT ENDS WITH US was such a beautiful tragic love story. One that I will NEVER forget.
Ryle was everything swoon-worthy.
Atlas was everything perfect.
I loved them both and I still do.
5 stars
ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I’VE EVER READ!
This will forever be a top read of mine. I agree with the review on the cover from Kami Garcia, “Every person with a heartbeat should read this book.”
I did not want to put this book down I had to know what was going to happen next & while the majority of the story is similar to that of Colleen’s Mother and her real life story I loved the added aspect of Atlas. His relationship with Lily helped make the story the amazing one that it is.
There is so much heartbreak & truth and I found myself crying happy tears by the end of the book.
It is a must read for everyone!
As always stunned by CH writing, but also a little surprised by the subject of her book. Actually it is probably a good thing she brings it up, because it isn’t a topic where people talk much about. When domestic violence starts, it’s often subtle and evolves in time. By the time the victims realize, it has taken big proportions and the embarrassment often too bad to talk about it. So although not everyone will understand the choices of the main character in this book, it’s a good thing they have thought about it because of this book. You’ll never know what you would do until you’re in that position…
Well done Colleen.
I did not know what to expect in this story. It was on sale and I knew I loved other books by Colleen Hoover and wanted to listen one. This story was so heartbreaking and so inspirational. I did not expect all the twists and turns and my favorite part was actually the authors note at the end from Colleen Hoover. I was in tears. This story is so so so worth it. I listened to it twice back to back. This is probably by far my favorite story from her at the moment. But I’m pretty sure I will say that about her next one too! They are all fantastic. This story is so much more than I expected and I’m so glad I got this one. Its something I’ve never seen in book form before and one that covers so much feelings.
love it sooo sad
I think this book is one to be read by all women and men whether single, dating, married, divorced and separated. The book is very informative and it also helps women who have been made to feel unworthy that they are worth more than everything. It ends with us inspires any woman to rise up and put an end to all domestic violence and harassment in marriage. ” It ends with us”
Thank you, Colleen Hoover, for this amazing book.
I finally read it!
This is one of those books that hurt so good to read. There’s a lot of mixed feelings in it. Some characters you will love, some you will hate and some you will love/hate until the very end.
It’s not an easy subject to read about, but it’s a real one and it’s not sugarcoated by any means. It’s what makes this story so real and hard to read. But it’s also so perfect! So beautiful in its ugliness.
Colleen Hoover can bring the big guns out anytime, I will always be ready for them with a smile on my face knowing I will love every bullet!
This is the first book I’ve read by Colleen Hoover, but it won’t be my last. The story sucks you in from the first appearance of 23-year-old Lily, whom we meet sitting on a ledge twelve stories above Boston about to meet the gorgeous neurosurgeon-in-training Ryle. But both Lily and Ryle have something dark in their pasts, and the novel’s plot turns on how the past informs the present. By turns sad, funny, poignant and ultimately, life-affirming, “It Ends With Us” will stay with me for a long, long time. Count me as yet another of Hoover’s many fans.
I think one of the hallmarks of a brilliant novel is its ability to create dynamic characters that leap from the page and get into your head. ‘It Ends with Us’ does just that. Hoover so effectively pulls you into the lives of the characters she’s created that you feel like you inhabit that space with them. The story flows and unfolds in such an organic and readable way, that I was able to read it all the way through in one sitting.
This book is filled with so many beautiful, heart-wrenching, terrifying, and poignant moments, your emotions will probably be on overload. (In the best/worst way possible.) In short, this story stays with you.
If you’re like me, you’ll find yourself examining the events and the choices made by the characters. You’ll feel the wistfulness of all the “what-ifs” that permeate the narrative. You’ll witness acts of cowardice and bravery, love and betrayal. You’ll realize that no one’s story is black and white, that life isn’t binary. You’ll feel the depth of the idea that, “We’re all just people who sometimes do bad things,” and the implications that idea has. And lastly, you’ll be bolstered by the unwavering love that a parent can have for their child, and the bravery that can blossom as a result.
This is the second book that I have read of Colleen Hoover’s and I was never disappointed. Her novels deal and resolve real life issues in today’s world that are more common than they should be. This book was wonderfully written and honestly I had no clue how it would end. Being posed with two choices one where your past lingers with it’s lessons and actions taken and another where mistakes have been made that are unforgivable. Which would you choose? With this question the author addressed problems and resolved them through the use of the main characters thoughts. Speaking up for yourself and choosing what’s best for you is so important as well as understanding where everything should stand in your life being within your limits. I’ve learned so much from reading this book and these life lessons are so important to any growing individual.
Thank you so much Colleen Hoover for everything you do and the life lessons that are present in every one of your books. You make me swoon and cry at the same time!
***possible spoiler ahead***
Excellent story, great writing, lots of heart. I’m not sure when I will read another one of Colleen’s books because it took so much of me emotionally to read this one. I loved that it’s written from a side of abuse no one seems to see. The victim is always thought of as weak when in fact it’s really not that simple. And the abuser is not always a monster. I hated that I fell in love with Ryle, and just like Lily I couldn’t get myself to hate him. Not completely. This ambivalent side of domestic abuse was masterfully dealt with by Colleen Hoover by placing the reader in a similar emotional position when it came to Ryle’s and Lily’s relationship. And thank you Ms. Hoover for giving me a happy ending. I would have been destroyed if that wasn’t the case.
