“According to legend, when the world was young, the goddess Issaura appeared among men. Those who treated her with kindness received the gift of the gods—the ability to transform into an animal form. This was a great honor but one that separated this race from other humans. Before Issaura departed the mortal realm, she promised to return if her people were ever at the point of destruction. “Now a …
“Now a threat is rising from a land across the mists of the ocean, a threat that will push this race to the brink of extinction. Responding to the call to war, seventeen-year-old Lluava heads off to find her destiny, one that will carve her name in history.”
The Kingdom of Elysia consists of two races: the dominant race of humans and the native race of Theriomorphs who can shift into animal form. Although law dictates equal treatment, they neither like nor trust each other. Now brutal and ruthless Raiders are approaching; there is only one chance to defeat them. An army must be raised and trained. An army where each human will be paired with a Theriomorph partner. An army that must fight as one to defeat their common enemy.
Women are not warriors. However, Lluava is not like other women – human or Theriomorph. Her animal form is a magnificent beast whose power and fury she must learn to control. Although Lluava endures intense physical training and strives to overcome the doubts of the male recruits, she faces an unexpected adversary in the commanding general who seeks to break both her spirit and her body.
At the paring ceremony, Lluava is humbled when presented with a unique and ancient weapon. Yet she becomes distraught and angry when her human partner is revealed. If they fail to trust each other, the consequences will be devastating. Death and destruction are on the horizon and time is running out.

It is a really good book and It is really interesting.
This book absolutely amazed me, it kept me turning the pages as fast as they could be read, even if sleep was pushed to the side.
Extremely fast paced with heaps of action, suspense and ongoing skirmishes you’re kept continually on the edge of your seat as you relate to what different characters are feeling and experiencing throughout this political process.
Humans have continually overruled the Theriomorhs in fact the author shows us the extent of the racist attitudes the humans continually extend causing ongoing unrest between the two. When a major threat appears that threatens both, you find everything is left in the past and they are able to join forces against this common foe.
Liuava is the character who is central within this plot, and with the superb writing skills of this amazing author it is so easy to become connected to her feelings and personality understanding how she suddenly finds herself playing a somewhat important role within the resistance and their ongoing fighting.
Due to her tenacious activities many people are convinced Liuava is a dependant of Issaura one of their major deities, she seems to always come out ahead, even white seems impossible
With many people who depend on her and rely on her thoughts Liuava finds herself involved with those who are heirs to the throne plus nurses caring for the wounded
This book is the introduction to ‘The Incarn Sagas a world full of political issues ongoing infighting and what seems like never-ending battles by the smaller powers to keep their independence and lifestyle. Full of adventure with strong characters who influence the direction and outcome of many intense situations that develop as we are drawn further into this suspense filled of hope and confusion.
Well written with wonderfully developed circumstances and characters you cannot he,put relate to. If you enjoy fantasy then I highly recommend you grab a copy of “Issauras Claw”
A good introduction to a young woman who is drafted to fight an enemy about to try to invade her country. She is one of the population who is a shape-shifter, and the story deals with the prejudice of humans towards Theriomorphs; her training and maturing as a soldier and her friendships with others in her group; and fighting the enemy. There are descriptions of battles and such but no more violent than those in Harry Potter. Written for the YA market, well done – if I were the right age I would definitely read the rest! I received a review copy and gladly leave this honest review to interest others in this book.
What a story. I just loved that it had a strong female lead character. I grabbed my place to be the first female to repair weapon systems on attack helicopters. I love finding stories where the female is a hard headed as I am. This book is an awesome read, I highly recommend.
Lluava is a headstrong seventeen-year-old girl. She is not a human, though. She is a theriomorph — a special race that looked like a human but could convert into an animal form. Although the law of Elysia does not divide the humans and theriomorphs, the animosity between these two races is evident on a daily basis. In order to avoid any mistreatment and to fit in with the humans, many theriomorphs — including Lluava’s mother — have adopted the humans’ lifestyle. Lluava, however, does not succumb to these changes. The lives of Lluava and others were moving at a steady pace before an order from the king turned their worlds upside down. In order to combat an army of raiders and to defend their land, each family of the kingdom – theriomorph or human – is required to send one member to the army. These people would be trained to stop the invasion of the raiders. Lluava’s family consists of her mother, younger brother, younger sister, and a grandfather leaving only Lluava as a suitable choice to be sent to the army. Lluava, whose animal form is a fearsome tigress, hasn’t even learned to properly change into her animal form, but now she must train to save the lives of her village.
