Peg Savage has contractually agreed to move to Key West, Florida. The smudged signatures on the damp cocktail napkin are irrefutable proof.“An adventure…” her husband Clark says. Peg can’t swim; she’s afraid of bridges (there are 42 of them); and she doesn’t want to leave her friends. However, after a bottle of Cabernet, a move from Chicago to the southernmost city in the United States seems like … States seems like the best decision ever.
But now Clark has taken a long term job in Cuba and she’s on her own.
Neither her dog Nipper, nor the ghosts in the attic, offer up any good advice. But how hard can it be living in paradise?
Peg dives into island life but the more effort she makes, the wider her wake of catastrophes. She is tortured by a paddle board, a giant poisonous toad, the local Conservation group, and the patron saint of hurricanes. Not to mention the persistent sweat rash under her left breast.
A tropical depression descends on the island – one that can’t be cured with medication. Peg must gather her strength if she has any hope of surviving the storm.

This was a quick funny read. It got a little out there with the haunts but still enjoyable.
It was a fun read, fast paced and funny.
I also liked the location—Key West in a hurricane.
The story was good. Not real fond of the bad language scattered throughout.
Read it in one sitting. Some things just too unbelievable to all happen to one person (and survive). However, did chuckle out loud a couple of times. No deep thought required; a fun escape.
I guess I’d say this is a light, bit of fluff kind of book without much substance. The setting was enjoyable and fun (I used to live in Key West), But the story line was rather lame.
Supposed to be funny but I found it absurd.
didn’t care for this book. Humor was missing the mark. Situations tried too hard to be funny and just weren’t. Main character was so ib
Poorly written and boring , juvenile story line.
Couldn’t bear to finish.
Anyone that is familiar with the Florida Keys and especially Key West will love this book.
I found the lead character to be impossibly helpless. It was just too annoying to read. I am not sure anyone in real life could be this incompetent.
As a Florida resident who loves the Keys, I was disappoint d by this stereotypical and unrealistic novel.
Read this book!Great look at Key West and its characters. FUN book, well written, easy reading.
I looked forward to reading this book which got a lot of five star reviews that said it was laugh our loud funny. And it was laugh out loud funny until about half way through the book when it became obvious the Peg, the main character, was an alcoholic or at the very least a binge drinker. Every time she got blotto drunk bad things would happen. What a surprise. I guess they were supposed to be funny, but I had stopped laughing. Drunken humor does not appeal to me. It’s kind of sad. It’s a fast, easy to read book and if you don’t mind the drunken parts you might like it.
Loved the ending!
I liked reading about K we y West. Her husband got just what he deserved.
Ok read
Laugh out loud look at starting a new life in a new place…..with a husband that keeps leaving you. Clark, the hubby, must have read a lot of sex books, everytime he needs his wife to say yes, off to bed they go.
Key West is seen through her eyes as a weirdly different place, full of threats like poisonous frogs and people living life a bit off, haunted homes, and etc.
Her relationship with Trudy rings true and is the best part. Trudy just says it like it is…..Clark, the husband, is a heel. They text message each other and everyone needs a friend like Trudy.
Meeting Lulu, the dog, means meeting Richard and forming a friendship. As flamboyant as Richard is, he is her steadying influence….along with her dog Nipper.
It’s a fun read but not the best and over the top. But when you need to laugh, it does the trick. I wish the author had extended the book a bit to show more of her life after Clark.
A Beach Read
Childish writing. I enjoy writing that “sounds like” the author is talking to me. Just a normal flow of dialog. When every third sentence sounds like it was labored over, carved, crafted to sound really funny or cute, I am not entertained or impressed. It is like amateur acting: over-acting. If you think this book is funny and/or cute, enjoy. Give me Diana Gabaldon, Ken Follet, Michael Crichton or Octavia Randolph.
